Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals

As I type this it is already 98 degrees and expected to reach 100 degrees today 38 Celsius. Forecast for the coming days not much better...98 to 100 degrees.

I finally broke down and bought another "Sally Hoe". The one I have...I forgot last time I was in Houston.  Even though we were not as fortunate in the rain department as some other nearby cities, the little that fell has made the weeds grow.  I need to tackle them while I still can...it just wont be today!

Anyone watch the Pacers vs Heat game last night?  My goodness what is wrong with Lance Stephenson?  Did he really think his shenanigans were going to rattle Lebron James?  Well, the Pacers were sent home last night.

I am anxiously awaiting Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals tonight between my Spurs and OKC and I just know we are going to clinch it tonight...or at least I hope so.

GO SPURS GO!!!!

Went on a killing rampage

Many area cities and nearby towns got a lot of rain...whereas officially in the past seven days Del Rio only received .94 of an inch in precipitation and 1.16 for the month of May.

Uvalde, Texas in some areas got as much as 9 inches and San Angelo 3 to 5 inches.  So glad we did not have a doctor's appointment there this week.

Have not been able to sleep in a couple of days...that is until last night, got 13 and a half hours of sleep and would have slept longer but I had a lot of things to do before the Spurs game tonight.

This afternoon I went on a killing rampage...an ANT killing rampage...since the recent rains new mounds have popped up EVERYWHERE !!!  I used up all the poison I had and still did not get to even half of them.

Yesterday I sat down to watch the Pacers vs Heat series but turned it off thinking the Pacers were going to lose.  What a surprise to see they won, hope as much for the Spurs tonight.

If the Spurs do not win tonight at home, I do not hold out much hope for them...it will be Deja Vu 2012.  While we lost Game 4...I have to be proud of the second string players that almost got it to within reach.  Just have something to say...did we not acquire Matt Bonner for his three point shooting?  Then why was he passing that ball like it was a hot potato?  Why did he not even attempt a shot?

Yesterday I caved in and got a gasoline credit card from HEB.  What I like about a card from here is that they let you charge it to your credit card whereas at Stripes you have to pay cash for it.  Regular gasoline was selling for $3.38 with my .11 cent discount card I got it for $3.27 a gallon.

Well folks I have to go watch my Spurs and cheer them on.  GO SPURS GO!!!

Blog Follower List

Has anyone else been having problems with their Blog Follower list?  Mine would not even show up so I had no idea who had made a new post unless I went to another blog and clicked on a particular blog I wanted to read.

Instead of a blogger list it gave me new blogger items that have been added...my goodness, I barely know how to use what I currently have let along have to deal with more stuff.  The one thing I have always wanted out of blogger is Smiley Faces or any kind of faces...guess I will have to keep waiting for that.

Not much on the home front.  I basically did nothing except wash dishes and read some snail mail as well as e-mails.  Oh yeah, sat down to watch the afternoon news and promptly fell asleep for two hours.  Guess a nap does not hurt anyone.

For those readers that live in Texas and are thinking of replacing an appliance there is a Texas Tax holiday this weekend if you replace your old items with an Energy Star certified product. This will be in effect Saturday May 24th thru Monday May 26th.

As much as I hate to go to the laundromat, I would love to replace my mother's washing machine but she refuses and wants to have one of her "people" come fix it :-(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Civic Duty

As I type this it is raining. It has been so long since I actually heard rain falling on the roof. In this area of Texas, we need it badly.  When we were headed north on 277 on our way to San Angelo the other day, I was sadden to see an almost dry lake bed in the area where fellow blogger OFM Barney used to fish.

In Val Verde County we have two hotly contested run-off elections and since my leg was not bothering me too badly, decided to drive down to the County Courthouse and cast an early vote.

There were two other primary run-off elections statewide and lord and behold could not believe Kinky Friedman garnered enough votes for a run off !  OK...I hate to talk about politics especially in a blog...but I just had to mention that.

Dizzy Dick commented that Kinky took in and fed animals. You all know how I feel about abandoned, abused and underfed animals.  If you care to read about his rescue organization here is a link http://utopiarescue.com/

It was hot and humid (yes, it gets humid in the desert sometimes) it got to 91 degrees today 32.7 Celsius.  Stopped at the new Stripes to see if the coffee smoothie machine had been fixed and it had.

Went to buy a couple of items at HEB and as I was placing them in my car I heard a man's voice from behind saying " you are Belinda, right?"  I did not recognize the voice and for a split second thought it might be someone that recognized dad's car from the blog postings...and here I did not have a lick of make-up on :-(

Lucky for me, it was only a friend of mother's!  The gasoline gas cards are back again at HEB, I believe they are giving an .11 cent discount whereas Stripes gives you .03 cents off.  I really hate having to buy these cards but if I can save .11 cents per gallon it might be worth it with all these out-of-town trips we are going to be taking.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

May 2014 trip to San Angelo, Texas.

Mother has had two vertebroplasties in the past nine months and the pain still lingers.  Mostly because of her osteoporosis's each time her spinal column is injected with "cement" it is causing a break fracture in the lower vertebrate.

Called to schedule an appointment for her and was told we would have to go to San Angelo as they no longer come to Del Rio. The reason we opted for a neurosurgeon from San Angelo versus one from San Antonio, Texas was because at the time the clinic my mother goes to was affiliated with Shannon Medical Centers of San Angelo.  Her primary physician knew this doctor personally but the clincher was that apart from the first visit or if surgery was required, all future appointments would take place in Del Rio.

You have to pass a Border Patrol Check Point on your way
to San Angelo.

With the pain levels she is experiencing I can not go changing neurosurgeon's on her so today we went to San Angelo.  Her appointment was at 3:20 p.m. but fortunately they were able to work her in earlier.  We will have to come back for an MRI followed by an evaluation by her surgeon, as today we were only able to see his assistant.

Both this hotel chain and the one below charge a hefty
price for a room in Sonora, Texas.

Not knowing what time we were going to get out of the clinic, I packed a suitcase as I have poor night vision.  Last night I was checking hotel rates online for Sonora, Texas hoping they would be cheaper than those in San Angelo. Sonora though not a half way point is the largest city in between.  However the oil boom and pipeline that is being constructed is affecting us regular folks that just want a room without having to dish out $100.00 for a one night's stay.

Gas prices in Sonora, Texas
It takes me three hours to get there since I drive under the speed limit of 75 mph...I drive 65 mph. Tonight I am tired but too wired from the 16 oz cup of coffee I had this morning, as well as from the euphoria of the Spurs winning Game 1 in the NBA Western Conference Finals.

Not too bad of a price for a small town and being on I-10 in Sonora.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Cravings / New e-mail address

It is funny how when we can not eat a certain food or food group we are constantly craving it.  I have been "good" since March to try to lower my cholesterol as well as glucose levels.

I happen to love breakfast food but since I am lazy, my breakfast consists of cereal with banana or strawberries.  I would kill for some menudo, bacon, eggs, sausage or biscuits and gravy but they are all no no's :-(

I would not mind a hamburger or a pizza washed down with a cold beer.  Heck, I would even settle for a glass of wine, or a frozen margarita to cheer the Spurs on as I watch the game...but no dice!

Out of all the above mentioned things, the one thing I have been desperately craving...has been ice cream.  So today I set out to change all that and got me some Blue Bell Dutch Chocolate Ice Cream with no Sugar.

It somehow hit the spot and made me go to my happy place...jajajajaja!

Wanted to let you know that hard as I tried...I could not get rid of either Gmail or Skype...so I will not be using my G-mail account anymore.  If you would like to e-mail me, you may do so at terlinguadreams@outlook.com

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

My package is on its way...again

Glad I got online early because our internet connection went down, though I have no idea why. Considered going to the laundromat but it was 94 degrees so decided to pass.

Late this afternoon wanted to go buy me some ice cream but decided to water the trees instead.  Have not seen that centipede anymore, not that I have been looking for it...just hope he is far away!

Bargain Outfitters is re-sending my package and should be here Monday, or so that is what Federal Express has on its webpage...we shall see.  I am really excited about it and anxious to try it out to see if it will work in Terlingua.  I wont tell you what it is for the now.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Freaked out!

You might recall two years ago around this same time period I saw a big fast moving "worm" in the back bathroom/shed/storage room and almost dropped dead from fright.  Then once again in October 7, 2012 saw another large worm that turned out to be a centipede in the kitchen :-(

Yesterday evening I was headed to the kitchen when I caught a glimpse of a black thing (about 10 inches long) in the hall making its way towards me.  I froze on my tracks and could not bring myself to even scream...something rare since my first reaction has always been to scream.

Thank goodness I soon realized it was not a snake but a very fat black fast moving centipede.  I had my new white tennis shoes and hesitated but I stomped it once...though it freaked me out that its shell was hard. I ran to the living room to warn mother as it slithered into the dining room and went behind some of my boxes not to be seen again.

Is this some kind of a curse?  I have no idea if it came out of my bedroom, my mother's room or the bathroom.  All I could do was throw a couple of moth balls behind my boxes and plastic totes. Got online to see how to get rid of it but there really is no good way except per a YouTube video to round it up and throw it in some boiling water...yeah like that is going happen!

The worst part is that I did not see any centipedes that even resembled the one I saw.  Mostly they were small and almost clear colored.  Read where they are huge in Hawaii and a backpacker rolled over unto one while sleeping and had to be airlifted to a hospital.  As you can imagine I did not get a wink of sleep as though I wasn't already sleep deprived.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams as I have centipede nightmares :(

Derksen Buildings Lot - May 2014

I sure do miss the Derksen Buildings lot in Del Rio, that is where I fell in love with the Solar Cabin, in case you missed that post here it is http://terlinguadreams.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-solar-cabin.html

The closest one to me is in Uvalde, Texas.  Last week that I took mother to her doctor's appointment I just had to stop when I saw they had new inventory.

This is the largest cabin that I have seen in any of their lots, it is 12 x 36 which is more than enough room for me and sells for $9,071.35 .

They had a lofted cabin in a smaller size than they usually carry. This cabin is also ideal as it makes use of wasted space and has quite a few windows.  It is 12 x 34  and sells for $10,126.79 .

While some people choose to use the loft as a
bedroom, I would much rather use it for storage.

They had an used cabin that had been returned to their lot and it looked like it had been wired for electricity.  However, who in the world would want a cabin this small to have two doors?

They had a shed but I kind of have my heart set on a loft shed...again so I can make use of wasted space.

This other shed was locked so do not know what it sells for.

I have no personal connection to Derksen buildings or its owners.  I just document it on my blog for when I finally make the biggest move in my life.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Something to be said for Radio

I do not know why knowing fully well that I have no computer skills...I try to download stuff off of the internet!  As you know I am closely following the NBA playoffs, the problem is that we only have one TV hooked up to cable.

Decided I would try to watch the game online but I had to download a program.  As usual when you do this they try to make you download other programs that have nothing to do with the original program.  Case in point I got this program called Optimizer Plus that grabbed a hold of my computer and I could not turn it off for the life of me. With it came other programs and even though I deleted them...had to do a system restore and even then they changed my main page settings.

Had enough and finally dug out my old ancient radio and listened to the game.  You know what?  I like it better than having to listen to some so called "experts" on TV.

Since it is morning I can not wish you my usual...Good night. May you have Terlingua Dreams. So I will wish you a good day instead.

May 2014 trip to Uvalde

Thursday we drove down to Uvalde, Texas a town 70 miles east of Del Rio to take my mother to her doctor's appointment. All this past week it has been in the 90's.  We had severe storm warnings and ominous skies but not a drop of rain fell either on our way there or back.

Border Patrol Check Point - Uvalde sector

The doctor my mother sees travels to Uvalde from San Antonio. While I would rather drive for an hour than the three it would take me to get San Antonio, the wait is long!  Her appointment was for 11:30 a.m. and there were others ahead of her who had been there since 8:30 a.m. but he did not arrive till noon.

Gas prices went down again which is always a good thing. Look at all the cloud coverage we had yesterday...but they just blew on by.

While HEB had this price on Veterans Memorial, it had $3.47 by the pumps.  However the going price was $3.42 around town.

My Federal Express package never made it.  Bargain Outfitters has this thing called Smartpost where if a package is small they turn it over to the local post office for delivery.  Problem is the post office does not deliver to mother's house that is why we have a P.O. Box.  They had my telephone number on the package and could have called but they sent it back as undeliverable.  It is a good thing the Chili Cook-off is still five months away!

Cyber Journal Note

Thursday May 8, 2014 they installed speed bumps on mother's street.  A bit too late for some cats and dogs including my late cat Bonnie Blue but maybe it will cut down on the speeding.

Federal Express is pissing me off!

Back on April 24th I placed an order with Bargain Outfitters a company that I do business with often.  Have never had a problem getting items delivered on a timely basis.  As a matter of fact I usually get them in 3 to 4 days.  I have been tracking my package online and it has been in Del Rio since Thursday May 1st with a Saturday delivery scheduled...here it is Tuesday and nothing!

Had to take my mother for lab work at the hospital and was pleasantly surprised to see this sign for handicap people who do early voting.  I do not know about you guys but it is the first time I have ever seen one like this before...what a great idea!

If you are new to my blog and wondered if I was OK...thank you for your concern.  I love basketball in particular my San Antonio Spurs...during May I usually disappear during the semi-finals and if my team makes it to the finals you wont see me on a regular basis either.

We pulled a Game 7 win over the Dallas Mavericks, a team I wish we had not had to play during the first round because I happen to like them too.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
