Sunday trip to Walmart / $2.99 gasoline

Clink on the photos to enlarge

Last week I ordered two items online at Walmart.com since the lower price was applicable only if you happen to order that way. It initially told me I would not receive it until this Wednesday Sept 28th but got an email Friday afternoon that I could go pick it up at the local Walmart. My order was spilt into two and Saturday afternoon got an email that the other item had been delivered to my P.O. Box.

I am not crazy to go to Walmart on a Saturday afternoon so opted for Sunday morning and glad I did since there were few customers at that time. I had no idea that they had closed the counter where you could walk in and pick up your order. You now have to park in a designated area in the back left side of the building and call them to let them know you have arrived. You can also check in with their App but I don't have it and do not plan to get it.

I was running low on bread, salad, avocados, and raisins for my cereals so decided to go inside. Last month I had bought some marked down salads and I was surprised how much I liked them. This morning they only had one so I snapped it up.

Earlier this month I had bought a mesh bag of 6 small avocados for $2.98 that same bag now only had 5 small avocados for $2.66 or .53 cents each which is still a good deal.

The prepper channels urge you to buy tomatoes as they will be in short supply. I prefer to buy canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce...even the cheap brands have gone up in price.

I have never heard of this brand

Hunt's was expensive...

I had no idea that Ragรบ made so many different kinds of spaghetti sauce...

Extra Virgin Olive Oil...is getting pricier, I am glad I bought some earlier this year for my salads.

The butane stove I want is five dollars cheaper online but if I have gone without one for 26 years I suppose I do not need one now.

Butane canisters are also expensive...

I had to smile when I saw this bag...

Good idea but when I buy wine it is usually in a cardboard box ๐Ÿ˜„ I read glass to make beer and wine bottles is also in short supply. The Del Rio Recycling Center will not take glass but you can recycle cardboard.

The last time I was here they had very little inventory of water. This morning they had plenty but it was of the 32 and 40 bottle packs. While I can get a worker or a customer to help me place it in my shopping cart or in my vehicle...who is going to help me to get it down at home...the cats?

Eggs have gone down in price...$2.57 for a dozen large eggs. Decided to buy some Jimmy Dean Delights breakfast bowls instead.

I did not buy much but still spent $37.76 ...

I got a chuckle from this license plate...Mr. DC...a politician perhaps?

Gasoline has finally gone under $3.00 a gallon though I have no idea for how long.

It was a wasted weekend as I could not motivate myself to do much needed yardwork. This morning to my surprise it rained for a while and I did not even have my water catchment tubs in place.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Is anyone else as stressed out as I am?

I have not seen at least on the blogs I read any mention of being stressed out or discussion about our current financial climate. I watch a lot of cable news channels but I find that I get better news on believe it or not YouTube.

You have preppers, financial advisors, successful business people, as well as regular citizens like you and me showing us empty shelves, rising prices, and what items they are buying before they are no longer available.

If you have been reading me for a while you know I usually keep a three-month food supply at the house which during the Covid-19 pandemic increased to 6 months and when the inflationary period began I increased to an 8-month supply. While the house sits on a large parcel of land...the house is not that big and I have no room for more prepping. ๐Ÿ˜ž

The stock market took another hit today and I do not even want to go online to see what it did to my 401-K as it would only compound my anxiety. At least in the 2008 downturn, I had time to recoup...this time around I do not hold out much hope as they are predicting a worse decline. This is not just in the USA but globally so please abstain from any partisan BS. My beloved Argentina is suffering from the highest inflation in three decades...in August 2022 it was 78.5%...so I don't have any room to complain.

I follow several financial channels but my favorite is Dan's I Allegedly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw2bDmiuIXw

He gives us our daily dose of bad news but at least he chooses nice backdrops to lessen the blow.

I told my uncle in March to start prepping but for some reason he as well as my friends think "I am crazy and/or that I exaggerate". Dan as well as other YouTube channels have been trying to wake us up to reality but if one does not want to listen...what can I do? Nothing...at least I tried to warn them.

We are now in Fall but the temperatures in my part of the world have not gotten the memo. It was 92 degrees today but it beats the triple digits.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

How can it already be Wednesday?

How can it already be Wednesday when just a couple of days ago it was the weekend? I used to love Wednesdays better known as hump day now I dread it because it also happens to be trash day and that means I have to tend to the yard so everything can be hauled away. At least in Houston, we had trash pick up twice instead of once weekly in Val Verde County.

Due to the torrential rains a couple of weeks ago, the weeds have grown exponentially. In some places, they reach four feet high and are rather dense. After the terrible experience with the last worthless yardman last December I have no desire to hire anyone else. Those that have been reading me for a while know that I have a terrible track record of hiring people that lack a good work ethic.

I have been using garden shears to trim the weeds and to hopefully force myself to put together the new weedeater I bought four months ago and that is still sitting unopened in its box. That brings to mind that I still have never put together or used my electric lawnmower...maybe next year?

Thanks to the cloud cover I was able to work on the yard until noon yesterday. My arms hurt so much afterward that I fell asleep watching the ten o'clock news.

The neighbor's worthless drunk son moved back home but this time without his family but with two dogs. One of the darn dogs he takes out every morning and ties him to their fence where it proceeds to bark none stop...same happens in the afternoon. It better not happen at night because I am calling the authorities!

Worthless drunk has not gone to work since he moved in. I do not know how his mother and stepfather put up with him he is 35 or 36 years old.

San Antonio may break a record tomorrow or Friday if it reaches 100 degrees. They are watching a tropical development and hoping it comes their way.

While not in the triple digits we have been in the low to mid-90s and tomorrow it just might reach 100 degrees.  I was watching some of my lady vandweller videos and people are already heading down to Quartzsite, Arizona for the winter to obtain the best camping spots but are finding it is still quite warm.

Good night. May you have Terlingua Dreams.

It has been a busy week...

It has been a busy week and anytime I have to walk a lot, I end up very tired due to my plantar fasciitis and have to go to bed early. This is not a bad thing when you suffer from chronic insomnia. I have therefore not been able to make any new posts at the end of the day. I have also been concentrating on my other blog where I document important things about my cats so I can have that information readily available in one location.

I went to get my labs done on Tuesday and was glad I chose to go close to noon when there was hardly anyone there. Lucked out as well that I got a lab technician that did not prick the heck out of me like the last time.

Ollie's bought out the inventory of a plastic container supplier and since it was a short distance from the clinic headed that way.

I should have come last week as most of their stock was gone...

They had a lot of fall stuff...

Ended up only buying disposable gloves so I can use the computers at the library as I can not find the box I had during the height of the Covid pandemic. Good price as well...

Swung by Walmart and filled up. Unleaded was selling for $3.129 a gallon and $4.459 for diesel. I did not notice this little black car as I was trying to focus the camera on the price signs. It wasn't until I started sorting the pictures at home that I saw it. Does anyone have any idea what kind of vehicle it is?

Wednesday I went to take my cats to the vet in Mexico. If you care to read more about that you can go to my other blog Walter's World by clicking on my header picture or my Profile.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Feast or Famine / Little Blood Suckers / Marina closed

I do not know why it is always feast or famine in my little part of the world. After months of a severe drought, we are getting heavy downpours daily. The worst kind is those that occur in the middle of the night, such as last night.

I suppose I should be happy as it has kept the people that drive out to the county (where it is legal) to pop fireworks to remain in their homes within the city limits. Only Thursday did I hear a few.

I took a day off from the computer yesterday and binged watched some of my favorite HGTV shows. How I wish there were people you could trust in Del Rio to make home repairs and minor remodeling jobs. Sadly, in all these years we have not found any...the same goes for Houston.

It was inevitable that the little blood suckers would sooner or later make their presence known and today I was bitten by those darn mosquitoes. I spent most of the morning dumping standing water but there are pools of water everywhere as the ground is saturated by all the recent rains.

We have 326 new Covid-19 cases bringing the active positive cases to 726. They are comprised of 140 children from 1 to 9 years of age. There are another 140 youngsters ages 10 to 19 years old. There is no one hospitalized locally. The numbers are down a bit from the last report. https://www.zocalo.com.mx/reportan-326-nuevos-contagios-de-covid/

When I drove to the lake last weekend I forgot to mention that the Marina is closed. I do not know the details as I had not been there in at least a year.

There was only one boat that remains anchored at this facility...

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Damaged country roads / Walmart

I had to drive to the post office this afternoon and noticed there was a lot of damage on the country roads due to the recent rains. They were already bad to begin with, now they are terrible. Even the city streets had a new crop of potholes.

As I passed Chick-fil-A all the purple sage blooms were gone I suppose due to the Monday storms. I was going to go to Ollie's but decided to first pass by Walmart to check their gasoline prices. Found it to be the same as HEBs and equally busy. My long-time readers know that I will NOT wait in long lines.

I wanted to stop at Dairy Queen for a tasty meal but decided to bite the bullet and instead went inside Walmart and bought two large bags of salad. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Found two family-size bags that were discounted. To my surprise, they tasted pretty good. ๐Ÿ‘

I wanted to buy an onion but they were expensive and sad looking...

The price of a dozen eggs has gone down but I still passed.

I cruised the camping aisle hoping that this Coleman Butane Stove had been discounted but it had not...I may still purchase it for my future camping trips...will give it another month.

At least they had plenty of butane canisters as in some of the Prepper Channels I watch they are warning their viewers to stock up on them.

Today was mostly cloudy and humid with a high of only 88 degrees. The six o'clock news mentioned that in Alpine, Texas it was 64 degrees. For those not familiar with Texas...Alpine is 80 miles from Terlingua.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
