Same old, same old...

Just when I thought I was finally going to be able to write about something that wasn't "same old, same old"...the "We Love New York Homecoming Concert" that took place this afternoon at Central Park was cut short during Barry Manilow's performance as it was carried live on CNN. The hope was that it would restart at 10:00 p.m. but it has now been canceled due to the rain and lightning caused by Hurricane Henri.

The line-up was going to be comprised of A star celebrities that rivaled the line-up of the most famous concert of all time...Woodstock...and was touted as such.  They included Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Jennifer Hudson, Earth Wind, and Fire, Maluma, and many others whose names I do not recall. It was scheduled to last 5 hours but at 2 hours and 37 minutes, it had to be halted.

So guess what?  If you are still reading me...you are stuck with the same old, same old! 😁

Yesterday morning I was once again bitten by a Wasp/Hornet as apparently two large cans of Spectricide were not enough for these pests. They are everywhere even on the trees, garage/carport, as well as the back and side porch.

I woke up early Saturday morning to what I thought was a mosquito bite but upon further inspection was a swollen and reddish arm.  I have no idea why I had such an itch unless something else bit me in the same location though I doubt it.

Monday I finally went to see the doctor after they re-scheduled my appointment. The line to get into the clinic was long as you had to fill out a questionnaire, get your temperature checked, and then be given a wristband that tells the personnel you have been checked.

Only one nurse was manning the door until they brought out additional personnel to speed up the process. There was this lady and her kid (about four years old) in front of me whom you could not help but notice was wearing diapers. I overheard that he had had severe diarrhea since the prior day so I panicked thinking he had the Delta variant. They did not let him in they told his mother the doctor would come outside to see him.

As I have mentioned before we do not have a local newspaper just a weekly printed edition by a local citizen who took on the challenge to inform the community. Our county went Red in the last election and the local school district is following Greg Abbott's (the governor of Texas) mandate to make masks optional for students (idiots). The only exception is when they are traveling on a school bus or other school vehicle.

According to The 830 Times as of the publishing date of August 18th, there were 33 active Covid-19 cases in the 0 to 9 age group and 73 active cases in the 10 to 19 age group.

Per the Mexican newspaper El Zocalo, these numbers have alarmed local authorities as we have 441 active Covid-19 cases of which 106 are minors.  For a small town, those are a lot of cases.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. There is no excuse for a child getting Covid - it's the fault of an adult, in my opinion.

  2. Glad to see you are back. I know what you mean about the same song and dance.
I was sorry to hear about your wasp and hornet problem. There are so many critters that can and will attack you in that country and not just the politicians! I have some serious concerns about what is going on both in Texas and in every state going to and including Florida. More than meets the eye and then like manic, we abruptly pull out of Afghanistan and it is a replay of the fall of Saigon. I feel like I am in a disaster movie and no one is coping with the challenges.
And these crazy floods everywhere, not to mention the fires. People are going nuts and the price of groceries is just amazing. I just can't see a happy ending here. I do see things starting to snowball.
But enough of my rant. Stay safe my friend.

    1. What gets to me is that many people have been sounding the alarm bells none more so than Rachel Maddow who has been exposing the problem with the backlog of visas for Irakis and Afghanistans for months. She has had an untold number of veterans lobbying on behalf of their interpreters on her nightly show who in many cases had their lives saved by these courageous men.

The pull-out of our troops as well as of our American citizens was so poorly executed. CNN has an excellent international correspondent a lady named Clarissa Ward who has been reporting from the front lines for fifteen years. She speaks seven languages and graduated from Yale. With all her experience I bet given the opportunity she could have executed a better plan for exiting Afghanistan.

The current administration says there is no comparison to the fall of Saigon when helicopters were swooping people off of the American Embassy rooftop...the hell it isn't the same! I watch a lot of media except for those lying far-right idiot channels and all of them had side by side comparison photos. I guess...do not believe your lying eyes? That sounds Trumpian to me...grrrr!

Our country is facing so many challenges and I am not hopeful for what the future has in store for us.

Your rants are welcomed in my blog :-) You stay safe as well Amiga.

  3. Glad you are back even if you think it's the Same Old Same Old it is called "Life". Whether others find it interesting your Blog is how you document what is happening in your life.
Masks do help stop the spread.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. I have one rule if it bores me and it's my life imagine how others must feel. Thankfully, since the pandemic began I went back to handwriting on a daily journal that I can always have access to even without electricity or a computer.

  4. So did any medical person actually look at your arm?? I guess you're OK as you posted this! Sheesh. Yes, all the numbers about covid in TX are awful. But what can we expect. https://twitter.com/traecrowder/status/1425896142672326656?s=11

    1. I have watched this guy on YouTube and he is hilariously right on! Also like Hal Sparks for his informed but snarky comments on this side show we call politics.

    2. JudithK why do you always want to send me to the doctor? My clinic closes at noon on Fridays and does not open until Monday.

On Saturday I went to pick up my prescriptions at HEB and I asked to talk to the pharmacist. He told me that 24 hours had already passed but the next time I got bit to get some mud and apply it to the sting area to neutralize the venom...that it was an old Indian remedy. I gave him one of my "get real looks" and it snapped him back to reality...he suggested I buy some Benadryl which I did.

I am surprised I was able to see that video as I do not have a Twitter account.

    3. Well I dunno. I guess if you mention things like a swollen arm, I don't know what the hell to do. Hope the bendaryl helped.
Meanwhile, glad you could open the video. You didn't say if you liked it, but I hope you did!!

  5. Sure happy to see a post from you it's been a while. Covid is back here also due to the MORON'S WHO REFUSE TO GET VACCINATED!!!

People have been buying Hot Shot for wasps and hornets and it is doing the job for them. It know comes as a foam which makes it much more effective. Seems they are terrible this year in most states.

    1. The only ones I feel sorry for are the children under 12 who are not able to be vaccinated and whose idiot parents want them to go maskless to school.

It may sound harsh but if the adults perish I have no sympathy for them as they made the choice to not get vaccinated.

The Spectracide I bought does come in foam which is more effective than the old kind that was just like liquid spray. I was not aware that there was a problem in other states with those nasty wasps and hornets.

    2. I use Spectracide on my weeds and have for years but never knew they had that spray.
