Annoyed

Last night we had a thunderstorm, nothing out of the ordinary when DISH went out.  I was in the middle of finding out how much a camouflage metal container which was magnificently remodeled by the husband/wife team known as the Young Guns on "Texas Flip and Move" went for at auction. It was the perfect structure to have in Terlingua...it had an outdoor shower, a deck on the roof with strong railing and an enclosed garage for your ATV.

This afternoon I turned on the 5:00 p.m. news only to find that the series I watch on weekends was going to air then instead of at their usual time.  I had just checked the TV Guide this morning and there was no indication of the change.

Was watching the series when all of the sudden the TV went blank...uttered a few choice words about DISH...only to find out that this time it was not their fault...the power had gone out.  I was so pissed! It was 5:50 p,.m. perfect weather, blue skies, no wind.  If you have been reading for a while you know that this is a common occurrence in South Val Verde County.

My blood pressure started going through the roof as 7:00 p.m. neared and the electricity had not come back on.  Why?  because it was Game 1 of the Spurs vs Thunder series.  Looked everywhere for a radio but the only one I found uses like ten C-batteries of which I did not have a one.

Went to the garage but had to move the car to get a better signal.  Parked in the back, the front and finally the side of the house where I got a better reception. I had turned the outside light on so I could tell when the electricity came back on. It did so with about two minutes before the end of the second quarter.

I still have no idea why we lost power.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I knew we would come out strong in the first game against the OKC Thunder but I never imagined what a great game we would have against them.  It was a smack down!

I can hardly wait until Monday!  My prediction is Spurs in six.

Sad state of affairs

Here I have a brand new computer that has a semi-fast connection to the internet but that is not compatible with Blogger.  I have not been successful in downloading Chrome.  This evening I am finally able to make a post but I had to go back to my old slow outdated computer to be able to do so...talk about sorry!

This blog serves as my cyber journal so even though this took place back on April 11th I need to be able to document it as we all know my CRS is not getting any better.  On this date I had a doctor's appointment to obtain my lab results.

There was no waiting was called in promptly at my appointment time.  Then the nurse asked me if I had brought in my lab results.  Why would I bring them, if the doctor's order clearly stated that they be faxed by the lab to her office?

Our local hospital is so bad that my mother's Uvalde doctor asked us to quit using them and sent us to another local doctor's office.  That office uses Quest Diagnostics out of San Antonio but they are just as bad.  They have lost mother's result on two occasions.  But back to MY results, I had my labs performed on April 4th.  They had a week to send them to my doctor.  You would think that since he is on the hospital board of directors they could have gotten them to him on time.

So the nurse goes to call the hospital and I don't see her for another 30 minutes.  When she comes back she asks if I was fasting the day of the labs.  Immediately, I knew this was not going to go well. Sure enough I was told I had the triple threat...high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high levels of glucose.

My nurse practitioner did not like the glucose part and highly suggested I get the A1C test in her office versus the hospital as the results would not take long. Just for poking my finger I had to pay $71.00 versus the $40.00 it would cost at the hospital, but it was important to get that out of the way.

The cholesterol part I have had for a long time and though I hate taking Statins, as high as my levels are, I know that just diet and exercise are not going to work for me so I reluctantly agree to take them.

On the plus side the last time I was forced to take Statins both in 2005 and 2014 the Spurs went on to win the NBA finals.  The negative part was that I was not able to drink even ONE congratulatory beer as you can not drink while on this medication,

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Computer/ Weeds / Parade

I bit the bullet and finally purchased a new computer.  It sat in the corner for eight days as I was having second thoughts.  This past Saturday I decided to finally set it up.  I would like to say that it went smoothly but I would be lying...you know how bad I am with technology :-(

For years I put off buying one as they were equipped with Windows 8 and I can barely navigate around Window 7.  This Windows 10 from my point of view is not any better. Where are my e-mails?  It forced me to set up a code to have access to it...but I can't see them!!!

I want to set up Chrome but it wont let me.  Blogger is telling me "the browser I am using is unsupported and may result in unexpected behavior".  So I have no idea how this post will turn out.

I have come to the conclusion that it is not so much my old computer or this one for that matter that is slow...it is the darn Internet connection.  I do not recommend DISH Internet to anyone.  For that matter I do not recommend DISH TV either.  Last night I was watching a game and surfing the web when the signal went out and it wasn't even raining that hard...glad it was after the Spurs game!

I went to feed the dogs this morning and noticed that the weeds around Pedrito's tree were getting big...so I grabbed my Hulla Hoe and went to work.  That inspired me to try to clear up more weeds. The weather was perfect, cloudy and breezy.  I even tackled the weeds and darn baby mesquite growing on the street side of the fence.

I felt a sense of accomplishment. However, I think I might have over done it...my back, arms, legs and hands are killing me.

As I type this I am watching the 75th Texas Cavaliers River Parade taking place during the Fiesta celebrations in San Antonio, Texas.  It was in jeopardy of not taking place due to the rains. Hope to one day be able to take that and other Fiesta events in person.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

The playoffs began Saturday April 16th and I have been in hog heaven since. My prediction for this first round is a sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kawhi Leonard was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  A well deserved honor for this exemplary young player that has a very bright future with the Spurs.

Nervous Anticipation

I apologize to my wonderful readers who left me comments that I was not able to answer until today. It may take me a while but I do respond.

With doctors appointments, labs, out-of-town trips, and the Spurs games I am a little behind.  I have had four months to write down my daily blood pressure readings but true to my procrastinating ways waited until this morning to even start that task.  Considering I go to the doctor tomorrow, I say I will either have a late night or an early morning nervous fit trying to gather my information.

Good night,  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

More than anything else I think I am a total nervous wreck in anticipation of tonight's game against the Golden State Warriors.  While I have high hopes we will defend our record of 40-0 at home, nothing would make them happier than to dash that.  Then again nothing would make us happier than to end their chase for the Bulls record.

If you happen to be a basketball fan...this is the game everyone hopes to be able to watch.  There is a lot at stake tonight for both teams,

Economic Boost

Some parts of Del Rio were hard hit by golf size hail two weeks ago.  Since then we have had an influx of hail repair businesses setting up all over town.  While the local paper only mentioned the better hotels being at full occupancy, the other hotels in the area seem full as well.

This past Friday,  April 1st around 2:10 a.m. being the night owl that I am...I was up, when I heard like rocks hitting the roof and my bedroom window.  It did not take long to realize that it was hail. It was so loud it even woke up mother.

Went to open up the front door to look out and yep it was hailing pea size and quarter size hail. Saw the neighbors running outside to put their cars under the carport and others turning on the lights to see what was going on.  Lucky for us, the car was in the garage and we have a metal roof,

Seems a lot of cars in this area substained damage and now we have even more hail repair shops and roofing contractors setting up shop in our little town,  Goes to show how there can be a silver lining even in hard times.

For the past two weeks I have been trying to eat right, gave up my 7-UP, menudo, pizza and all those things that are delicious but not good for you.  All so the lab work I had done today would not come out as bad as I think it will.  I know two weeks of sacrifice can't make up for months of bad habits but at least I can lie to myself and say...I tried?

I was fasting but was not able to make it to the hospital until 1:30 p.m.  Had to run other errands and was starving, decided  that since I have one week until I get the results, I might as well reward myself since I do not anticipate good news.

Stopped at Whataburger as it has been at least three or four months since I have eaten a hamburger. By this time it was around 3:00 p.m so I was very surprised at how full the parking lot was and how many people were dining inside...again an economic boost to our local economy.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
