Streaming services / rising cable costs

Both yesterday and today we have had sunny skies and temperatures in the high 60's.  However, the wind kind of ruined it for me and I took a day off.  Sat down to watch some of the shows I taped on the DVR.

Speaking of DVR...I do not know what is wrong with the remote...have to program shows by going online.  Hope they do not charge me to replace it.

I bundle internet, cable and telephone services to get a better price but I noticed that each month it goes up not by much but it does increase.  What I can not do without is the internet.  These days there are a lot of streaming services to be able to watch my shows online.  Do any of you use these? If you do are you able to watch NBA games?

Have to take care of a lot of things this week that I have been putting off.  Can hardly believe this month is almost over with.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

What is happening with my Spurs?  We got beat tonight and significantly by the second-worst team in the league.  I had a bad feeling from the start, oh well hopefully we will do better tomorrow?

  1. Have you changed the batteries in your remote? That's the extent of my help there. I have a ROKU that I love - literally thousands of channels and movies to choose from. I watch YOUR SPURS via that device as I can get ESPN, FOXsportssw, TNT etc. Fortunately I have a friend who let's me "borrow" her U-verse username and password to get some of those sports channels - you may have to pay for a server like SLING for that but its a lot cheaper than cable. I watched a Betty Boop cartoon in your honor last week where she was Cinderella - I think it was from the 30's. Google Pluto TV and check out its lineup - that's the kind of choices out there. Good luck!

    1. The first and only thing I know how to do is to check the batteries. The remote also controls the television and I had no issue with that.

When I was trying to watch a game on my tablet (in the hotel) it asked for my TV provider and also wanted my username and password and of course with my CRS I had forgotten it. That tells me that I can not ditch Spectrum if I want to watch anything "live". You are lucky your friend shares her password with you.

Lol, on you watchng a Betty Boop cartoon in my honor...jajajajaja!

    3. When they play like they've been playing lately YOU can have them! Worst RRT ever (that I can remember).

    6. But I could use a cold one - on dietary restriction for sodium and sugar (includes alcohol) - plus no way could I eat Stripes with all that sodium!

    7. I could use a cold one too but spent 8 hours watching the Congressional hearings and did not have time to drive into town for a six pack.

There is nothing worst than being on medication or diet restrictions in particular during the playoffs, then win a championship and not be able to drink even ONE celebratory beer :-(

Hope we get a WIN tonight...GSG!!!

  3. We have netflix, Amazon prime, PBS & CBS all access (that's me). Plus the ROKU.
Broadcast TV when it's available through the RV's antenna & booster.

I use my laptop as a DVR with the broadcast tv and other times viewing off the internet. The laptop & internet MIfI are powered via 12v & that's powered by solar panels.

Amazon prime keeps going up every year & Netflix just had a price increase...

As long as we can afford it I keep paying...

  4. Wow Rob, you have a lot streaming options.

When you use your laptop as a DVR do you save it to an external drive?

I guess I will keep paying for Spectrum since my Spurs are well worth it and there is nothing else to do in Del Rio.

  5. Since I don't watch sports I'm just fine and get annoyed when almost ever channel is consumed by sports. As you know I do not have cable or sattle light I quit it all years ago. I do have internet and that's all. They get you coming and going on with these companies

    1. In Del Rio if you do not have cable or satellite you have a blank TV set because we get all our open air channels from San Antonio and though they are free there as in most major cities we unfortunately have to pay for them.

The last time I was in Houston I had over 70 free open air channels. I would never pay for cable there.

Like yourself I do not think I could live without Internet.
