Mothers and Daughters

October is an awful busy month for me, not just because of all the preparations for my trip to the cook-off.  We have several events that we need to attend that will require I wear a dress my mother would like for me to wear a dress to.

Tired of her nagging gentle persuasion I went to the store today.  When I worked I wore dresses and suits but now I don't really like to dress up...that is in a far away chapter of my life.  I love dressing casual or in my scrubs...a look my mother does not care for.  How many women my age still dress like their mother's want them to?  The things I have to do to keep the peace :(

It's official dad's old car is flooded.  Looked at some YouTube videos on how to solve the problem...forget it...I will call the mechanic!

There are a couple of things I would like to buy but before investing in them I have been doing a little research and reading reviews.  I do not know how much credence others place on reviews but they carry a lot of weight when I make my final decision...I have therefore nixed two products.

Yesterday when I was walking over to Walter's I finally saw some Monarch butterflies.  Each year we see less and less of them.  Watched a documentary not too long ago where they blame a well known weed and grass killer for getting rid of their food source.

At first I thought I was confusing them with an orange flower that is growing inside this bush. There were lots of Monarchs but they are not very visible in this picture.

Gasoline prices have been stable this week. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

    1. SB - I seldom post pictures of myself, much less in a dress. The dress and heels are for a Del Rio event.

I would have to question my sanity if I chose to wear a dress at the cook-off unless it was part of a Halloween costume :D

  2. I dressedup for work my entire career and when I retired it became jeans, sweats, and the sloppy look. My mother, may she rest in peace, would say things like "Don't you have anything better to wear?" I dressed up for an occasion but in my daily life I wanted to be comfortable and I'm still that way. I've tried my best to never be critical of my daughter & granddaughters' choices. I understand what you are talking about.

  3. A "flooded" engine is usually a short time problem, too much gas to get it started. Usually fixed by hold the gas pedal all the way down & cranking the engine, the 'too much' fuel situation will pass & the engine will start.
This is generally a carburetor problem, cars with fuel injection don't need to have the gas pedal touched to start.
If it's always flooded there is a probably a carburetor problem.

    1. I figured it would also start after a day or two...but no luck. It turns, it sounds like it wants to start but nothing. Yesterday it sounded like the battery was about to go dead.

Perhaps it is a carburetor problem, if that is the case then it is definitively out of my league.

  4. Dress-up life is long gone from my life. Heels I loved and which caused damaged feet. To me, they were a required part of getting gussied up 'to the nines'. Ah, old age stinks!

    1. Yep, those heels definitively caused damage :(

Back then it was all about looking good and heels certainly finished off an outfit.

  5. Part of my comment didn't post. I'm wondering about your mom while you go to the cook-off. Will she be safe?

    1. Either my aunt (her sister) or my uncle (her baby brother) or both come and stay with her while I go frolic in the desert.

    1. Welcome to the blog Fun at Amistad.

Glad to hear that at least one other person is going to the cook-off. Are you a Terlingua virgin?

Would love to meet up with you in Terlingua as well. Since you know what my camp looks like, you wont have any problems finding me.
