Sad state of affairs

Here I have a brand new computer that has a semi-fast connection to the internet but that is not compatible with Blogger.  I have not been successful in downloading Chrome.  This evening I am finally able to make a post but I had to go back to my old slow outdated computer to be able to do so...talk about sorry!

This blog serves as my cyber journal so even though this took place back on April 11th I need to be able to document it as we all know my CRS is not getting any better.  On this date I had a doctor's appointment to obtain my lab results.

There was no waiting was called in promptly at my appointment time.  Then the nurse asked me if I had brought in my lab results.  Why would I bring them, if the doctor's order clearly stated that they be faxed by the lab to her office?

Our local hospital is so bad that my mother's Uvalde doctor asked us to quit using them and sent us to another local doctor's office.  That office uses Quest Diagnostics out of San Antonio but they are just as bad.  They have lost mother's result on two occasions.  But back to MY results, I had my labs performed on April 4th.  They had a week to send them to my doctor.  You would think that since he is on the hospital board of directors they could have gotten them to him on time.

So the nurse goes to call the hospital and I don't see her for another 30 minutes.  When she comes back she asks if I was fasting the day of the labs.  Immediately, I knew this was not going to go well. Sure enough I was told I had the triple threat...high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high levels of glucose.

My nurse practitioner did not like the glucose part and highly suggested I get the A1C test in her office versus the hospital as the results would not take long. Just for poking my finger I had to pay $71.00 versus the $40.00 it would cost at the hospital, but it was important to get that out of the way.

The cholesterol part I have had for a long time and though I hate taking Statins, as high as my levels are, I know that just diet and exercise are not going to work for me so I reluctantly agree to take them.

On the plus side the last time I was forced to take Statins both in 2005 and 2014 the Spurs went on to win the NBA finals.  The negative part was that I was not able to drink even ONE congratulatory beer as you can not drink while on this medication,

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Doctors sometimes become a necessary evil. Every time I get a blood test, I am told to go see a blood specialist. I told them I've been there, done that and all they can tell me is that I am going to die and there is nothing the can do for me. Dang, I am 73 years old, I know I am going to die. Can't have too many years left. Heck, my Dad died at 60, so I feel I have beat the odds.

    1. Hopefully they are wrong Dizzy, no one really knows when we are going to die but one thing is sure...we are all going to die some day.

  2. If you have taken statins before I guess you know how they affect you. I tried them and stopped after a week as the side effects were so bad. If you end up taking meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high glucose, you probably aren't going to be feeling better due to side effects. Sorry to hear of all the problems with doctors, hospitals, and labs, and hope you start to improve.

    1. I have been taking medication for high blood pressure for 16 years and luckily have not had any side effects.

Statins are a different matter but for some reason have not had a problem with them or the glucose medication to date. Just hope it remains that way.

    2. ATT let me know I won't have to pull the phone trigger until December. Don't know how to tweet so I'm not sure how you will receive your accolades. I am thinking something on Sportscenter would be fitting. I'll let my VP for Media Relations know now so he can set it all up!

      GSG!!!
