On our last trip to Uvalde, we got home late. Perhaps, I should clarify that, it wasn't late...it was past sundown. As I have mentioned previously...my night vision leaves a lot to be desired.
Since our almost tragic trip to Uvalde last year when we had a simultaneous run in with an 18 wheeler as well as a deer...I tend to feed the dogs more than well so they can hang on until someone can come to their rescue in case of our demise.
We had just crossed the Duck Pond on the way to Mom's house when I spotted a dog that looked a lot like Tammy (named after Tammy Wynette). She is the only dog that is not tied up, so I wondered why she was so far from the house when I left her plenty of food. She is a stray after all, so I did not give it much thought.

As soon as we pulled into the driveway, I was surprised to see her waiting for us. That meant that dog was not Tammy.

Hope you all have a happy Valentine's Day, with your sweetie. Since I do not have a sweetie (AKA my tall weathered cowboy) I will spend it with my three men...Pedrito, Boris, Oscar and little Tammy.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
I love dogs . . . we lost our precious 12 year old border collie/brittany mix about a year ago and are looking for a couple of good/needy dogs. Alas, we live many miles away. We have already picked out the names, i.e. Ruff and Reddy.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many needy dogs that need a good home. I am sure you will soon find your Ruff and Reddy.
DeleteIt is hard to turn strays away. Hope it all works out for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dizzy.
DeleteI bet George Jones never thought Tammy Wynette looked like a dog!!!
ReplyDeleteGSG!
jajajaja...you say the darnest things Sb...:D
DeleteThe reason I named her that is because she is a long suffering dog and has put up with Pedrito...the dog she originally came here with and stood "by her man" even though he did not allow her to eat until he was finished and then he would eat part of her food until I put an end to that.
Even now that he is tied up and can't get to her food, she wont eat until he finishes eating...crazy dog!
GSG!
Interesting......thanks for taking care of what you can over there. They appreciate you!
DeleteI do not know if they appreciate me or not...but it feels good to be able to help them out even though it is on a small scale.
DeleteSPURS RRT - 4-1 on 8 game trip - NOT BAD, Ss! GSG!!!!
DeleteWe are not doing bad at all during this RRT. I can hardly wait until they are home again :)
DeleteSince she is not legally your dog, I wonder if you could get the SPCA to spay her at no cost to you. I wish I could find a nice stray dog but I haven't ever seen any around locally.
ReplyDeleteWe do not have an SPCA, we live in the county so Animal Control wont come out here either, you have to live within Del Rio city limits.
DeleteI have wanted to get her fixed for a long time but in the year that she has been here she has never allowed me to pet her. If I get too close to her she runs. There is no way she is going to let me put a collar and leash on her.
If she freaks out and bites me, I have no insurance and besides being painful a round of rabies shots I imagine is expensive.
I have been dealing with some personal issues but I am back and I am glad you are still here!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Mr. Rat.
DeleteBetween doctor's appointments and my NBA games I have not been posting much.
Alpine won't take Terlingua dogs..so we just keep them all. We are lucky as our vet has a grant that pays for spay and nuter..Those are some lucky pups.
ReplyDeleteSure wish we had some free spay and neutering services in this area...but no dice :(
