Early morning appointment / missing property tax statements

I tossed and turned all night much like I do when I have an early appointment and I'm afraid I might oversleep. Decided to start my day at 5:00 a.m. even though it was still dark outside. When they called to remind me of my appointment they told me to show up ten minutes before my appointment but when I inquired about registering times...she had forgotten that small detail and told me to arrive 30 minutes early. What a misinformed person, from years of experience I know it can take more than an hour. Pre-COVID I would have pre-registered but I was not going to do that and put myself in danger two days in a row.

Glad I showed up an hour and a half early because you have to have your temperature taken before you are allowed into the hospital (which is a good thing) answer some questions and then they match you to a list of appointments for the day after which they place a blue wrist band then you are allowed to proceed to the registration office. I understand the color changes daily and it serves to notify hospital employees that you have been screened.

There were so many people there! Glad I did not listen to that silly girl. It took almost an hour before I finished that part of the process and headed to Radiology. There were more people there but I did not have to wait long as my name was called out after only 10 minutes.

After I left the hospital I proceeded to the Recycling Center to drop off my metal cans and plastic water bottle containers.

I was so busy with the elections and donating to my favorite candidates during October that I completely forgot about paying our property taxes as you get a small discount if you pay them before January 31, 2021.

Then it hit me that I never saw them...they are hard to miss as they are hot pink. Placed a call to the appropriate county office and was told they were mailed out in mid-October, she agreed to re-send them.

Today I swung by the post office and while they had not arrived yet...I got two property tax statements that did not belong to us...not even the P.O. Box number matched. I wonder if ours are in somebody else's box as well? If it wasn't for the fact that we have had our box for YEARS...I would get a new one at the Post Office located in the north part of town.

By now it was past lunchtime so I picked up some smoked turkey legs. They were quite good. This afternoon I fell asleep during the five o'clock news, I really needed that nap!

Today we had a high of 87 degrees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Weather not as bad as predicted

We were warned of severe storms, hail, winds and lighting to take place this weekend.  The skies were ominous enough to keep me home but the rain and lighting did not materialize until late this afternoon and nowhere near what was predicted.

I even untied Pedrito Friday afternoon after his supper.  I did not want him getting wet or worst yet being hit in the head by Texas size hail.

I was reading fellow blogger Gypsy's post and smiled because I too decided to take a nap yesterday afternoon.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be a four-hour nap as I waited for the chicken and vegetables to boil.  Thank goodness Mom was on top of it or I could have burnt the house down :-(

I told Mom to wake me as the Spurs were playing an early game in Mexico City...do you think she did?  NO!!!  She said I needed the sleep and that I was snoring...jajajajajaja!  Oh well, they ended up losing because I was not cheering them on :)

I even went to sleep at 10:30 p.m. last night though I was wide awake by 2:15 a.m. but unlike the prior night decided to stay in bed and finally managed to doze off.  I am very tired so I think I will call it a night after the evening news.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Finally Got To Sleep In

It has been a good “do nothing” weekend.  Saturday, I actually slept until 1:24 p.m. something I had not done in ages. This afternoon I felt tired (have no idea why) so I decided to take a nap in my zero gravity chair and fell asleep for four hours!

If you have back problems or difficulty sleeping I highly recommend you purchase one, they are worth their price in gold.  I love mine so much that it is the first item I put in my vehicle when I go to Terlingua…yes, even before the beer!

Last night I tried to get inspiration by watching a video on how to set up my particular tent but I guess it was not enough, as I never got around to actually doing it.  In my defense I did not wake up from my nap until 8:00 p.m. (my face blushing) so there was no more daylight to accomplish the task.

Been reading in the blogs I follow how the temperatures have fallen to autumn levels, not so here in Del Rio.  Take that back, per the daily e-mail I get from the Weather Channel it said it was 68 degrees at 7:07 a.m.,  too bad I was asleep and did not get to enjoy it.

Want to welcome Randall Small to the blog audience. Thank you for your preference!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

The Weather is Messing Up My Plans

The weather messed up my plans to come to Houston and now it is messing up my plans to go back to Del Rio.  It rained heavy both Friday and Saturday and once again this afternoon.

Whenever I get to Houston the first thing I do is mow the front lawn so the HOA does not send me a love letter.  The front was not so bad this time because I still have St. Augustine grass that did not die after last year’s drought but the backyard is a jungle with all the crabgrass, some funky ivy that has wrapped itself around my crape myrtle and has also taken over part of the lawn.

The only way to get rid of crabgrass is to dig it up and for that I brought a pick axe but it is heavy and it makes big holes with every blow apart from making my arms ache so have had to go back to a shovel.

Was hoping to use my electric weed eater to help me chop some of it down but that is not possible with all the rain that has fallen…do not want to electrocute myself!  Worst yet end up in the hospital since I have no health insurance coverage.

Needed to go to Sears to see if I can find a good quality pruner but I do not drive in the rain so those plans are shot too.  My neighbor chopped down his tree and now it is sprouting on my side of the fence.  The Black and Decker pruner I bought last time I was in town is a piece of doodoo…I can not even cut small size limbs!

Was going to try to go to the last day of the Harbor Freight Sidewalk sale but again the weather interfered with my plans.  I think my whole life revolves around yard work and I am not too happy with that.

This morning I woke up at 4:15 a.m. and could not go back to sleep.  Here I have the opposite problem than in Del Rio…my washing machine works but the drier does not.  Decided to wash clothes so I could go dry them as soon as the laundry mat opened. It is in front of the subdivision and is rather nice.  The machines are new and much cheaper than in Del Rio.

Had to wait until this morning to buy the Houston Chronicle since again the rains ruined my plans to go purchase one yesterday and get a head start on my shopping list.  I barely glanced through it because I kept on falling asleep so decided to take a nap (something I do not usually do).  Would you believe I took a four and a half hour nap?  Neither do I but I did.  Even heard the rain but was too sleepy to care.

Was hoping to start on that nasty five letter word…TAXES…but I have not had time, energy or motivation but I better get some as October 15th is right around the corner and I do not want to go through what I had to endure last year.  Did I learn my lesson?  Apparently not, guess I am a procrastinator by nature and at this stage of my life guess I always will be :-(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Well, I really messed up!!

Came to update my blog when I am greeted with blank spaces in one of the posts I was most proud of “The Sage is Blooming”.  Turns out I deleted some pictures in Photobucket that I thought were duplicates and I guess they were the ones linked to my blog post.  I will have to fix that but it will have to be another night, sigh!

Del Rio only has trash service once a week, so I was outside last night until pretty late raking and filling up trash bags.  This morning my arms hurt but I had to go tackle the weeds growing on the street side of the fence since it is highly unlikely the county will mow again until next spring.

It was hot outside and I had my big brim hat, sunglasses and plenty of cold water on hand to help me bear the elements.  I could see Walter in his stable with the darn sun bearing down upon him and his one little lowly mesquite tree for shade.

I took this picture last month.  The Mesquite tree offers little shade.
School is over and the owner’s son was most likely in his air conditioned home watching TV or playing videos and probably does not even care the poor horse had no shade and probably hot water…that is if he had water at all!  All the darn kid had to do was get off his fat rear end and let him come to our property.  It saddens me that some people have no consideration for their animals.

Was outside for around four hours, came in took a shower and ate.  Then Mom and I sat down to watch the news and we BOTH fell asleep until 7:00 p.m.   Well at least we got a good two-hour nap.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
