The Brinkley Mansion

If someone put Del Rio, Texas on the map it was Dr. John R. Brinkley and his questionable "goat gland" transplants to cure male impotence.  He also became the owner of the most powerful radio station in the world XER-AM who broadcasted from then Villa Acuña now known as Ciudad Acuña across the border from Del Rio, Texas.

He had quite a checkered past before his arrival here but the locals who are still alive remember his home and the music and light shows fondly.  I do not know how to make a clicky but here is a link to his biography if you care to read it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_R._Brinkley

Located in historic south Del Rio this house always has tourists photographing it, though it is no longer owned by the Brinkley family.

Though he made millions, he died penniless at the rip old age of 56.

I will try a separate picture of each Texas marker.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  2. Yes, XERF-AM was the home of Wolfman Jack from 1963 to 1971 a station whose high-powered 'border blaster' signal could be picked up across much of the United States.

    1. I can't remember when or why it went from XER to XERF.

I do recall listening to Wolfman Jack late at night but in 1974-75 when I was at Sul Ross State University...so I do not know if he was at another border blaster station by then.

    2. He moved to LA in 1971 but still did the same Wolfman Jack 'stuff" and may have been syndicated through other stations.
