Dollar Tree had already raised prices in Del Rio

The rain many parts of Texas have experienced this week has bypassed Del Rio or at least our part of Val Verde County. My rain catchment system has been empty for weeks. I also have two 32 gallon containers with City of Del Rio water which for those not familiar with this area is excellent and comes from San Felipe Springs. As I am typing this I am hearing thunder, lol!

The big non-political news today was that Dollar Tree would be carrying items worth more than a dollar. That did not come as a surprise as in Del Rio prices went up in May 2020 as written in a prior post  https://terlinguadreams.blogspot.com/2020/05/dollar-tree-no-longer-sells-things-for.html

Yesterday I made a quick trip to town to pick up the mail and a prescription at HEB. My intention was to also pick up a gallon of milk but ended up spending almost $80.00 because I went on an empty stomach.

At the pharmacy, they had several chairs set out when there usually are very few. I asked the clerk why there were so many people sitting there (thankfully all had masks on) she said they mostly were there for the Covid-19 shot which I was glad to hear.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Amazing how Dollar Stores have been carrying higher end products. They have to spread their wings.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. I suppose we were part of the test market...the $3 and 5 dollar items have had an acceptance at least here...I have bought several of them.

I will miss paying a dollar and now having to dish out $1.25 or $1.50 for the same items I have bought for years. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

  2. Oh I do hope you got some good rain. It's gone to the north of us and to the south of us, only just a bit. Oh well, well got a little.
I know the rule about never going to the grocery when you're hungry, but sometimes....it happens.

    1. I was laughing because just as I was writing last night's post about the rain skirting this area...it started lightning and thundering...it would only happen to me!

It rained on and off all night. We received between 1 to 2 inches, however, some San Antonio news stations said it was more. Frankly, I am too lazy to look it up.

I know the rule well but it seems I break it all the time :-(

  3. My daughter was just telling me about Dollar Tree having an isle of things ranging from $3 - $5. today I heard it on the news. I remember when you posted about the stores doing that in your area.
Hope you get some rain soon. Love Aunty Acid and the other too.

    1. I could not believe how the news was covered extensively in all the media yesterday. They had reporters outside stores in major cities all over the USA interviewing customers...at least it was a break from the political news.

We did receive ample rain that was much needed in the area. My rain catchment containers are once again full.

  4. We have a tiny Dollar Tree here and it has not yet increased their products. I expect them to do so soon, however. Our Dollar General has increased prices by quite a lot. Several sites I follow have mentioned shortages and higher prices, so the problems are all over this country, as well as many other countries.
It's easy to spend a lot of money when you go to the store hungry. Usually carrot cake and ice cream will just jump in my buggy.
We haven't had any rain in So long. We are still under a water restriction and the fire danger is worrying. At least we have had some beautiful days and perfect temps.
I have been down the rabbit hole following the Gabby Petito case. I think he is probably in South America or the Bahamas by now. I do believe there will be all sorts of dirt dug up about his family. Have you been following?
Love your jokes. Take care my friend.

    1. I have been reading about expected shortages for the upcoming Christmas season in particular children's toys.

That carrot cake almost jumped into my cart as well, but I remained strong and purchased oatmeal with raisin cookies instead. Thanks to the turkey and ham that take up so much space in the freezer...the ice cream did not hitch a ride with me either.

I did hear about the Gabby Petito case, but I have not been following it closely. I have no reason for saying this, but I think he either committed suicide or ended up as a snack for alligators which would be so deserving.

I hope you get some rain soon. I would trade your wonderful temperatures and low humidity any day...too bad that is not possible. How are your friends in Louisiana doing after all these rains?

      Take care as well amiga.

    2. My Cajun friends are absolutely waterlogged with too much rain for months. The mosquitoes are just as out of control as is Covid. Between Covid and old age, the ranks are thinning fast. I was so tickled to get a package filled with goodies from a fan, as well as several cards. I always said I wanted to star in my own Pirate Radio show, just didn't think it would be in a Cajun French talk show. I was always a big fan of the tv series "Northern Exposure" and Chris in the morning. I will be on Monday for sure because of a surprise guest we have set up. One of the French Immersion teachers from Paris qualified for the Tournoi. The Tournoi is riders on galloping horses holding a long lance skewering little rings. Women seldom compete. Always trying to improve the quality of our show and encourage good people to call in and just say hi and where they are from. Hint hint

    3. It is a shame that when the news media leaves a hard-hit area you may no longer hear about the suffering but it does not mean it has gone away. Every time it rains hard in the Houston /Galveston area it seems to make its way to Louisiana. Poor people, I hope they get some relief soon now that we have entered fall.

You have some very nice fans who always send you goodies. Mornings are complicated for me as I do not finish my chores until almost noon though I hope to one day surprise you and call in...I do not know what I will say...but I will think of something.
