I am so tired!

While I have my alarm set to go off at 6:00 a.m. and then 8:00 a.m. to administer Mom her medications, I quickly went back to bed afterward. Thursday and today neither one of us officially got up until noon.

Had to make a trip to Walmart and that tired me out even more. The Spurs had an early afternoon game and I kept on falling asleep so recorded it.  Decided to watch it at midnight when I was finally fully awake.  It was a great game until the last 2 minutes 30 seconds...it went over and the darn thing did not record the end...GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Had to go online to find out how it turned out.  I was so happy we won decided to watch the rebroadcast but only made it to the second quarter.

The weeds keep on growing but I did not feel like tackling them today.  The neighbor kids had a school holiday so they were outside all day along with their parents...maybe next week?

Gasoline prices are starting to skyrocket once more.  I filled up in Castroville, Texas at $2.25 a gallon for regular unleaded, yesterday I was going to fill up but there were lines everywhere and you know how I feel about lines.  Will have to pay a dime or more per gallon but the good thing is that my car is not a gas guzzler.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Stormy night in San Antonio

We are in drought conditions in much of the State of Texas so I was glad to learn that we would finally be getting the much needed liquid gold.  However, we had doctors appointments in San Antonio and the weather forecast called for severe weather.  If it wasn't because I had already canceled prior appointments due to mother's fall and these are hard to come by went ahead and bit the bullet.

Monday night I had all of three hours of sleep and last night I was hoping to get some shut-eye but between heavy downpours, thunder, lightning and ambulance sirens (we stayed in the Medical Center area) not to mention my anxiety over possible hail pounding my car...which thankfully did not materialize...I barely slept.

We had an early morning appointment so as soon as there was a lull in the storms quickly loaded the car and took off.  We barely got to the doctor's office when once again storms broke out.  The good thing was that the severe weather that hit Uvalde, Hondo, and Castroville earlier this morning was a thing of the past when we headed back home.

I was happy to see that my primitive rain catchment system was full!!!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

They are here......

Last week my mother asked me if I had a cardboard box, told her I did.  She suggested I make a "cucha" for the white cat.  You might ask yourself, what's that?  It is a bed for a pet that they use to sleep in or safeguard themselves from the elements.  If you follow my other blog, you saw I made one for Pedrito, Tammie, Oscar, and Ralph in particular during winter months.

I found it strange as mother is not fond of cats or dogs.  If that was not enough she had me buy her cat food.  I do not feed her, I only provide her with water but did as I was told.  It appears she feels sorry for her because she is pregnant and eats mice.  Then I recalled when I was a kid she used to feed a pregnant stray Siamese cat.  Funny how I can recall that but don't remember what took place a few weeks ago.

The cat is always here so I found it odd that she did not show up at all Saturday - March 24th. She did come around yesterday Sunday where it was obvious she had given birth to her litter.  I have no idea where they might be or how many she had...only time will tell.

It has been hot and windy. This morning we got a little rain which was sorely needed.  However, we are expecting severe weather this Tuesday and Wednesday between here and San Antonio.  I am not so worried about the rain but the hail that is predicted.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Power Outage

Finally had some time to spend surfing the web this afternoon only to have it cut short by a power outage. While this is nothing new in the area my mother lives, it was surprising to find out that it was countywide. Power was out from Laughlin Air Force Base (LAFB) to Comstock, Texas.

We received a satellite call from the City of Del Rio, twenty minutes after power had been restored advising the population that parts of Lake Amistad area were still without electricity. They urged us not to call 911 unless it was a true emergency.

I chose the wrong day to try to acclimate my system to drinking coffee again. For those new to my blog...coffee is not my friend...it makes me nervous and jittery. You might ask yourself..." then why do you drink it? "  I drink it because if I don't, I tend to want to fall asleep when I drive long distances.

Since my mother's fall and subsequent back problems, we have not had to drive to San Antonio, however, we have an upcoming trip to that city.  I currently have a headache and I feel like vomiting.  Tried to take a nap during the outage but was unable to do so. It would have been an excellent opportunity to get some yard work done but decided to pass...though I know full well it will come back to bite me :-(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

March 2018 trip to Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila - México

Mother got up very early this morning so we decided to take advantage of this and go run some errands in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila - México.

Mailing things to México from the USA is expensive and your package may or may not get there. Not because of the USPS but due to corrupt employees in the Mexican Postal Service who open mail and packages, in particular, those from the USA.

This past December I mailed my uncle an over-sized Christmas card which he did not receive until mid-February.  For all practical purposes, I thought it was lost, I am surprised it arrived at all.  My uncle wanted me to mail him some items so I headed to the Mexican Post Office only to find it was closed.

Headed to the bank and it was closed as well. Asked a gentlemen coming out of the ATM booth why the bank was closed and he said it was a long holiday weekend commemorating the birth of Benito Juarez (a beloved Mexican President of indigenous origin).

Headed to the north part of Ciudad Acuña to Aurrera (owned by Walmart) for a grocery run. Prices have gone up quite a bit since my last visit but then again they have as well in Del Rio.  Overall I saved a lot of money.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

A nice visit with Barney

This afternoon I made my way to San Pedro Campground part of the Amistad National Recreational Area. This campground does not have as many campers as the others so I was happy to see that there were several RV's, tents and a pop-up camping van making good use of the facilities.

It is always gratifying to meet up with fellow bloggers that I have been following for many years. Barney is a walking encyclopedia on West Texas and beyond and loves to share his knowledge with others. We had a very nice visit.

Summer weather is already upon us, we have been experiencing temperatures in the low 90's. The only saving grace has been the strong winds making things a little more bearable.  We really need some rain.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Oh noooooo...she is pregnant!!!

The stray white cat that has adopted mother's house has never been like skinny as one would expect from a stray.  I do not feed her, I only provide her with water.  I am a cat person but I have never had a female cat.  I take that back, nine years ago the neighbors moved out and abandoned their cat, a very cute cat and I adopted her, even had her fixed only to have her get run over a short time later.

This cat thinks she is a dog...she follows me everywhere.  When I am hanging up laundry on the clothesline she will rub against me.  She has started to look a little wide around the middle and then she flipped over and I saw she had eight little pink things...what would one call them...cat titties?  I am not ready for this, I already have enough on my plate to add kittens to the mix :-(

The time change has affected my mother this year.  She does not want to get up at the new time and that gives me an excuse to go back to bed.  Neither one of us are morning people unless we have an early doctor's appointment or have to travel to San Antonio.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Too early for 94 degree weather

Yesterday I paid the price for not having gone to HEB on Thursday.  People everywhere, the parking lot was jammed packed with vehicles pulling trailers, RV's and people obviously on their way to their Spring Break destinations.  Made me wonder how many might be heading out to Terlingua.

Del Rio is the last big town on Highway 90 West (that sounds hilarious) between here and El Paso. It has been a long time since I have seen most of the checkout registers open. Contemplated filling my car up but there were long lines at the pump practically everywhere. Del Rio has grown so much, it is not the same sleepy border town it was when we moved here so many moons ago.

It was a good thing the house was still cool from last night because this afternoon it got to 94 degrees, a bit too early for summer temperatures or for turning on the A/C.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Not much going on

Needed to make a trip to town but just did not get around to it. Maybe tomorrow?

We had a lot of wind today but otherwise a nice sunny afternoon. The darn white cat is still around and she will not leave me alone. I was outside when I saw her coming from the vacant lot in back of mother's house with something on her mouth.  It did not take long to realize it was a baby mouse which she proceeded to eat in our yard!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I must admit I did not have high hopes for the game this evening between us and the Golden State Warriors. I am very proud of them, we played a darn good game and even lead for a while. Though we lost by three points I do not feel bad about it.

GO SPURS GO!!!!!!

Mail Clutter / Mall / Whataburger

Had to go down to the post office to mail some bills and pick up our mail.  I have signed up for e-bills wherever I can in order to manage our mail clutter.  However, I do not seem to be getting anywhere.  The main culprits are Triple-A, AARP, my credit union, my automobile insurance company and darn flippers supposedly wanting to make me an offer on my Houston house.

My next stop was the main branch of my bank. Pulled into the parking lot and it was packed, as you know I stay away from lines or crowded places. They have a branch at the local mall that has little foot traffic so chose this option.

I hardly ever go inside the mall. The only stores I frequent there are Ross and Marshalls and you do not have to go inside the mall to access them. I decided to pay Ross a visit but walked the mall.  I was so surprised that there were so many stores that have gone out of business. The few that are still open had few people...sad :-(

It was four o'clock and I had not eaten breakfast or lunch so decided to treat myself to a mushroom burger at Whataburger...I know, I am not supposed to eat at fast food joints...but I did anyway, it was delicious and I do not feel the least bit guilty about it.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I love my Spurs but sometimes they drive me crazy. This was a game we HAD to WIN!  I am glad we pulled it off but I really sweated the last two minutes.

We have a very tough upcoming schedule, so I am keeping my fingers crossed...GSG!!!

Toyota / Walmart / Roku TV

Finally made the time to take my car to the Toyota dealership for servicing.  They are undergoing a renovation and only had folding steel chairs in the waiting room, after two hours your tush starts hurting.

I have mentioned that these days HEB seems to be crowded at all hours so after I left Toyota, I stopped at Walmart instead. It would never cross my mind to go grocery shopping on a Friday or on a weekend but I was in and out in no time flat.

Yesterday we had strong winds and the television kept on freezing up on me and here I thought once I got rid of worthless DISH those problems would end but it happens even with Spectrum on regular days.

The volume on my Roku television that is less than one year old keeps on going out, however I did not buy an extended warranty so I will have to suck it up because I refuse to purchase another one.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
