Friday in Terlingua

Post for Friday, November 1, 2013 - Terlingua, Texas.

Prior to arriving I had slept 2 hours on Tuesday and 4 on Wednesday...I was running on fumes.  I do not drink coffee very often but on long trips it is a must.  As usual I was a jittery mess when I arrived because of it.  I had high hopes of sleeping through the night but I was wide awake by 4:30 a.m.

Sunrise in Terlingua....

As soon as the sun was up I took to the task of setting up my camp.  I really and truly considered not setting up the tent only the shower shelter.  Why oh why do I ignore my gut feelings?  Now I am getting ahead of myself...you will have to wait to a future post.

I usually do not bring ice. Instead I freeze water bottles so I do not have to deal with ice melt and then I can use the water for other purposes. Of course sooner or later I will have to purchase some.  A 20 pound bag goes for $5.00.  Early in the week the ice truck comes around but by Friday you have to go buy it at the main pavilion or the Krazy Flats Saloon.

After I finished setting up camp I heard a helicopter and thought that perhaps it was one of the news channels from the Midland/Odessa area that come to cover the event. Later found out that it was a medical chopper...someone had had an accident.

While my shower water heated up in my milk jugs, I decided to go for a ride to Krazy Flats.  What I forgot was that my windshield was dirty so a lot of the pictures I took are not print worthy :-(

I took a lot of pictures and I obviously can not fit them all into one post.   If you are new to my blog, I am "computer challenged"...to compensate for this I try to change my header picture every day and display a new photo unless I do not have access to the internet.

I think this is an accident waiting to happen...but oh well, you do a lot of dumb things when you are young!!!

Even though I have never been to Burningman in the Nevada desert...I could not help but picture all the naked people that run after the water truck hoping to get a free bath :D

From my camp trying to zoom in to what is going on at Krazy Flats.

In the evening there is nothing better than enjoying the company of your friends around a nice campfire along with a cold adult beverage.

Stay tuned for more stories from the Chihuahuan desert and pictures to back them up.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

    1. If you want to attend the cook-off you really have to learn to overlook the dust or you are not going to be a happy camper. It just goes with the territory.
