Three days off

Got an e-mail from a friend of mine congratulating me for the Spurs advancement to the second round of the playoff.  They remarked that I now had three days off to relax...not really I replied, I now have to catch up on all the things I put off because I also follow other teams and stay up late to watch the rebroadcasts.

Got up early Saturday and was the first person at the laundromat. I used two Maxi machines which is the equivalent to four regular loads, so I did eight loads and that was just mother's stuff, have to make some time to tackle my own.

The winds have been fierce and we actual had a cold front move through the area which I am really enjoying. Last night I watched the Fiesta Flambeau Parade on TV.  This is the biggest night time parade in the world, maybe one day I will be able to be there in person.

KSAT12 has been covering Fiesta events all week. I love to see young and old having such a good time and they all have a smile on their face. People were sending tweets which appeared on the screen but since I don't know how to Tweet (sad, I know) I could not let them know how much I enjoy it.

With the winds the Internet has been spotty and I was dreading having to go to the library to make a payment. I briefly considered downloading the App but I am scared to death to make a payment from my cell.

Have been checking my multiple e-mail accounts and I unsubscribed from many publications, I seriously do not have time to read all that stuff.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I am glad we beat Memphis in 6 and did not have to have a game 7.  Tomorrow we face the Houston Rockets of which most of my friends are fans of.  It is not going to be easy but I have confidence in Pop and my Spurs. May the best team win.

  1. Best of luck to the Spurs! I have no idea how to tweet, or even shy. You want to send a message, send a message or write an email. Never did figure out the attraction of tweeting.

    1. The problem is that most TV shows, news, sports channels, even radio stations interface with their followers using Tweeter and Facebook.

I am not opposed to it, I just do not know how to use it.

  2. I don't tweet either, never have. Birds tweet!

  4. I must confess I'm a hard core twitter user. (I signed up ten years ago!) It's more of a group conversation, extremely clique-y, addictive & often a worthless time sink, so I get why other people are put off by it and probably should be put off by it. But it can be a good way to follow topics you're interested in - like the #SPURS! ;-)

    1. The Spurs are one of the big reasons I would like to learn how to tweet but I do not know anyone in my circle of friends who know how to use it.

I know there must be YouTube Videos out there that show you how but with this snail pace DISH internet a five minute video takes like 20 minutes to download with all the buffering :-(

    2. It's probably easier to use if you have a smart phone & download their app, but I use it on my laptop or tablets too (they have a desktop version in addition to their phone app that you go to like you would any web page.)

Just sign up (choose a handle/name & a password), go the that link I inserted up there ( #Spurs) There's a Log In menu on that & every page which also says "New to Twitter? Sign Up." Fill in a profile (you don't have to use any identifying info) & you're off to the races. If you have questions they have FAQ/help pages.

A # is a "hashtag", and you put that before the name of a topic you're interested in somewhere in your comment so that it will be inserted into that discussion as well as your own timeline (page with all the comments) where all of your comments appear or in your "mentions" where replies by others to you appear (you'll get a notification someone has replied to you) and in the timeline of the person you are commenting to if your are replying to someone, but you don't have to make it go in a public discussion with a #, you can just banter with friends & you can even "DM" direct message friends privately so that nobody else, even the other people who follow you will see it.

You can "follow" the people like the team & players & other fans you know who are interested in the topics you want to read comments from. You can search them in the box with the magnifying glass under their real names like Kawhi Leonard Spurs or [insert Argentinian soap opera star's name here] or under their twitter name if you know it.Click on their name and "follow", then their comments start coming to you.

Whew! Sorry, that all sounds unnecessarily complicated (I tried to explain too much at once) but the basics are very simple. After you sign up, you can just watch for a while or as long as you want to to get the hang of it. You don't ever have to comment at all if you don't want & just read what everybody's saying.

When you get comfortable later you can google more complex stuff like "How do I embed a video in my reply, etc" & there are dictionaries online that define twitter-centric slang words.

Really, it couldn't be easier. Submitting your first comment will feel weird, but that's the hardest thing you'll ever do there & it very quickly becomes like a quick rolling conversation where people exchange info, jokes, questions, gossip, pictures etc. It's a good tool for communicating among like-minded people during events & such & since you are a sports & telenovela/soap opera fan, I think you in particular may really like it. In fact, we may never hear from you again! LOL!

Fair Warning: It will probably seem chaotic at first to see all these comments scrolling by (on a phone at least), but you get used to the cadence & it's very addictive. I've gone on the wagon a few times only to start all over later. In fact, I no longer "follow" anyone now. I have my own system with a private list of people I know & I follow that, it's more organized IMHO & less time-consuming for me.But everybody's different.

If you have any question at all, just put it here in this thread in a reply to me so I can get an email notification & can answer as best as I can.

    3. Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me Leilani, though I must confess that it sounds a bit intimidating for someone as technologically challenged as myself.

  6. Au contrare - no sarcasm here! We do have em right where we want em. Got the "stink" game out of the way up front. Gave the Rox false confidence and now they will be complacent for game 2. SPURS will whup up on them tonite but still the false confidence thinking "we stole a game and their home court advantage". They expect to lose tonite. Then the carryover to game 3 where the SPURS win a squeeker. With their backs against the proverbial wall, the Rox win game 4. Then, it's a 3 game series with SPURS home court secured again. 20 years of Pop-ball has got me used to his nefarious ways. Plus he outcoaches D'Antoni - maybe not game 1 but the rest of the series. In Pop I Trust! GSG!!!!!

    1. Seeing him laying on the court was scary. When they had to carry him off, I knew the news would not be good.

I was so afraid during the Memphis Grizzlies series that one of our guys would have a season ending injury. Thought we had dogged a bullet but who knew it would happen against the Rockets though it could happen against any team.

I feel bad for him because he had turned back the hands of time and was playing like the Tony of his heyday.

  10. WOW - we win gm 3 after all. No Parker no problem! GSG! (I'll go back to original prediction and we "give" them gm 4.)

    1. I think the Rockets will win game 4, they have no choice. I am seeing this series go to a Game 7. We really played well last night and won it for Tony.

    1. I can see why you have not been there in a while, a 25-hour drive is a bit far.

If I am not being noisy how did you come to buy property all the way to Terlingua?

The closest Lowe's is in Eagle Pass, Texas a border town 60 miles south of Del Rio.

I do not have a follow button.

  13. looked in Tx for property for additional hog hunting. And area just caught my eye. quite, off grid type area. so i bought some ,Then boom, it was on tv, with badlands TX and death of Glenn, then later with tiny homes and a dome for rent., but was a good choice in case of a bug out if needed for govt collapse, may sound wacko, but its kinda like ins. better to have it then not.
