Replenishing my food stock

I usually keep three months' food stock but when the pandemic hit I doubled it to six months to keep from having to go to the store. Recently I started having car issues so I let it get down to a two-month supply and decided to remedy that situation.

Got up early to avoid the crowds and picked up quite a few things at HEB this morning. You do not know how much I regret having bought the turkey and ham back in November. We have a regular size freezer and it is taking up so much room not to mention all the frozen water bottles I keep just in case the power goes out as it often does in this sleepy border town.

A couple of days ago I went to The Dollar Tree to stock up on cereal, frozen vegetables, mushrooms, and cookies.  I so wanted buttered popcorn and chips but I made sure I ate beforehand and was able to maintain the little self-control I possess.

I have been with my cellphone carrier for five or six years and I have never upgraded my chunky smartphone. Wanting to be able to post better quality photos I finally got a new one but I am having all types of problems uploading them to my computer so until I figure it out I guess I will have a photoless blog.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  2. So glad to see a post from you. I was worried that you had either health or internet problems. Or you had run off with a TWC and were just having too good of a time to post. ;)
I agree it is a good time to stock up and add to all supplies when you can. The world is just getting crazier by the day, plus there are starting to be supply chain issues. I am not seeing empty shelves but I have noticed less of a selection with many groceries. The big bridge over I40 in Memphis is completely shut down due to one of the beams being cracked all the way through. So river barge traffic is backing up, as well.
I filled up with gas again. Prices going up steadily and the pipeline shutdown back east concerns me.
New phones are such a challenge. I feel sure you will be able to figure it out soon. Love Auntie Acid.
    Stay safe my friend.

    1. When I saw on TV that prices were going up due to inflation and that cereal prices, canned goods, and vegetables had also started climbing I made a beeline for Dollar Tree as these are my staples much like they are for Aunty Acid.

We are not having any supply issues and HEB is well stocked like they were during the pandemic. The only price increase was in my turkey hotdogs that went up from $1.44 to $1.50 a package a manageable .06 cent increase.

I did see more people at the gas pumps but not long lines and they never ran out of gas. HEB was selling regular gasoline for $2.69 a gallon and Stripes (now 7-11) had theirs for $2.79 a gallon.

Since I can not upload my pictures to the computer I decided to go back to my old phone which defeats the purpose of purchasing a new one. Wish my best friend's granddaughter lived close by as she is in charge of teaching and fixing her parents' and grandmother's electronic gadgets.

We are under a tornado watch, I just hope the power does not go out.

      Be safe as well amiga.

  3. Glad you're still there. Time to cook that turkey! Well, maybe not. I do like today's Aunty Acid. We're possibly due for bad weather tonight....hope things are calm down there. So far we've just had nice thunderstorms that have brought rain only. That may be over.

    1. We are under a Tornado Watch that could expire at 11:00 p.m. I am watching KENS-5 and they said there are strong storms all over Texas with lots of lightning strikes but not in the immediate Del Rio area...for now.

Hopefully, your area will not be adversely impacted.

  4. If we lived close by I would cook the turkey and ham for you. Then it could be cut up and frozen again but in smaller serving sized packages.
At least went out and bought some supplies. I need to go buy some clothes but was hoping to be able to order some tires first. Just can find the size I need. I couldn't even find it on the tires, maybe I should go out with a magnifier haha.

    1. Thank you JO, you are so sweet but unfortunately, we live 741 miles apart...so that turkey and ham will have to remain frozen for now :-(

I had no choice but to go buy some more food before the prices go up or we run out of food. At least you live in a large city and have your pick of stores...I am sure you will soon find the tire size you need.

    2. I bet it won't be long before we see food shortages here also with the excuse of gas shortages. My freezers are full and I have a pretty good store of dry goods and some canned items. I started buying extras when Covid hit.

    3. The gas pipeline is once again open it is a shame they had to pay 5 million dollars to the Russian hackers but in the scheme of things, I suppose it is a drop in the bucket for them.

Rachel Maddow did a story on the Tennessee bridge that Penelope referenced but they can circumvent traffic around it. What I am a little concerned about is the possibility of inflation but there is little to nothing that we can do about that.

I remember when you were having a hard time finding a freezer last year as the demand was greater than the supply but I think it is a good thing to have for a person like yourself that knows how to cook and then separates them into individual servings.

  5. I have lost my appetite so I haven;t needed to buy food for a while - of course, I still need some good snack items though! I HATE my cell phone. I'd gladly go back to a wall phone or one that sits on a table or desk. Push button or even dial would be fine with me. I really dislike the fact that no matter who you are talking to, they keep looking at their phones. It is so rude! I can't even find my phone the rare time that I need it!

    1. We still have a landline and have no plans to do away with it. I much prefer my push-button phone that sits on my desk or our old cordless phones scattered around the house.

It disgusts me to see people whether at doctor's waiting rooms, the grocery store, laundromat or anywhere looking down at their phones while their kids run around misbehaving and they are oblivious to anything but that darn phone screen.

  6. I usually email my photos to myself as an attachment, then download them to the computer.

    1. I have done that in the past but only could do one at a time as it would tell me it was too big. If I chose to make it smaller I was not able to make it larger once I received it.

However, with this new phone, it wants to send it to my G-mail account which would be fine if I only remembered what my password was so I could open it on my desktop.

I also think I have a malfunctioning USB port in my computer...I will figure it out eventually. Thank you for your input, Rob.

  7. OK. It's been more than a week now. Just checking on you. I do hope it's only that you have not been in the humor to post. But you've got us spoiled - usually you've had something up after a week. Are you getting tired of this? Hope not. But whatever as long as you are OK....

    1. Thank you for checking in on me JudithK it is appreciated. As you know I go online late at night as I am busy during the day. I am also an insomniac but something wonderful has been happening to me lately...I have been falling asleep during the ten o'clock news...never mind that then I am awake by 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. getting four or five hours of non-interrupted sleep is a luxury not known to me.

You are right in that I am getting tired of keeping up with my blog. Blogger makes constant changes aside from the trouble I have uploading pictures from the new phone.

I have wanted to make a post since Tuesday...maybe I will get around to posting it today? First I have to make a post on Walter's World.

I had a reader that once e-mailed me to say that I should not feel like a needed to make a daily post and also named several other blogs they felt could skip a day or two. I did not know how to take that but I felt they were trying to tell me that I was being repetitive and boring since the blogs they referenced were daily posters where I am not. The last thing I want to do is bore people.

In a couple of months, it will be ten years of blogging and it does get tiring especially when you don't go anywhere...
