Cats / Crows / Leilani / Popular Places / Whataburger

Even though I went to bed early (for me) I was wide awake by 4:30 a.m. Managed to go back to sleep until the cats running on the roof woke me up again.  I ignored them until I heard the crows going crazy and I knew one of the cats had once again gotten a hold of another bird. One of these days those mean crows are going to peck one of the boys to death!

Needed to mail a card and make some more copies so headed to the library. Today was not as humid as yesterday and only reached 89 degrees.

I was sure I had brought the card I was going to mail with me but seems I somehow left it at home...darn CRS!!!  Now I will have to make a return trip tomorrow...oh well :-(

Only when I go to the library do I actually get to read the Del Rio News Herald.  Leilani, if you are reading me you are in luck.  I had mentioned on a prior post that the local newspaper holds an annual survey of the best of a long list of things in our town...such as:

Breakfast Tacos
Regular Tacos
Bar-b-q
Barbacoa (it is different from bar-b-q)
Fajitas
Hamburgers
Menudo
Pizza
Seafood
Soups
Steaks...everything food
Doctors
Nurses
Bartenders
Mechanics...you get the point

Leilani wanted to see if I could recommend a local place that made good tacos but apart from Stripes I had no idea as I seldom frequent restaurants other than fast food joints.  Here are three recommendations of recent winners courtesy of the Del Rio News Herald.

Speaking of Fast Food joints I was famished as I only had eaten cereal for breakfast so decided to head to Wendy's to cool off with one of their .50 cents Frosty.  On the way there I saw a practically empty parking lot at Whataburger something odd at 6:00 p.m.  Decided to forgo my Frosty and indulge in a Monterey Melt instead.

Since I have no idea how to insert a watermark in my pictures...what better way to personalize my photo than with my Betty Boop purse in the background :D

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

The purse I wasn't meant to have :-(

The most important things yesterday were mother's dental appointment and the much needed trip to the hairdresser's.  I asked her dentist for a referral to a dermatologist and his nurse was nice enough to give me all the relevant information including his fee of $500.00 Mexican pesos.

Exchange Rate Alley had different rates as you can see
Due to the volatility of the peso...your dollar goes a long ways there right now.  $500.00 pesos at an exchange rate of $14.35 would be $34.84 in American currency.  With bridge tolls it would be about $40.00 US dollars.  It sure beats having to drive to Uvalde where my current nurse practitioner wanted to refer me.

I am sure you are wondering what the heck does that have to do with a purse?  I'm getting to that :)

I stopped to pick up some items at Aurrera (owned by Walmart) and I went by that kiosk that sells Betty Boop purses.  They had a very unique and not seldom seen design.  I so wanted it!  Problem was that it cost $500.00 pesos and I had it earmarked for the dermatologist :-(

So what is a girl to do?  Well, go back to Mexico today of course!  Only problem was that they sold the purse I wanted...I guess, I just was not meant to have it :-(

For those new to my blog...Tuesday is Fruit and Vegetable day...at most supermarkets in Mexico.  So the trip wasn't a total loss.  Since yesterday, I have spotted a lot of older gentlemen in bicycles.  Saw an acquaintance riding his to Mexico.

I so wanted to take a picture of one of the older gentlemen but he was too fast me.  By the time I got my camera out...he was gone!  So I had to settle for a guy whose shade set-up I admire and have featured in my blog before.  They realized I was snapping their photo (blush)!

Unlike yesterday there was a long line going into Mexico this afternoon.

As well as a line going back to the United States.

Usually when there are long lines, the Mexicans take the opportunity to pedal their wares knowing that US Customs will not report them to police.

They sell anywhere from ice cream, sodas, to hats and pictures of the last supper and everything in between.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

For the love of Betty

My back is feeling much better so decided to take advantage of that and drive to town to pick up Mom's medication.  I like to go early to avoid the long afternoon lines at the pharmacy.  Lucky for me there was only one person in front of me.  When I was signing for the medicine the lady clerk said, "So you like her too!"

I had no idea what she was talking about and I guess the blank look on my face said as much.  She said "you like Betty Boop! "  Then I knew what she meant because I was wearing my Betty Boop t-shirt and had my Betty Boop purse with me :)

She was wearing a white zipped smock and she unzipped it so I could see her Betty Boop shirt!  Lol...I guess there are lots of us that are crazy about this cute doll!  I had never seen the design she was wearing before...so I asked her where she had purchased it and she said online.  Need to go check it out before they start charging tax for online purchases...I am not too happy about that :-(

What I am happy about is that gas prices have been going down.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
