I had forgotten my online password but I was so mad that it automatically came to me. The so called special I signed up for last year ends this month. Basic cable and internet went up to $163.45 including tax. Are they nuts? That is more than double what I have been paying...$87.48 more to be exact.
My main gripe is why did they not inform me before of this drastic increase in prices? It was midnight but they have a 24 hour line so I called. The girl I got, I could barely understand her English and when I did understand what she was saying their darn telephone line was so poor I could hardly hear!
She was trying to make me bundle my services and offered me 200 extra channels including HBO and internet for $141.99. I don't think so...told her she had to come up with something better than that or I would be canceling my service. She asked if she could call me back today at 5:00 p.m. with other offers and I agreed. You guess it...she never called.
I have not received the physical bill yet so I went online to show my mother. That is when I noticed that I had an appointment for a technician to come on October 11th...the date my contract ends. What the heck is going on? Did the
At this point I am so mad I could care less. My mother only watches Lawrence Welk re-runs and I only watch the Weather Channel and the news. I watch my Brazilian soap operas for free since they are beamed to the border from Mexico City and anyway my soap ended last week.
If I want to check my e-mail, I can always go to the library. It is not a matter of money, it is the fact that they basically have a monopoly in this area and they can and do as they please. How can they more than double my bill without any prior notice?
So if you do not see me online after Saturday, you know what happened.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
$163 is a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteAre there other internet options?
Where we lived in WA it was Comcast or dial-up and here in the RV we have been getting 20gb for $90 with a Hotspot. That seems like a lot but we spend a lot of time on-line.
Other options are dial-up, Cricket air card and Dish TV or something like that but mother does not want a satellite dish on her roof.
DeletePut the dish on the ground, seen them that way.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen them on the ground before but that would be option.
DeleteI bet I would have the same problem with Verizon that I had with Cricket, very slow connection because we live on the southern tip of the county which is on the edge of their service area.
ReplyDeleteLol, I have never heard of TengoInternet but I like the nick you gave them...No Tengo Internet...jajajajaja
Thanks, need to hurry up and explore all my options.
I'm looking into buying a grandfathered Verizon unlimited data plan and using my daughter's old smart phone. At least that way I would have internet where ever I go, and the bill would drop considerably since I'm currently paying almost $90 a month both in TN and in MN for satellite internet.
ReplyDeleteI do not own a cell phone much less a smart phone, so do not really know how that works.
DeleteI hope you can get something satisfactory, but all the services are alike. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, and then double your payment without warning. I now have AT&T TV and internet service for a little less than $140 a month, but that's way too much for a retired person to be paying. I could get it cheaper but the programs I watch (science & history) are all on the upper tiers of service and cost more. I'm glad I'm not hooked up and addicted to a smart phone!
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Houston, I had AT & T and I was very happy with their service, then again I only had internet. I have never had cable in Houston.
DeleteYou are right, they will promise you the moon and after your contract is up they jack up their prices. My main gripe is that I was not forewarned.

ReplyDeleteWanted to tell you I also had horrible experiences with those TWC crooks but U-verse was no better - I bailed after their last increase to $90 for mid range plan. Soon as I cancelled I got offers for $29/mo. You will too! I am saving $$$ with rabbit ears and computer generated through my TV but maybe Del Rio can't pick up what I can? Good luck, ssis! And Go SPURS Go!!!!
DeleteI am pretty sure they will offer some reasonable prices once I cancel their service because up to this point I am not liking their offers.
DeletePeople along the border as well as in surrounding towns have no access to free TV like in the big cities. In Del Rio if you do not have cable...well you have a blank television screen.
For about twenty years now the two largest networks in Mexico beam their signal to the border and we are able to see their programming for free. Of course that only works for people who speak Spanish like mother and I.
We will see what happens Sb....GSG :)
