Freaked out!

You might recall two years ago around this same time period I saw a big fast moving "worm" in the back bathroom/shed/storage room and almost dropped dead from fright.  Then once again in October 7, 2012 saw another large worm that turned out to be a centipede in the kitchen :-(

Yesterday evening I was headed to the kitchen when I caught a glimpse of a black thing (about 10 inches long) in the hall making its way towards me.  I froze on my tracks and could not bring myself to even scream...something rare since my first reaction has always been to scream.

Thank goodness I soon realized it was not a snake but a very fat black fast moving centipede.  I had my new white tennis shoes and hesitated but I stomped it once...though it freaked me out that its shell was hard. I ran to the living room to warn mother as it slithered into the dining room and went behind some of my boxes not to be seen again.

Is this some kind of a curse?  I have no idea if it came out of my bedroom, my mother's room or the bathroom.  All I could do was throw a couple of moth balls behind my boxes and plastic totes. Got online to see how to get rid of it but there really is no good way except per a YouTube video to round it up and throw it in some boiling water...yeah like that is going happen!

The worst part is that I did not see any centipedes that even resembled the one I saw.  Mostly they were small and almost clear colored.  Read where they are huge in Hawaii and a backpacker rolled over unto one while sleeping and had to be airlifted to a hospital.  As you can imagine I did not get a wink of sleep as though I wasn't already sleep deprived.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams as I have centipede nightmares :(

  1. The ones I saw in Hawaii were all red & I only saw 4 in all my years there.

    1. They did not mention what color they were...only that they are quite big in the island and their sting was painful.

Don't know what would be worst to see a red one or a black one like the one at mom's :-(

  2. I can't imagine what I would do if I saw something like that. I hope it leaves your house and leaves you alone.

    1. Gypsy, I have this fear of creepy crawling things. I guess I should look on the positive side and be grateful that it wasn't a snake.

I too hope it goes back to wherever it came from and I never see it again. I am more concerned about mother as she uses a walker and can't walk very fast.

  3. You might try those glue traps. We have a problem with scorpions, spiders, etc and they seem to work really well. I always keep one or two under the bed, couches and anywhere else I can place one. Good luck!

    1. Unfortunately due to mother's allergies we can not have an inside cat but it is also a good idea.

  6. Was it black with an almost red head and legs?
They are common in Texas, and yes they are hard to kill.Best way I have seen to disable them is a shovel behind the head.

    1. No Suerte, its head and legs where also black. If I saw it outside I would probably use a shovel but inside it took me by surprise and I didn't even have a broom handy!
