Who is to say...who is the winner?

Seven days into 2017...I am finally able to make a post!  To be totally honest with my readers...I have no idea how I even have a blog!!!

To refreshen your memory, I got my computer out of my bedroom along with my big screen television set, in order to get some very needed sleep. Did it work?  Of course, it did...that is why I have not had a chance to make even one post thus far.

Not to give total credit to being able to go to sleep at a normal hour without being able to make a post, but the Val Verde County Library played a big role on this as well.  You see, the library has been undergoing a remodelling for two plus years and it is still not completed.

Wanting to use their computers, called them last week only to get a voice recording saying that they would "tentatively" be opened for business on January 3rd.  Drove by there on Friday, January 6th only to be told by a construction worker that the library would be closed until further notice.

Of course, my DISH TV and the Internet have been having fits only because the temperature dropped well below freezing...just four more months until this darn two-year contract is over...actually until the Spurs season comes to an end that this DISH nightmare will be over and done with!

We have had our hands full.  Only in the first days of January, we have had three doctors appointments with two of them being out-of-town.

Today, I said goodbye to my diet and went out and bought me some menudo. The place I purchase it from makes the best in Del Rio, except for today...they piled on the salt! Obviously, some new employee made it.

Menudo / Barbacoa / Claire

Decided I needed to eat a good breakfast so I could focus on the task at hand...taxes :(     Mother lives in the southern part of the county so it is a long drive to the north of the city where the national fast food chains are located.  No problem, we have Taco Riendo a locally owned little restaurant not far from her house.

I had my sights set on a bowl of menudo, but lord and behold they sold out and it was still early :-(
What to do?  Went to check out a Carniceria (Meat Market) close to the laundromat I always go to but they were out too!  Darn, it wasn't even that late.....I have purchased menudo up until 10:30 a.m. before!

I could have probably gotten some in town but I settled for some barbacoa instead.  If you have never tasted barbacoa...you have no idea what you are missing.  I know this picture does not do it justice and it might even make it less appealing but trust me...it tastes delicious.  I cooked me a scrambled egg, chopped some onions, jalapenos and cilantro...warmed up some corn tortillas and had me a scrumptious breakfast. :D

All afternoon we were warned of a rain event but where mother lives she only received .04 of an inch.  The other day Captain Joey asked me about Claire the mare.  I had not seen her at her owners or his son's house but I saw her today back by the Duck Pond.  Will write a post on my other blog.  If you care to read it just click on my header picture and it will take you there.

A/C came back on

After what had been wonderful mild days...the heat has once again made its presence felt.  It got to 95 degrees and the following days promise to be just as hot.  So the A/C came back on.

Decided I needed a treat for all the work I have done lately but did not want to drive into town (we live in the county).  Went to an old favorite down the road...El Taco Riendo for some menudo.

Don't judge a book by its cover or its old sign...they have very good food here.

Since it is not very far from the house and I had not driven dad's old car in a couple of days went for a ride around the neighborhood.  There is a house that is being built that intrigued me because it has no foundation and is being built on a platform.

Wonder if something like this would work in Terlingua, but in a much smaller scale for myself?  Guess I have a couple more years to consider all the options.
