He had quite a checkered past before his arrival here but the locals who are still alive remember his home and the music and light shows fondly. I do not know how to make a clicky but here is a link to his biography if you care to read it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_R._Brinkley
Located in historic south Del Rio this house always has tourists photographing it, though it is no longer owned by the Brinkley family.
Though he made millions, he died penniless at the rip old age of 56.
I will try a separate picture of each Texas marker.
The Brinkley Mansion
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
And here I thought that was your Mom's house.
ReplyDeleteDon't I wish!
DeleteYes, XERF-AM was the home of Wolfman Jack from 1963 to 1971 a station whose high-powered 'border blaster' signal could be picked up across much of the United States.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember when or why it went from XER to XERF.
DeleteI do recall listening to Wolfman Jack late at night but in 1974-75 when I was at Sul Ross State University...so I do not know if he was at another border blaster station by then.
He moved to LA in 1971 but still did the same Wolfman Jack 'stuff" and may have been syndicated through other stations.
DeleteYou did pretty good on the clicky thing, any words after the "HTTP or WWW" will most likely send you some well on here....Good pictures
ReplyDeleteWhen did you drop the Capt? Glad you enjoyed the pictures.
DeleteFor anyone who cares to visit, the Brinkley mansion is located at 512 Qualia Dr, Del Rio, TX.
