Wildfires / Warm Temperatures / Goodyear

It has been very warm lately but as soon as the sun sets it cools down significantly. Our dew point levels have been low 10 to 15% something I do not recall ever seeing before. There have been two wildfires close to San Antonio and many acres have been burnt.

At noon I heard there was a new wildfire in northern Kinney County which is where Brackettville, Texas is located and only 30 miles from Del Rio.

There is no rain in the forecast.

I drove to the post office to pick up the mail, dropped off recyclables, and paid a visit to Ross. I wanted to check out their tennis shoes hoping to find some with more padding and support. My parents house has a lot of cacti and darn mesquite trees branches whose sharp thorns do a number on my shoes.

I was very surprised to find that Goodyear...yes, the famous tire maker now makes tennis shoes 😁

They look sturdy and at $26.99 a good price but they were more like hiking shoes and were heavy so I had to pass.

Learned that Goodyear also makes luggage...who knew?

I considered going to Marshall's which is located at the other end of the mall but my feet were hurting perhaps on another occasion?

On the way home I passed by HEB and this was the going price for gasoline today. They seemed to be doing a brisk business.

$3.79 for unleaded gasoline

I do not know what I did but I messed up the alignment of this post...sorry about that!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Plantar Fasciitis / Ollie's / Domino's

Finally no strong winds last night but I still struggled to fall asleep. Went outside early to feed the cats and put out the trash. I honestly have no idea where my day goes as before I knew it...it was 3:30 p.m. the winds had once again started and I had not gotten ready to run errands.

For those new to my blog, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis on both feet last year. It is an extremely painful condition, especially on my right foot. There is no cure for it, you can do exercises to alleviate it to some extent though that has not worked well for me. Another treatment requires injections on my feet...that is NOT going to happen!

Ollie's is a discount store that opened last year it carries items to deal with this malady at much cheaper prices than Walmart or HEB.  Ollie's buys in bulk from other stores that are going out of business or directly from manufacturers and passes the savings to their customers.

I was lucky to find the last night support for my condition at the very affordable price of $3.99...

Picked up a couple of other items before they sell out including a wonderful body lotion that smells divine and hydrates my skin. Ollie's also carries a large selection of As Seen On TV products.

I was starving to death so I stopped at Domino's to buy my favorite cheat on my diet food....PIZZA!

I am happy to report that it was delicious!!! 😋

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Strong Winds / Red Flag Warning

I barely slept last night as the winds were howling and making the living room window rattle as this is an old house. I sat in the living room recliner hoping to relax but Mr. Joe's motion-detecting lights kept on coming on and shining onto the blinds not because of the wind but because I believe the sensitivity settings need to be adjusted...this happens nightly.

I was trying to watch TV but we had a couple of power surges so I gave up and decided to watch YouTube videos on my cellphone instead.

The news at noon confirmed that our wind gusts were in the 39 mph range...

It came as no surprise that we were also under a Red Flag Warning.

Wild weather in Texas

Tornados, hail, strong winds, rain, and snow today throughout the state. This morning when I went out to feed the cats the sky was very dark and cloudy which did not match the weather forecast reported on the evening news last night.

It would have been nice to have gotten a shower as Del Rio has not had any measurable precipitation since December 2021, our part of the county is in extreme drought. The menacing clouds, if they fell, did so in the northern part of Val Verde County out by the lake that really needs it.

I hope none of my readers were impacted by today's wild weather in Texas especially those in areas affected by tornados.

What has not changed are the strong winds that from what I have read have been impacting California, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas. Last night they were fierce even the house was creaking.

Hope you guys were able to take advantage of the annual free cone at Dairy Queen.

Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Last cold front of the season?

We are having some wicked winds here in southern Val Verde County and temperatures are going to drop below the freezing mark this evening. I sure am glad I have not washed Midnight (my car) because it along with the others are caked with dust. The news at noon said 33 mph but it sure felt like they were higher than that.

Actually, it is not only us but the whole state of Texas that is under a freeze warning and is experiencing high winds. However, I am not complaining and I will relish this what I hope is our "last cold front" of the season as our summers can be brutal.

On Wednesday, March 2nd I went to drop off metal cans and plastic water bottles at the Recycling Center but prior to that I had stopped at Stripes to pick up a breakfast taco but everything looked dry so I passed. I was hungry so I stopped at Burger King and since no one was dining at the time decided to eat my meal there. I apologize for this small picture but when I e-mail them to myself they shrink 😒

This is probably the fourth time I have eaten here since it opened three or four years ago so I am not familiar with the menu. The guy asked me if I wanted small, medium, or large...so I said large. I had no idea that "large" referred to everything else but the darn breakfast sandwich which was frankly not that good. First KFC and now Burger King...are the "Let Me Cheat Fast Food Gods" conspiring against me?

A gentleman arrived and also decided to dine in. Like most people these days he was on his phone calling his friends or relatives to relay the price of gasoline at various places in town. I had already seen the price at HEB when I drove by but could not take a picture because the phone was in my purse.  On my way home I stopped to snap a picture.

Price on March 2, 2022

Even though I still had 3/4th of a tank I got a wild hair and decided to fill up. Something I am grateful for. That is the last time I gassed up Midnight.

As you know I am a "news junkie" so I have been glued to the television set and somehow making a post about my first-world problems that do not amount to a hill of beans in the enormity of what is going on in the world seemed trivial...but I needed a break and decided to give myself one this afternoon. That in a nutshell is why I have not made a post or even gone online.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
