Rob

I once again hurt my back by carrying more weight than I knew I should.  It is not fun to be in pain :-(

Lord and behold...I have even been going to bed early these past couple of nights...for me "early" means before midnight!

Wanted to welcome Rob to the blog roll.  Rob just started his blog called Observations From On The Road   Here is a link to his site http://observations-on-the-road.blogspot.com/

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. This is advice that is probably too late. I used to be a medic in the USAF as well as working at a mail facility. I've also moved countless times and experience has taught me that you need to lift with your legs and not your back. What that means (and I had to have someone explain it to me a very long time ago) is to squat down while still on your feet (I know that is more difficult as we all get older and our knees feel the years of use...yep, that's me raising my hand). Keep your back as straight as you can and lift using your leg muscles. If you can't do it that way then you really are lifting more than you should. Next time, lighten the load. I hope you feel better.

  2. Thank you for the advice Charlton.

I have a bad back from years of being "self-sufficient" and not asking for help or hiring someone to do it for me.

Even if I do not carry much...my limit is two gallons (one on each arm to balance myself) it does not take much to aggravate it. I also need to rest between all the lifting.

Since I happen to be a procrastinator, I usually wind up getting myself in a bind and waiting till the last possible minute to do things and thus can not take advantage of perhaps pacing the project.

That is why I take a long time to pack for Terlingua and even longer to pack to come back home.
