Taxes / E-banking

After not going anywhere in nine days, I have gone to town three days in a row.  Last night I never even went to bed.  Have been busy paying my Harris County property taxes.  It just chaffs my derriere to have to pay MUD taxes (municipal utility district) on top of the already high water and sewer rates I pay, even though I have used zero gallons in the past 21 months.

Seems everyone has or is coming down with the flu.  After being on my death bed last year I have been taking real good care of myself.  My uncle who religiously gets his annual flu shot came down with it as well.  He was supposed to spend Christmas as well as New Year's with us but it was not in the cards.

Was wondering how many people in cyberspace do e-banking?  I guess I am just used to getting a statement and being able to file it in case I ever need it in the future.  Being realistic though how many times have I had to refer to a bank statement months or years later?

I could of saved me a trip into town yesterday by being able to access my account online.  However, if I sign up, I would forfeit my paper statement.  Will have to think about it.

I do not know what was wrong with my camera today.  At first I thought my batteries were low but now I think it might be on its last legs.  Anyway, I was not able to get you a picture of today's gasoline prices but they are unchanged from Monday.

The thing that stood out was the difference in price when it came to diesel.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

MsB, unless your bank is taking paperless to the extreme, you should be able to download a copy of your statement so you may print it out, import it to a spreadsheet or to Quicken, as you please. At least my little Podunk bank lets me do that plus a whole lot more. I suggest you research the matter further, next time you are in a branch.

    Happy New Year!

    1. Yesterday I spoke to one of the bank employees regarding this. I asked him how many months statements I could access. His replied was "he thought" it was three months. Definitively will talk to another person when I go back to my branch or call the headquarters.

      Thanks for stopping by Wil.

  2. Feliz Ano Nuevo, SPURSsister!
Our SPURS have been sputtering as of late - so much the Spurs Corner went into hibernation! That's OK.
I just signed up for e-banking and starting 2015 will not receive statements any longer. My main issue is my USPS mail service - I receive my neighbor's mail and don't want them receiving my sensitive documents. I always make sure they get the mis-deliveries but can't count on them reciprocating. And Wil is correct about getting hard copies should you need them.
Happy, healthy and prosperous 2015 to you and yours!

    1. Feliz Ano Nuevo to you to SPURSbrother!

Don't worry...Spurs Corner will soon be resurrected. I could not believe the almost miraculous shot Duncan made to send it into overtime tonight!

Your neighbors sound like my Houston ones...I had to get a locking mail box!

I may just start off 2015 with e-statements like yourself.

Here is wishing you and yours the very best for this coming new year!

  3. I have (download) my bank statements in my computer as .pfd documents, no paper anymore.
Not that that is any safer then my last backup but I have rarely needed to go back & look something up.

    Happy New Year to you!

    1. That is what I am afraid of Rob...my computer will crash, get stolen or I will have forgotten to back it up and then all my bank statements will be lost.

Happy New Year to you as well!

  4. I have been totally electronic for banking since early 2007. My "bank" is in Washington State. I do not even keep electronic copies of statements. the bank does that and I can reference them online if they are ever needed.

  5. I have not received a paper bank statement since sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Prior to that I did not have my checks returned to me starting sometime in the late 1970s.
Have been totally e-banking with Ally Bank since going on the road in 2009. Ally Bank is an e-bank, as I understand e-banking, since they do not have any sticks-n-bricks branches. What you have described as e-banking is what I refer to as paperless bank statements from a bank that does have physical locations.

    1. Wow, you go way back with paperless bank statements and now with a total e-bank.

      Thanks for your input.

  6. My banking has been done since the late 1950's with the Federal Credit Union in Cincinnati. I have been accessing my account for years via computer - I check my account at least every other day to see the activity and keep track of my balance. I can see all accounts on one page - checking, savings, credit card, etc. I can access a statement for any month for years back, so I finally decided to quit getting the paper statements. I still get the credit card statement through the mail, but it's because I've been too lazy to cancel it.

The state of the flu is scary! Take good care of yourself and your Mother.

    1. Wow Gypsy, you are a long time customer of your Credit Union. They must be doing something right to have kept you happy all these years.

As I read each comment I am leaning more and more toward going with e-statements.

Hope you as well as your family are feeling better after your bout with the flu.

  7. I don't use a bank or credit union. I deal only in cash. No plastic cards or credit for me. And I also have money buried. If I don't ever work another day in my life, that's okay, I know I have enough money buried that I'll always have enough to eat and a good roof over my head. Dam all the other bullshit. HEE-HAW

    1. Hi RedEyeMule!

Unfortunately in my current circumstances I could not forgo the services of a bank or credit union. Houston is a little too far away to be able to drive up there to keep up with my bills and credit obligations.

I hope no one who knows you personally is aware that you bury your cash!

Take care and thanks for stopping by.
