Was looking at my pictures from many moons ago including the first year they brought back Mardi Gras to Galveston. It only got better and better each year but it has been a long time since my last visit to the Island.
Now the Houston Rodeo is just around the corner, what great times I had there as well. I recalled my first time there with a friend and forgetting where the heck I had parked. My feet were so swollen I just sat on the parking lot and waited for everyone to leave. Not a minute to soon...as I finally spotted the car...it began to rain.
Another person in Billy Bob's blog posted about the honky tonks in Pasadena and Baytown and how they are always full from the three daily shifts at the refineries. It reminded me of my old stomping grounds the City of South Houston, Pasadena, and Deer Park. Always something to do or somewhere to go in the big city no matter the hour.
Where else would you find beer joints named The Doghouse, He is not Here, She is not Here and so many more other funny names that currently escape me?
Reminiscing...I guess that is what one would call it.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
I've been in some honky tonks in my younger years, but the memories and the names elude me now - thank God!
ReplyDeleteLol, Gypsy sometimes having CRS is not so bad after all :)
DeleteI'm reminiscing when YOUR chingasso SPURS used to WIN!!!! hee
ReplyDeleteTonite should be a W. GSG
There you go again...what happened to OUR Spurs?
DeleteThey need a "limpia" by a good brujo or bruja and they need it NOW!
Well, shoot. Scratch that W, Ss....
ReplyDeleteYep, OUR Spurs are in a funk :-(
DeleteSomebody did some voodoo on them, they are not even a shadow of what they were last year.
How could they lose to the Jazz? They could not buy a bucket between them. We played better when we were injured. Sad indeed :(
Losing to the Jazz makes me Fifty Shades of Gr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!
DeleteA team cannot win with 17 Assists Vs 22 Turnovers. Plus missed 9 Free Throws. (Lost by 9 Pts) They're FREE! sheeeesh
Oh well, time for a win streak. Call your Brujas y Curanderas now, Ss!
Lol, about the Fifty Shades of G-r-r-r-r-r-r-r....:D
DeleteTonight after we came back in the second quarter I thought we had a chance to pull it off. What is wrong with Tony Parker, Patty Mills, Danny Green? They and a couple others have gone cold!
I know they have a lot of good Brujas and Curanderas in San Antonio I remember seeing them on KSAT12 around play-off time...in Del Rio all we have is charlatans.
I lived in Pasadena and South Houston for years and one of my favorite clubs would confirm the part about shift work at the refineries. The crowd both day and night always changed with the shifts. When the hubbies were on night shifts the wives would be at that club kicking up their hills. If the hubbies were on days then some wives would be there until just before time for hubby to get home. On rare occasions you would see both hubby and wife there on long change. Of course if it had been all the wives working then the hubbies would have been the ones at the club. ;)
ReplyDeleteAll your observations are right on the money Tffnguy. Sometimes I miss all the action and the Payton Place environment of it all.
DeleteNow it seems like a lifetime ago but I sure did have a lot of fun at the time. You guys have more entertainment in the desert than I do in Del Rio. Nothing else to do but cry and moan about the Spurs :-(
