Cordless telephone mailing mystery

We had an overcast, windy and should I say rainy (?) day...well perhaps not rainy...but officially we received .02 of an inch.  It only reached 86 degrees / 30 Celsius and that in and of itself is unheard of during July...at least for this part of the state.

I really need help organizing all my stuff.  To that end I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos but so far have not taken any action.

If you are an NBA fan, like I happen to be, the big news today was that Lebron James is headed back to Cleveland.  Must say that I did not expect that but one can't blame the man for wanting to go back home to try to bring a championship title to his home state.

I tried to order two cordless telephones from Target and when I got ready to check-out a message appeared that Texas does not allow phones to be sent in the mail...WTH?  Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Organizing stuff?
They sell those 10gal Rubbermaid tubs, when you put 'stuff' in them it's hard to put too much stuff ... so you can still move them.
They stack well & you can get a magic marker to write on them so you have a hope of pretending you're organized. You might want to put masking tape on the end & write on that...
You end up with all that 'stuff' you don't use but it's stacked & marked so if you ever really wanted it again you might find it. Plus you could say to yourself that you were "organized"!

    1. Lol, Rob...actually what you describe is my current method of organization and it is not working for me.

Instead of 10 gallon plastic tubs mine are the huge ones that I brought back when I still did not have back problems...so moving them or even getting to a particular one is an issue now.

  2. The issue with Target not mailing a cordless telephone to you may be because of the lithium batteries in the phone. They may(?) be a Class 9 hazardous material under Postal Regulations. The state of Texas has nothing to do with it.

    1. Was it lithium batteries in the cargo section of that plane that went down a few months back in the southern Indian ocean? They are very flammable, and I can see why the post office wouldn't want to deal with them. But you can get phones in the mail elsewhere I believe - maybe they are delivered by UPS or another carrier.

    2. Ed in Target's check out page it clearly said Texas. Maybe Texas has some regulations in place that other states do not currently have?

    3. Gypsy I know that my friends are always replacing their cellular telephones and they get them in the mail though I have no idea if it is by the postal service or another carrier.

Figured a regular cordless landline phone would not have issues but then again I have no idea if the batteries it uses are lithium or not.

  3. I bought a TracPhone a couple of years ago and had no trouble having it sent to Texas.

    1. TracFones are celullar though...my friends, like yourself have not had issues getting them shipped to Texas either.

I am beginning to think it might be the batteries that are the problem.

  4. From the PO--you can mail a battery in a phone, just not one out of the phone. I know this for a fact.

Maybe terrorists order cell phones. But, when you say cordless, I think you mean a home phone that has no cord. Do those have lithium batteries?

    1. Hi Linda!

Yes, what I meant were cordless landline home phones. My mother's old cordless phone is on its last legs and I have not been able to find a replacement battery for it.

Her telephone uses a nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery but I have no idea what the replacement telephones I was trying to buy use for a battery.

      Thanks for commenting.

  5. I went to Target online and selected a Cordless phone at random and then went through the Checkout process. Entered a dummy street address in Del Rio, TX and received a prompt for my Credit Card information. I then changed the street address to a P O Box and got the restricted delivery message. Changed the address to Pahrump, NV leaving the same PO Box information and got the same restricted delivery message.

It is not a Texas issue and it is not a battery issue is is a PO Box address that Target does not like and where they will not deliver. There are other companies that will not deliver to a P O Box address; not sure why but that is your problem.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to go to all that trouble Ed. While I agree that it has everything to do with a P.O. Box address versus a regular street address in my check out screen which I wish I knew how to capture, it still tells me the following:

"Restricted item, this item can't be delivered to Texas."

I think I need to send Target an e-mail and request that they re-phrase it to say "it can not be mailed to a P O Box address".

  6. Ed & Ms. B: So I gather it's not a battery issue or a P.O.Box issue separately, but a battery plus PO Box issue? I recently had an extra lithium battery pack for my Hoover upright & handheld vacuums sent by WalMart to my street address in TX with no problems. Is it for anti-terrorism purposes they've imposed the restriction because want to track exactly where & to whom those things go?

Regardless, Belinda's right. Target needs to be more specific about why they won't send it to her if they want to avoid confusing consumers. They could miss out on sales to customers who'd qualify for delivery but who might erroneously assume since others have had problems that they can't buy them from Target either.

    1. Hi Leilani!

Yep you nailed it...both a battery as well as a P O Box issue. I am sure they have their reasons and I have not tried it with other vendors but as many customers as Target has lost since they were hacked during the holidays you would think they would not want to alienate their remaining customers.

I happen to love shopping at Target and the cordless telephone I wanted is only available online.

      Good seeing you :)
