Derksen Buildings Lot - May 2014

I sure do miss the Derksen Buildings lot in Del Rio, that is where I fell in love with the Solar Cabin, in case you missed that post here it is http://terlinguadreams.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-solar-cabin.html

The closest one to me is in Uvalde, Texas.  Last week that I took mother to her doctor's appointment I just had to stop when I saw they had new inventory.

This is the largest cabin that I have seen in any of their lots, it is 12 x 36 which is more than enough room for me and sells for $9,071.35 .

They had a lofted cabin in a smaller size than they usually carry. This cabin is also ideal as it makes use of wasted space and has quite a few windows.  It is 12 x 34  and sells for $10,126.79 .

While some people choose to use the loft as a
bedroom, I would much rather use it for storage.

They had an used cabin that had been returned to their lot and it looked like it had been wired for electricity.  However, who in the world would want a cabin this small to have two doors?

They had a shed but I kind of have my heart set on a loft shed...again so I can make use of wasted space.

This other shed was locked so do not know what it sells for.

I have no personal connection to Derksen buildings or its owners.  I just document it on my blog for when I finally make the biggest move in my life.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. I like the 'rent to own' feature with the price right up front like that. It gives all of us dreamers something to dream about...
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I like that feature as well Rob. Love to share stuff with my readers in particular if it involves my ultimate dream...a place to live in Terlingua.

  3. If you are planning on using it for anything besides storage, like staying in it, it will need insulated for sure. Then you may want to cover the insulation with paneling. Your tent is cheaper (grin).

  4. Have you ever come across a newsletter about "Tiny Homes"? I follow it and love some of the way individuals design and build their own - some more elaborate than others. If I were a few years younger I would jump on the idea. Two doors is good in case of fire or any emergency when you can't get out by one door, then you have another way to exit.

    1. I have never come across the Tiny Homes newsletter but I have seen a lot of tiny home videos on YouTube. However, with my bad back and lack of building skills there is no way I could build my own. At least for me an already built one makes more sense.

  5. Ron about always has some repos down here and you can get some good deals on those. Some have even been wired and insulated. BTW the land taxes just went up a LOT down here from what I hear. I haven't gotten my assessment yet though so don't know how much higher mine will be.

    1. A repo that has been pre-wired and insulated would work for me.

It was only a matter of time before taxes would go up with all the people that are moving down there and setting up their homesteads. Would be interested to know by how much they went up. Will be checking your blog.

    1. Hi Larry Tabone, yes in fact you can order one already finished out but I think I can have that done cheaper if I hire someone to do it.

I spoke to the Terlingua Derksen dealer two years ago, I believe his name is Ron Morh (I know it is not Moore but it is spelled differently). However, I lost his card or I would give him a proper plug. He is a very nice gentlemen.

      Thanks for commenting.
