May 2017 trip to San Antonio

Got up at 4:51 a.m. so we could get an early start for our trip to San Antonio.  Rain was predicted in the morning but glad it did not come to fruition.  We had overcast skies all the way and it made for a very pleasant drive.

We had an appointment with the ex-Uvalde, Texas doctor for whom we usually have a long waiting time. In case we could not make it back in time to watch Game 5 between the Spurs and Rockets, I packed an overnight bag so we could stay at a hotel.

Fortunately, we were able to get out of San Antonio before rush hour.  We stopped in Castroville for a bite to eat as I did not want to heat up dinner when we got back to Del Rio.  Figured I would miss the first half of the game but it does not matter how we start the game but how we end it and boy did we end it on a positive note!

Gasoline prices keep on creeping up. Uvalde, Texas had the lowest price between Del Rio and San Antonio. I filled up at $2.11 a gallon for regular gasoline.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I absolutely LOVED watching the game last night.  Manu Ginobili turned back the hands of time.

Turns out I did not miss out on watching the first half as they rebroadcast the game. Stayed up until the wee hours and relished every minute of it though I only had three hours of sleep the night before.

GO SPURS GO!!!!!

  1. I would love to find gas at $2.11/gal. I think Costco is somewhere around $2.59 (I'm not positive about that). California has what they call a summer formulation which supposedly is less polluting. So the gas prices rise in summer and get a bit lower during the winter. You remind me I need to fill up my tank as it's getting low!

    1. Actually for California $2.59 per gallon is not bad.

  2. Gas here is 2.12 and doesn't seem to by any competition anywhere in town.

    1. $2.12 per gallon is a fairly good price. I am sure it will much higher during the summer months.

  3. Worried about my Ss - supercells with tennis ball size hail and possible tornadoes! Hope you, Mother and critters are safe. Nice weather afterwards.

    1. The city alarms activated this evening. Ofcourse, my worthless Dish internet is out. Thankfully, I am able to use my cell to go online. A tornado was spotted on Veterans Memorial the cities main drag and is reported to be closed.

    2. Meant to say "A tornado was spotted on Veterans Memorial Boulevard, the main drag in Del Rio and said street was reportedly closed to traffic".

    4. Your "curandera"...jajajaja :D
Heard Spurs candles were selling like hotcakes at HEB and Target.

I think the Rockets will play the game of their lives and the series will go to 7. However, I am not opposed to finishing them off tonight.

      Go Spurs Go!!!

    5. My curandera was right - Rockets looked like $#!T - I can't believe it was that easy - one of the best victories for SPURS franchise ever.

    6. Your curandera put a spell on James Harden? Well, that would certainly explain a lot.

I tell ya, the commentators & fans were so brutal to James about his disastrous performance I had to turn it all off. They were making me feel so sorry for him I wasn't enjoying the Spurs win.

I hope he's ok, like it was maybe just the early stages of a virus he didn't even realize he has yet, or poor diet or something not terribly complicated like a metabolism problem.[Or, yes, a curandera making temporary mischief? ;)]

    7. As our Ss would say: jajajajajaja

The national media never gives the SPURS credit they deserve - its more about Harden than the SPURS overcoming their own adversity.

I was thinking the Warriors would be doom but am feeling better with the play of LaMarcus and Jonathan. Our little Aussie has been fantastic also. Bring em on! GO SPURS GO!

  5. I saw $2.11 yesterday in Jasper Georgia, it's depressing to think that prices are not any better in Texas. Texas has always had good prices!

    1. I was surprised a small town such as Uvalde would have more competitive prices than San Antonio.

  6. That game the other night was about as entertaining as basketball ever gets with such an unlikely trio of heroes at the end.

But wow, was it ever heart stopping in the OT. I'm not sure I've recovered enough to watch them play again so soon tonight, can you imagine how drained the players must have felt after that wild, adrenaline-fueled show?

[And yes, I'm rooting for the Spurs this series. T-Dreamers have got 'em covered all across the state!]

    1. I am on pins and needles waiting for the game to begin. I may go into cardiac arrest if the game is anything like the last one.

    2. 61-42 at the half with all their stars gone!

Per SportsCenter: The last time the Spurs started no players named Kawhi, Manu, Tony or Tim in the playoffs was... May 2, 2000.

All of which just proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the truly indispensible star is Pop.

    3. While I am pleased with our performance, I was expecting more competitiveness from the Rockets in particular from Harden.

I do not like blowouts but I will take what I can get. One more half to go.

I think you are right on the money about Pop being the indispensable star.
