I was a little apprehensive after I had read some things on another blog regarding this procedure. Fortunately my mother is not claustrophobic and today her pain level was low...unlike last week when she had her Cat Scan done.
Only the person having the MRI and the radiology technicians are able to cross through the door due to the strong magnetic field. Even her cane had to stay outside.
While I have not had the best experience with the Emergency Room personnel...I have nothing but praise for the Radiology Department staff at Val Verde Regional Medical Center. They are very professional, compassionate and caring individuals who are very considerate of my mother and her special needs.
Her doctor has referred her to a neurosurgeon. The choice was one in San Antonio or in San Angelo, Texas. If we chose one in San Antonio we would have to drive there for every appointment. If we chose the one in San Angelo it is a surgeon her doctor is familiar and has worked closely with. I would only have to drive there for the first appointment if her pain level rises again or we could wait for him to come to Del Rio which I believe he does so once a month.
If you are wondering why I did not consider a Houston neurosurgeon it is because she absolutely HATES Houston. Besides her doctor does not personally know anyone he could recommend nor do my friends or acquaintances.
Read up on a lot of them but I have had prior experiences when my dad was alive and I chose one with impeccable credentials...yet had the worst beside manner, some whose English was very difficult to understand, others who were full of themselves and/or were pretty much AH's. I apologize for my French but I call it as I see it.
I have received a couple of e-mails and I apologize for not being able to reply to them. This month has been pretty hectic and I am pretty much beat come night time when I usually go online.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
There ain't much more I can say other than "good luck mama". Tuff old gal you got there, walk in there an' climb in one them scary machines like that. Hope something can be done withOUT surgery. But then, they say...."who is they?" the newer back surgery techniques are much improved over 20 year ago.
ReplyDeleteRead mom your reply, she told me to tell you that there is nothing scary about that machine and that if she could do it you can too...after all you are younger!
DeleteI wish the very best for your Mom. My son had back surgery and it laid him up for quite awhile. His was done with a scalpel and pins and screws were installed to fuse three vertebrae.
ReplyDeleteThat surgery must have been done years ago. They have disc replacements now, kind of like "whomba wowzers" boob implants. Very quick recovery. Normal back surgery you back to work in 3 to 5 days.
DeleteI certainly hope surgery will not be involved Dizzy. Like Billy Bob mentioned they have new procedures that are less invasive now days.
DeleteWill not know until after the neurosurgeon sees her.
"They have disc replacements now, kind of like "whomba wowzers" boob implants. Very quick recovery."
Deletejajajajajaja...lord Billy Bob you always manage to bring a smile to my face :D
Sounds like San Angelo would be the better deal all the way around. I hate Houston to so sure don't blame her for that. That is where I had the surgery on my neck and it never has been the same since!
ReplyDeleteWe decided to go with San Angelo, it was the best alternative in her case.
DeleteYou have mentioned the surgery in your neck before and it sounds like it had to be complicated and painful. Maybe this year we can finally manage to meet up in Terlingua and if you don't mind we can talk about it...no pressure of course if you rather not.
Good luck with all of this & thanks for putting that picture up!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob.
DeleteBTW I also revised the last post about the Chili Cook-off and included it there too.
It would have been helpful had we had that picture the first time a friend and I went to the cook-off but then again it was pitch black that night and they probably did not have that sign up yet :)
MsB you and your momma are in my thoughts. You take care. I'll be lurking around checking up every so often. the rat
ReplyDeleteThank you Mr. Rat
