Library / Hotel Reviews / Back Room

Went to the library yesterday to do some research and to be able to print the results since as previously mentioned the only computer that I am able to print from I can not connect to the Internet after the idiot Time Warner Cable guy did something to it.

I do not know why I bothered as the local library has everything disabled.  Was trying to look up hotels and print out rates to no avail.  Decided I would read some blogs instead but since due to my CRS, I can only remember my blog name and Tffnguy's...googled his as mine does not have a blog roll.  You guessed it...the library has disabled links on blogs as well.  Turned off the machine with still 15 minutes left on the 30 minutes they allow per day. If I have to write everything down long hand...might as well do it from the comfort of my own home and without time limits.

Was trying to recall the last time I stayed in a hotel and it has been ages.  When did they get so expensive?  Darn, all I want is a regular room, not a suite :-(

Must admit I was a little taken back at some of the hotel  reviews especially considering some of these are supposed to be "good ones"...so much for that!  I think I will wait until I get to San Angelo locate the doctor's office and then find a hotel.  I am leaning more toward a motel though.

Today I had to tackle my vehicle's trunk.  Remember I took my Kodiak tent down a couple of months back?  Well I had no place to put the stuff I had in there so my trunk and mother's mini van were the recipients.

Had to clean out the shed/bathroom/tool room/catch all room we have in the back and make it all fit.  Took me a while but I was able to pull it off.  As you know I do not drink coffee very often but I needed something to get me going.  Recalled I still had a Mexican Coca-Cola and decided to drink it.  Would like to say I noticed a difference since it is made with real sugar...but I didn't, oh well!

Since I do not know how long we will be gone I have been watering the trees and plants both in the morning and evening to give them a fighting chance with this terrible heat wave we are experiencing.  It will be the survival of the fittest...if it was up to me I would hire a bulldozer and get rid of everything but the shade trees, Esperanza's and bougainvilleas.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. In Austin, some of the hospitals have places near them for the families at just a pittance. Maybe ask the hospital.
Give those trees a long soaking and it will last 2-3 weeks for sure. I haven't watered mine yet, this year. lol, Haven't been able to, but luckily we've had rain.

    1. Unfortunately that is not the case in San Angelo.

  2. I only purchase Mexican coke in those tall thin glass bottles and it sure does taste better. Never saw any in a bottle like you show in the picture. It even has a screw on cap where as the ones I buy you have to use a bottle opener.

    I would consider a motel.

    1. I looked for the glass bottles in Ciudad Acuña but all they had was plastic bottles. I am beginning to wonder if the glass bottles are for importation to the U.S.

Yep - I didn't even know they came in a plastic one. I don't drink sodas anymore, but the Mexican Cokes in a glass bottle are definitely the way to go.

I suspect if you were to call Time Warner (and wait for an hour on hold) one of their techs could walk you through the problem with your connection. Who knows, maybe the guy replaced your modem and the WEP key changed. Could be something that easy.

    1. Next time I am in Acuña I am going to inquire why they do not have the glass bottles like they do in the States.

I guess I could call TWC but I dread getting people in India whom accents I can not understand.

  5. If you thought the hotel prices were a little steep then I doubt that you will be staying at the Copper Top Light House B&B. However, I did see that you can get $10 taken off the rate is you decline their breakfast.
I can not afford those prices and from what you have written I doubt that you can. Good luck finding an decent, affordable motel.

  7. Love the Mexican cokes in the bottles DD is talking about. They sure are good with a little whiskey and ice added.

  8. I went to Odessa and drove past the hospital parking lot and it looked like a RV park. So many people stay in the parking lot to save a buck or two.

    1. I do not blame them specially with the hotel rate spikes with the recent oil activity in Midland/Odessa.

  9. Motel 6
    311 N Bryant Blvd, San Angelo, TX - (325) 658-8061

This is the cheapest place but the oil boom is on so you should get reservations early.

    1. This is where I stayed. Went without reservations and managed to get the only available downstairs room in the place.

  10. Frann, I was also going to say that I hope Ms. B didn't go without reservations. Room rates in San Angelo are through the roof to accommodate all the oil field workers for the Cline Shale oil play. The laws of supply & demand are definitely in effect out there.

Someone told me last month that people in Odessa (if I heard her right) were renting spare rooms in their houses for $100/nt because of the uptick in oil field activity out there too. Sounds like the 1849 Gold Rush.

Best of luck with your Mom, Ms. B! Sounds like she's in very good hands, especially with you working as her advocate.

    1. Leilani, I heard that too about people renting their spare rooms for $100 a night...think I heard it on the news not too long ago.

Thanks for your kind words :)

  12. The esperanza is probably one of my favorites and since it is a native far west Texan, it can withstand on little water. I thought I had a green thumb but someone forgot to tell me the color changed because I killed the last bougainvilleas that I had. Oh well. I have stayed at Super 8 in Carlsbad and Van Horn and both were nice. Try checking them out.
