Barricaded

The rains have really put a damper on everything.  I need to make a trip to the laundromat but it has been a struggle.  The pond that separates or perhaps should I say...isolates us from the mainland...was barricaded.  One does not cross a barricaded crossway in Texas without suffering a stiff penalty for doing so.

Late this afternoon I finally made it to the mainland and thus was able to go to the post office, and the supermarket (HEB).  On my way there, I saw an absolutely obscene number of people at the laundromat...they were parked everywhere!

On my last trip to Houston, I was not able to go to Joe V's or Food Town. The first (Joe V's) is a discount food store owned by HEB and the latter is just a great place to shop at discount prices.  I hope to be able to make another short trip in the not too distant future and stock up our pantry.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Too bad you can't ration all that rain and spread it out evenly over the hot, dry summer.

    1. If only that could be possible...the whole planet would be so much better of.

  2. I didn't realize you could be barricaded in by so much rain. That could be a scary feeling, and I hope you have food and water stocked for emergencies like that.

    1. Last year they did extensive work on the Duck Pond so the barricades would not have to go up. Unfortunately, if it rains as much as it did this weekend the Duck Pond goes over its boundaries.

A few years ago they made another exit in the back of the subdivision, the bad news is that it floods even worst in that area, so basically we are an island all to ourselves.

The good news is that most of the people are prepared for such an emergency and have food and water stocked up.

  3. At least you didn't need a boat like all those poor souls in Louisiana.

    1. No, things did not get that bad. Poor Louisiana folks they really got hit hard...as if Katrina a few years back had not been enough.
