Hulla Hoe / Weed eating

As I mentioned on a prior post...I am having problems going back to sleep after administering Mom's early morning medications. This past Friday, I got tired of laying in bed and decided to give the hulla hoe a workout before it got to a high of 95 degrees.

It did not take long to make my hands hurt even while wearing gloves.  Then a light bulb went off and I decided to use my leftover water noodle (I think that is what is called) and it worked great!

I was only planning on addressing the backyard but decided the area on the street side of the fence needed it more. Turned out to be too much work using the hulla hoe...so I pulled out the electric weed eater.

The last time I went to my house in Houston...I took one of my two-100 ft extension cords so I could mow the yard using my electric lawn mower. Little did I know it would be over two years and counting before I could go back. Therefore, I unknowingly left my extension cord there.

I really needed the extra cord to finish the job.  Did the best I could under the circumstances...that being the heat and humidity...if only I had done this two months ago, it might have gone a lot smoother.  Folks, take it from me...do not procrastinate :-(

I was planning on finishing the job on Saturday morning but was not planning on it raining in the early morning hours...I left the weed eater along with the extension cord outside!

Even half way done, I felt a great sense of accomplishment.  We will see what next week brings?

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Where's that tall, weathered cowpoke when you need him? (Hopefully he didn't run to the courthouse Friday to wed his podnuh!)

    sorry-couldn't resist

Take care, Ss. I'm out in the heat everyday in my work but try to stay in the shade as much as possible and drinking LOTS of aqua constantly.

    1. I would have to buy it by the barrel full for it to have any kind of effect on the weeds :-(

Actually after watching a documentary on the Monarch butterflies and the effect that Roundup has had on their population decline by killing their food source...I would rather put up with the weeds.

  4. You are doing a great job; hope you don't run out of steam before it's finished. Of course it's never finished because new weeds just grow again. I haven't checked my yard yet, but since I've been gone so long it's probably going to take a lot of work.

  5. Im on pain meds all the time, and still, can just barely walk. I soooo need to clean my windows, and i do it with win-dex that attaches to the end of a hose.
I just watched on Facebook, all the things you can do with those water noodles. Yours just added another, lol

    1. I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling up to par, hope you get to feeling better soon.

You raised my curiosity, will have to see all the uses for water noodles. This was a left over piece after using them as insulation for the outside water takes last winter.

  6. I used to have a Hulla Hoe and it did a great job on selected areas. Not strong enough for hard, rocky ground. They are made for hoeing a garden and work quite well.

    1. Hulla Hoe's do a great job of clearing weeds that are just springing up or are not that big yet. I use it in the backyard where I try to keeps weeds down to a minimum in case there is a snake sneaking around, I can spot it.
