The Health Fair that wasn't

Yesterday when I went to the P.O. Box noticed a lot of purple flyer's.  Curiosity got the best of me and was pleasantly surprised that a Health Fair was going to be held at the County facilities close to mother's house. We do not  have many and when we do they are usually held in town (we live in the county) and I end up finding out about them after the fact.

It was going to be held this morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. which is odd in and of itself since it is a weekday and most people are at work.  Mornings do not work for me as I have to help mother get dressed and serve her breakfast, wash dishes, etc. etc. but I made it at 10:30 a.m. only to find that most booths were gone because very few people showed up.

I was hoping to have them check my cholesterol to see if these pills the doctor prescribed are really working. The main thing though was to have them check my glucose level which I am really trying hard to lower as I do not want to become a diabetic.  Guess I will just have to wonder for a little longer or until I have time to go to Mexico for blood work.

We got a reprieve today and only reached 85 degrees (29 Celsius).

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. That is such a shame the Fair pulled up stakes early. Can you use one of those little devices that you stick your finger with and get your blood sugar level? My daughter uses one because she has type 1 diabetes and I don't know how much they cost - she gets hers through her health program. Maybe you could get one in Mexico?

    1. Gypsy I have one...the problem is that I am a "coward" and can not bring myself to use the lancet on my finger :-(

  2. Don't you just hate it when you get ready and go someplace and it isn't open or isn't there? Bummer!

    1. I sure do Dizzy, especially when they pass out flyers and go to the trouble of driving to Del Rio. I think they should have stayed for the 3 hours they committed themselves to.

Several people came in after I did, mostly senior citizens and they were disappointed as well.
