Another power outage / Preparing for severe weather

I am so sick and tired of our power going out and not being able to do anything about it. I was looking forward to a 9:30 a.m. program about the Mexican version of Big Brother VIP that updates what happened the night before as well as Big Brother Brazil where there was a member interchange between the two houses. However, the lights went out at 9:14 a.m. even though there was no bad weather or severe winds...those are expected this evening. The power was not restored until 11:25 a.m. but I lost the cable signal in the kitchen and have not been able to fix it.

We are expecting severe storms this evening including strong winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes. Yesterday I went to HEB looking for large cardboard boxes so I can protect dad's old car but found only a few. I am out of old towels, blankets, and bedspreads as I used the ones I had for the cats' winter bedding. I, therefore, do not have enough cushiony items to protect the body of the car.

It has been hot this past week. Saturday we reached 96 degrees.

Sunday...88 degrees...McAllen, Texas reached the century mark.

Del Rio reached 87 degrees this afternoon...the temperature in Amarillo was 33 degrees where the cold front had already entered the state.

I was watching ABC World News Tonight with David Muir where they opened with the breaking news of the tornado and hail that was hitting Dallas/Fort Worth. The bad weather will hit Del Rio late this evening or early Friday morning.

Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. We had a small chance of rain here, but nothing happened. Wind just switched to the north. Hope your experience is the same.

    1. Our rain chances increment this weekend which I do not mind. It is the hail that has me worried both for dad's old car and for Mom's roof.

    It's about time.

    1. While it is not unusual to start seeing temperatures in the 90's during February and March...this year we are having more of them.

  3. Hope all went well overnight and the storm was mild if it came at all. We had hit 80 one day and had been in the 70's then Wed. the temps dropped to the low 60's and it rained like crazy same yesterday. Sure hope all this rain keeps the fires down, problem is the weeds will grow and then die off which can cause fires to start.

    1. The sky looked menacing towards the north but at least at Mom's house on the southern tip of Val Verde County, all we got was the wind.

The vlogger vandwellers that I follow who spent the winter in Arizona they are surprised how cold, windy, and rainy it has been this year.

Speaking of vloggers did you see the van Campervan Kevin bought? Wow, I was impressed it had low mileage and seems to be in very good condition for its age. He always finds good deals.

  4. Glad you only had the high winds. Yes we had a very cold wet winter with crazy winds. But last night on the news they said we are nolonger in drought mode. But OH the weeds. going to have make my own spray because this is going to be a battle all season long. I have already sprayed 4 times not weed to be seen. Then it rained for 2 days this week and it lookd like
But this weather is getting hard to deal with, I had to take off the heavey blanket and use the ceiling fan 3 nights then the temps plunge again and I had to throw it back on.
Yes I saw the van it is really nice! I have no doubt Kevin will have it built out really nice.

    1. Thursday it was the winds and last night (Friday 3/17) it started raining around 10:00 p.m. and has yet to stop. At least it was not heavy rain so it has had a chance to soak into the ground but I am afraid we might have flooding if as predicted it continues to rain until Sunday.

The weeds are horrible here and nothing I have tried that is homemade has worked for me. I do not like to use the ones with chemicals because they can harm the cats...they need to be pulled and/or the use of a heavy-duty weedeater. That of course requires me to hire someone and I have not had a single gardner that I can say did a good job.

I am looking forward to seeing Kevin's van transformation. I wish I was as handy and had a vision for the finished product as he does.

    1. I don't know what happened either. I have been having problems leaving comments on YouTube but I think that might have something to do with my keyboard and/or mouse.

Though the weeds being a touchy subject made me laugh :-D
