Library / Camping / Tumble (Updated)

I am pretty bummed about how long the library expansion is taking. You would think we were adding a second story and lots of square footage.  There is little to no parking and most people park at the church across the street.

This Easter I noticed that camping in area parks has gone down.  Maybe it was the cooler temperatures.

I took a tumble this weekend when I went to feed the dogs.  I was in a hurry and did not notice that Pedrito had dug yet another hole.  I was afraid he might pounce on me but darn dog didn't even notice I fell as he was busy eating!

Only Boris and Tammy noticed.  Boris barked and Tammy looked at me as saying "well, I can't get you up woman".  Oscar did not notice either, he was busy eating as well.  I landed face down and twisted my ankle.  I laid there for a while covered in dirt and leaves.

I was in so much pain that I did not return to watch my Spurs play until the third quarter.  I am back to normal now,

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Moon over West Texas

I loved seeing the moon rising this evening.  For some reason it always brings me memories of Terlingua.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Early start to my day

We are not morning people but we had to be at the hospital early this morning for a cat scan.  It was rather nippy and was glad I found my jacket last night as it was needed.

Spring break is over in our school district. There was so much traffic, it is obvious Del Rio is no longer a small town.  Glad it is not every day that we have to be out and about during rush hour.

I so wanted to take a nap after we got home but had other stuff that required my attention. Hopefully, I can squeeze in a trip to the laundromat this week.  Oh yeah...and more weed pulling :-(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

It is not that I expect the Spurs to win every single game but how do you blow a 20 plus point lead?
Sports commentator Sean Elliot summed it up best "we had a win hangover".

We got complacent and along with turnovers, it pretty much sealed our fate.  Only positive thing I can say is that at least we did not play at home.

Not in our house!

If you are not into basketball...I thank you for your readership...but you might want to skip this post.

For weeks I have been so hyped up for this game that I could just taste it.  Us Spurs fans wanted revenge after the blow out loss to the Warriors on our last encounter and boy did we get it!

There is no way we were going to let them beat us at our house! We are a perfect 35 wins 0 losses at home.  If you are still reading me you know how great the Golden State Warriors are.  That is why this win against them means so much to us fans.

Our defense was phenomenal and they deserve all the credit.  I am so proud of MY Spurs :)

I live close to a very busy street and you could tell that something special was happening as very few cars transited the road during game time tonight.

Go Spurs Go!!!

You did good City of Del RIo

Had been following the severe weather in the area via the San Antonio stations newscasts. Batted down the hatches and put the car in the garage to prevent hail damage.

I was outside feeding the dogs when the phone rang.  When I came back inside, saw that there was a message.  It was an automated call from the City of Del Rio warning of a severe storm with hail. Referred me to the City's Facebook page as well as channel 34.  That was good and well but I do not have Time Warner Cable and Dish has nothing on Ch 34.

A short time later the city's sirens went off for a good while which I appreciated because being a stones throw from Mexico, if I do not go outside, I have no idea what country's sirens are going off. Thankfully, it did not amount to much but I liked the heads-up which we have never received in the past.  You did good City of Del Rio.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Mother:  Belinda when did you become such a tomboy?

I heard mother in pain last night (Thursday) and rushed to her side.  She had leg cramps and when she saw me apologized for waking me up.  Told her I was not asleep but watching the Spurs game. She was confused as it was 2:00 a,m. and she thought the game was over hours ago.

Told her it was but I was watching the re-transmission...that is when she asked the above question...jajajaja!

I can hardly wait until this afternoon to watch what is sure to be a ratings grabber Spurs vs Golden State Warriors game.,

I do not care if the house is on fire or a tornado is headed this way.  I am turning off the phone, locking myself in my bedroom. icing down some Coors Light to watch my Spurs and forgetting the default world for the duration of the game.  Oh yeah...depending on the outcome, may watch the game again in re-transmission :)

GO SPURS GO!!!

Cooking / Pissy Ants / Yard work

Taking my mother to the grocery store in Mexico is never a good idea. Since it is a rather big store, I use their available wheelchair with its small basket. In no time flat she had filled it up.  Reluctantly went and got a small cart which by the way...I love...as I had to push the cart and wheelchair at the same time,

Her weaknesses are fruits, vegetables and sweet bread.  Yesterday we had to cook the nopalitos (tender cactus), and though it was in the 90's for the second consecutive day...made "caldo" to use the carrots, calabacitas, cilantro, chayote, potatoes and other vegetables we had in the refrigerator.

She went crazy buying rice, peruvian beans and yogurt.  I have no idea why we can not find apple yogurt in the States.

Today I got the hula hoe out and went to work.  Unfortunately, I barely made a dent.  As if the weeds were not bad enough...after the recent rains we have mounds of pissy ants everywhere.  That includes the kitchen.

Had to drive into town this afternoon when this blooming bougainvillea caught my eye.  In this part of Texas even though the calendar says it is winter...in reality here Spring sprung a long time ago.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

March 2016 trip to Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico

Mother had been dropping a lot of hints of her desire to make a trip to the beauty shop.  The last time I was here was back on October 2015 when I came to stock up for my annual trip to the desert.

With illness and doctor's appointments the trip kept on getting postponed until today.  Of course I would have to choose the hottest day so far this year...it got to 92 degrees.

That is why I was so impressed by the covered parking area and other upgrades that we found at Gutierrez, one of our favorite stores in Ciudad Acuna.  It came in handy on a warm day like today.

Aurrera (owned by Walmart) inagurated a new store closer to town (the original is in the north part of Ciudad Acuna) while it is much smaller than the other one, it is well stocked and carries my favorite hot sauce that is not found at the other stores including HEB in Del Rio.  Wouldn't you know it, I forgot to take a picture of the new store, promise to get one next time.

Being Spring Break, there were a lot of tourists in Ciudad Acuna.  The dollar is at an all time high so Americans can get a lot of bang for their buck. I still had Mexican currency so I did not have to buy pesos.

The trip back home would have gone a lot faster had I not chosen the shortest line...there was a reason for that...yep, a lady agent.  Lucky for us a male agent took her place and the line sped up. He swiped our passports, asked what we had to declare and send us on our way.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Technology/CRS/ Uvalde

Some times this computer works and sometimes it gives me fits...lately it has been nothing but problems. Spent almost an hour trying to pay mother's car insurance online. Decided to call their 1+ 800 number and was done in less than a minute.

Remember I found $111.00 from my 2012 trip to Terlingua?  Well, I got the bright idea of buying a tablet, when I have never used a tablet before in my life.  I am shouting at the darn thing as my fingers are unable to tap on the keyboard.  Then it wants to force me to set up a G-mail account when I do not want one.  I should of kept the cash!

I downloaded a different keyboard but have no idea how to make it permanent.  Sadly technology was not meant for me :(

This has not been my week.  My CRS is getting worst but at least I can blame it on my Fibromyositis. I needed to have the front passenger tire checked before our trip to Uvalde last week and of course I forgot.

It was raining as I went to get the car from the garage to park it up front so mother would not get wet. Wouldn't you know it, the darn low tire indicator decided to turn back on.  No problem as due to the weather we had a two hour head start and I could stop at the tire store to get it looked at.

Came back in to load our overnight bags just in case we had to spend the night at a hotel if the weather got worst.  The phone rang and it was the Uvalde doctor's office calling to let me know that mother's lab work had not been faxed to their office despite the assurance from the labs that they would have them to his office first thing in the morning.

Now my two hour cushion was gone as I had to go by their office to pick up the report.  I drove by the tire shop but they had several customers so decided to take my chances and drive with a low tire even though from looking at it you could not tell it was low.

We had a 3:00 p.m. appointment and did not get to see the doctor until 7:10 p.m.  We were out of there by 7:30 p.m. and he still had patients waiting.  Had it been raining I would of gotten a room. We got into a thunderstorm about 20 miles before Del Rio in Bracketville, Texas.

How do you all like the time change?  The only good thing about it is that now no matter how late we get out of the doctor's office at least I wont have to drive in the dark.  Other than that I hate it.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

My CRS is getting so bad I forgot we had a game Thursday. Only got to see the last five minutes but no problem saw that they were going to retransmit it at 1:00 a.m.  I am known for being an insomniac yet now that I actually wanted to stay up, I fell asleep during half time :(

We have been playing so well especially at home.  I guess many of the younger fans are spoiled because they take making the playoffs for granted when people my age got to be fans through the lean years.

I so wish my dad was still around to see his team be so successful...he would be so proud.

Go Spurs Go!!!
