My Tex-Mex Origins

Set the alarm to 6:00 a.m. but for some reason I have been wide awake since 4:00 a.m.  Belinda, why in the world would you want to get up so early?  Actually I wouldn't...but Fibromyositis tends to do that, to us suffering from it :-(

So what is a girl to do at this hour? Well,.one can go online and use up all the available "Off Peak Internet" I had left!

What better way to do that, than sign on to YouTube and listen to the music that took me back to my origins...Tejano Music, also known as Chicano Music back in the 80's..

You see...I grew up in Austin, Texas, a "real city"...where I was able to listen to the top 40 hits.in the nation. Was surprised that when we moved to Del Rio, a small border town in the late 60's, that I would also have that alternative available to me.

The seventies was the decade that defined me as a person.  It is the era that I came into adulthood. It has always been of special significance to me...in particular my days as a "Disco Duck"...something that makes others cringe, but I must say brought great happiness to my life.

When Disco died...a small part of me died as well.  Then I discovered Chicano music or like some like to call it...Tejano Music.  It would be a feat to try to explain that to someone.  Only if you grew up in Texas or in other cities with heavy Mexican-American concentration that you could understand what this means.

This evening I have been listening to Conjunto Bernal, Bobby Naranjo y Direccion, Josefa Band, Jesse Serrata, Carlos Guzman and so many other old school Tejano greats. For some unknown reason...music has always taken me back to the old days of my youth, when I had what I thought was "a perfect life".

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Cordless telephone mailing mystery

We had an overcast, windy and should I say rainy (?) day...well perhaps not rainy...but officially we received .02 of an inch.  It only reached 86 degrees / 30 Celsius and that in and of itself is unheard of during July...at least for this part of the state.

I really need help organizing all my stuff.  To that end I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos but so far have not taken any action.

If you are an NBA fan, like I happen to be, the big news today was that Lebron James is headed back to Cleveland.  Must say that I did not expect that but one can't blame the man for wanting to go back home to try to bring a championship title to his home state.

I tried to order two cordless telephones from Target and when I got ready to check-out a message appeared that Texas does not allow phones to be sent in the mail...WTH?  Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
