Early morning appointment / missing property tax statements

I tossed and turned all night much like I do when I have an early appointment and I'm afraid I might oversleep. Decided to start my day at 5:00 a.m. even though it was still dark outside. When they called to remind me of my appointment they told me to show up ten minutes before my appointment but when I inquired about registering times...she had forgotten that small detail and told me to arrive 30 minutes early. What a misinformed person, from years of experience I know it can take more than an hour. Pre-COVID I would have pre-registered but I was not going to do that and put myself in danger two days in a row.

Glad I showed up an hour and a half early because you have to have your temperature taken before you are allowed into the hospital (which is a good thing) answer some questions and then they match you to a list of appointments for the day after which they place a blue wrist band then you are allowed to proceed to the registration office. I understand the color changes daily and it serves to notify hospital employees that you have been screened.

There were so many people there! Glad I did not listen to that silly girl. It took almost an hour before I finished that part of the process and headed to Radiology. There were more people there but I did not have to wait long as my name was called out after only 10 minutes.

After I left the hospital I proceeded to the Recycling Center to drop off my metal cans and plastic water bottle containers.

I was so busy with the elections and donating to my favorite candidates during October that I completely forgot about paying our property taxes as you get a small discount if you pay them before January 31, 2021.

Then it hit me that I never saw them...they are hard to miss as they are hot pink. Placed a call to the appropriate county office and was told they were mailed out in mid-October, she agreed to re-send them.

Today I swung by the post office and while they had not arrived yet...I got two property tax statements that did not belong to us...not even the P.O. Box number matched. I wonder if ours are in somebody else's box as well? If it wasn't for the fact that we have had our box for YEARS...I would get a new one at the Post Office located in the north part of town.

By now it was past lunchtime so I picked up some smoked turkey legs. They were quite good. This afternoon I fell asleep during the five o'clock news, I really needed that nap!

Today we had a high of 87 degrees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Del Rio wins recycling award for fifth year in a row

Found out through "The Zocalo" online portal that Del Rio Recycling Center won an award for the fifth year in a row.  Kimberly Del Castillo, director at the Center is credited for this honor. Stopped by to drop off my recyclables and congratulated her as did all the people that came in. Told her where I read it and she said "El Zocalo" (Mexican Newspaper from Acuna, Coahuila) was the first media to come by with a copy of their newspaper where the article first appeared. http://www.zocalo.com.mx/seccion/articulo/premian-a-del-rio-por-su-programa-de-reciclaje-1394942370

Who knew back in the 80's and 90's that all these CRT's and old computers would end up here...at least they are not in the city dump taking up valuable space.

We went by the hospital Radiology Department to pick up some of my mother's records.  The hospital does not have the best reputation in the city (in particular the ER) but I must say that their Radiology Department is excellent and they have always treated my mother well. The gentlemen that gave us copies of the records personally came into the waiting room and hand delivered the package to her.  He treated her like she was an old friend and wished her well.  For that I am extremely appreciative.

More errand running took place before we went home to eat dinner.  Afterward decided to swing by the laundromat and do towels and blankets.  Slowly but surely hope to make a dent in all the chores I put off while I was ill.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Scam

I was resting in the recliner when the phone rang.  Did not recognize the name or the San Antonio area phone number so I ignored it.  About ten minutes later it rang again, thinking it might be CPL (Central Power and Light) in San Antonio decided to answer.

A little background...after Dad retired they kept on calling him at the house, not wanting to change the telephone number they had had for years, my parents decided to list it under my mother's middle name.  Whenever they call asking for that name, I know either it is a wrong number or a telemarketer.

This man asked for the person bearing that name and I told him he had the wrong number. Persistent fellow he was he further identified himself as a postal employee in San Antonio who had several yellow notices for this person that had gone unclaimed and he did not want to send the package without attempting to reach said person. He offered to have the package delivered to Del Rio by the afternoon...that is when I knew this was a bunch of BS, not even Federal Express could get it here so fast!  He even gave me the package number!

I asked him if he was an employee of the United States Postal Service why did that not show up in my caller I.D. and instead it showed a fellow named Leon Felix?  He said it was because he was using his personal cell number but that his name was not Leon but Andres Felix.  He asked me my name and I stupidly told him...and guess what?  He had a package for me too!

This conversation was in Spanish, I just laughed and asked him "are you a telemarketer?  To which he replied that he did not understand what I meant.  So in English I yelled at the top of my lungs " Are you a telemarketer?" he hesitated for a while and upon my insistence he replied "Yes" and I hung up.  I don't know what his game was but I must of left him deaf as he did not call again. I also reported him to the Postmaster in Del Rio.

Drove into town this afternoon not only to report the scam artist posing as a postal employee but also to take tons of water bottles and steel cans to the Recycling Center.

I also swung by Crown Recycling where I got paid for my large trash bag of aluminum cans $3.15.  Better than giving them away for free to the City of Del Rio :-)

I have to congratulate the State of Texas License Division because four days after my mother went to renew her Driver's License she got it in the mail today!

Glad I filled up on Wednesday because today it had gone up four cents.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Recycling Wednesday

I was finally able to make it to our local recycling center.  Funny I used to take stuff to Houston to recycle and now it is the other way around.  The Houston recycling centers are a bit far from my house while the one in Del Rio is centrally located.

Could not help but think of Ginger and Frann when I saw blue wine bottles someone had discarded as they both were collecting them to incorporate in their Terlingua homes.

They had a bunch of televisions.  When I discarded mine this center did not exit.  I had to take it to the city dump, get in line behind the trash trucks, then ended up getting a flat.  I swore it would be the first and last time I would ever go there and so far have kept my promise.

Had not blogged since I basically wasted two days waiting on my propane provider.  I do not know what is happening to him but ever since he switched employers it is like he doesn’t give a darn about his customers.  Used to be able to call him and he would be here within the hour or I could count on him to deliver that same day.

Bunch of old computers too

Called him early Monday and he said he would be here and if not he would call me…sure he called me at 5:10 p.m. to let me know he had ran out of propane and could not make it but he would here on Tuesday.  He made it all right but at 3:42 p.m., which pretty much shot my day to hell.

I swung by the post office today to mail off a very important package, which true to my procrastinating ways needed to have been mailed off in April.  I am marking the date as this is not just a blog but my cyber diary…as we all know about my CRS syndrome!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
