On the first day of 2022 we set a new all time record high

I was outside since early morning raking, picking up trash, hanging clothes, and ironically preparing for the frigid temperatures this evening would bring, and frankly, it got rather warm.  I would later learn that Del Rio set a new all-time record high when it reached 89 degrees this afternoon.

Even at 10:01 p.m. this evening it was a warm 74 degrees in comparison to other parts of Texas where the cold front had already passed.

Today I made another trip to Stripes to pick up some dinner plates. I had never seen shrimp cooked like this so picked one up with a side of red rice and beans, and a flour tortilla...

Along with half a chicken plate with red rice, green beans, and its accompanying flour tortilla...

I have no idea why the food pictures are looking so tiny...😕...BTW all lunch and dinner plates cost $5.99 plus tax much cheaper and healthier than a greasy hamburger and I do not have to drive to the north part of town to get it.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. We are still into the 50's for highs and last night 28. We should start warming up in a couple of days.
You food choices looked pretty good.

    1. That is what I was hoping Abel but when I asked the server, he seemed confused by the word "cajun".

I was hoping it tasted like crawfish etouffee but with shrimp...it didn't...but it was good anyway :-)

You take care as well, heard it got cold in Austin.

  3. Ha. It was 14 here this morning (Monday), only 200 miles northeast of you (I'm guessing - but just looked it up, and that's about right.)But tomorrow is supposed to be 68 here, so you might be feeling toasty again.
What time of day does Stripes put out it's dinner plate stuff?
I guess I should go investigate here.....only been there in the morning.

    1. I have no idea how cold it got here on Monday but I do not believe it was anywhere near what you experienced.

We have six Stripes in town, but only three sell food, and some have different owners. The Stripes I go to is the one going to Mexico since we live in the southern part of the county. This Stripes has a lot of business as it is the only truck stop in Del Rio.

I believe their kitchen is open from 4:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but with my CRS, I could be wrong will check next time. The kitchen is not run by Stripes it is operated by a separate entity that leases space there called Laredo Taco Company.

    2. JudithK - I just called them, and they told me their kitchen closes at 8:00 p.m. I could swear the hours posted on the door say otherwise.

The latest I leave the house during winter is 4:00 p.m. to go anywhere since I have poor night vision and like to get home before dark.

    3. Well, now, there's a thought. I could just call the local Stripes. Duh. Sounds like all that can vary from Stripes to Stripes, but the one here DOES have good food.
Yup. I'm with you about being out after dark.
