Lightning Show

The first storms that hit the area were in northwest Val Verde County and did not reach Del Rio. It mainly affected Comstock, Texas a town 30 miles northwest of us. The lightning show began around 9:45 p.m. and it goes without saying that we lost both Dish Internet and TV signal.

The telephone rang at 10:40 p.m. it was the City of Del Rio warning that we would be hit by severe storms in a few minutes and to check their Facebook page.  That would be fine and dandy if I had an Internet connection...grrrrrrrrrr...calm down Belinda, you only have one more month left on your worthless Dish contract!

We got hammered pretty good by rain and winds. I was afraid the lights might go out so I had my solar lights handy but it never came to that.  There was so much damage in Rockwall and north Texas. The same storm system is fixing to hit the Greater Houston area, hope my poor house holds up.

All this rain is only going to make the weeds grow and in case you are wondering...no, I still have not gotten to them.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I am so looking forward to tonight's game against the Golden State Warriors.  I am still on a high after the spanking we gave Lebron's Cavaliers on Monday. It was possibly one of the best defensive games we have played in a while and a true delight to watch.

Go Spurs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. If you could find a good use for the weeds you'd be in fat city with this rain!

  2. I was worried about yall out west - woke up about 1:30 and stayed up until it was thru here. After the Feb 20th night, I have the willies now. Not as bad as forecast and that's a GOOD thing! There was a confirmed tornado somewhere around Uvalde. Cavs game was awesome - what about LeBum's faking that injury? Classic! GO SPURS GO!

    1. I knew that some severe weather activity was expected to occur for KSAT12 to send one of their anchors in their new weather tracking vehicle to Del Rio on the 6:00 p.m. newscast.

They were broadcasting from here when they did the 10:00 p.m. news and were showing all the lightning strikes, then I lost the signal.

Can't say I blame you for having the willies after last months tornadoes in particular when it was happened practically in your back yard.

Lol, I thought the same thing about Lebron faking that injury...the broadcasters probably did too but never mentioned it.

    2. You know when they say beware when things are just too good to be true? All I can say is that we played excellent for 12 minutes but a game lasts 48.

I would say that "bummer" is being kind. I had other choice words for them last night.

  3. It will be interesting to hear how Dish tries to get you to renew your contract!

    1. They would have to offer the service for free for me to stay with them.

    1. In all the years I lived in Houston I never had cable and was perfectly happy with the free channels.

In Del Rio actually most of West Texas the channels that are free in big cities are not free here, one has to have cable and the programming comes from San Antonio a city 144 miles east of us.

  5. Our first satellite system was with Dish probably 25 to 30 years ago. We got one of the $100 deals with 2 receivers and instulation and we paid for a years service. Several months into the contract they disabled one of the receivers. When I called about it they didn't come right out and say that we had messed with the box but said it was capable of receiving programing we weren't paying for. It was like they were reading from a script because I called several times and got the same story. The guy that installed the system couldn't believe it so he called and got the same message. They wanted me to buy a new receiver for $100 and I told them no. We made do with the one receiver until our contract ran out. I called DirecTv and had their system installed. When I called Dish to cancel our service then they wanted to give me a new receiver. So sad too bad, I was done with them. I'm not all that happy with DirecTv. I think it's ridiculous what we pay for TV but my husband thinks he would die if he didn't have it. He wants the football package and I bet he doesn't watch 2 games.

    1. Martha I thank you for your comment, for a while there it seemed that I was the only one that did not have anything good to say about Dish.

Some of my friends have or had had DirecTv and were not happy either. I think the problem must lie in satellite systems in general. As much as I have bad mouthed Time Warner Cable in the past for their high prices and monopoly in this area, we rarely lost the signal.

The comment about your husband made me smile, I think many men would identify with him :)

  6. I very, very rarely watch any channel other than Turner Classic Movies, but I have to have it. It's pretty insane to pay Comcast so much money just for a couple of ancient Cary Grant movies per month.

It'd be great if we could give away the channels we don't use. I'll keep TCM, Andy can get the weather channel, you could get the basketball & telenovela channels and Martha's husband could get the football ones! ;-)

I think your house probably made out OK, in case you hadn't yet checked with your neighbors. I don't know where you live exactly but I can sorta guess the general vicinity & I was driving literally all over the NW quadrant of town* today & it all looked fine. The storm seemed to totally wimp out going east after passing over your Del Rio house, so thanks for playing defense for us! ;-0

*(Including Cypress Creek Parkway/1960 all the way from 249 to 45 in rush hour, no less! I think I deserve a medal for that, but I settled for a huge platter of BBQ from Rudy's after the ordeal was all over. Yum. Eating it now!)

  7. It would be nice if we could only pay for the channels we actually watch. I know some people stream their favorites using Amazon, Vudu, Hulu Plus and other services but they do not carry my basketball games. Besides one has to have a fast internet connection to do that.

Thanks for the weather update on my side of town as I have not had a chance to talk to my neighbors. You are certainly deserving of your Rudy's bbq platter.
