Wildfires / Warm Temperatures / Goodyear

It has been very warm lately but as soon as the sun sets it cools down significantly. Our dew point levels have been low 10 to 15% something I do not recall ever seeing before. There have been two wildfires close to San Antonio and many acres have been burnt.

At noon I heard there was a new wildfire in northern Kinney County which is where Brackettville, Texas is located and only 30 miles from Del Rio.

There is no rain in the forecast.

I drove to the post office to pick up the mail, dropped off recyclables, and paid a visit to Ross. I wanted to check out their tennis shoes hoping to find some with more padding and support. My parents house has a lot of cacti and darn mesquite trees branches whose sharp thorns do a number on my shoes.

I was very surprised to find that Goodyear...yes, the famous tire maker now makes tennis shoes 😁

They look sturdy and at $26.99 a good price but they were more like hiking shoes and were heavy so I had to pass.

Learned that Goodyear also makes luggage...who knew?

I considered going to Marshall's which is located at the other end of the mall but my feet were hurting perhaps on another occasion?

On the way home I passed by HEB and this was the going price for gasoline today. They seemed to be doing a brisk business.

$3.79 for unleaded gasoline

I do not know what I did but I messed up the alignment of this post...sorry about that!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. The older companies that are still around learned they needed to diversify their investments. Look how Kodak nearly went belly up.
A more solid shoe might be what you need for your feet. Just be certain they have good arch support.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Diversification, in order to survive, is a good strategy though Firestone continues to be a major player in the tire industry.

The tennis shoes did not have much arch support but that can be fixed with inserts the problem was that they were way too heavy and would tire me out much as my hiking shoes do.

  2. Sorry to read about your battle with plantar fascitis -
One of my granddaughters was a volleyball player in high school & college - she visited a sports / foot Dr who recommended sole inserts and stretching therapy when she has flareups- she says it has worked- so far she has avoided the dreaded surgery...she is also extremely fussy about the shoes & sneakers she wears now.
Anyway, the reality of climate change is happening & will continue to cause severe impacts to all in mother natures path as its obvious we as a global community are not serious about executing the appropriate adjustments to reverse the causes - Apparently Texans have not embraced fatty t-Rumps "raking your forest floors" epiphany?

    1. Plantar fasciitis is a very painful ailment that I do not wish on my worst enemy. It does not help when you have a podiatrist you do not have much faith in. I am glad your granddaughter is on the mend and that inserts and stretch therapy has worked for her.

Funny you mention the "raking the forest floors" epiphany. My friend and I were just discussing that this weekend...would love to hear the orange blob call Gregg Abbott and suggest "he rake the West Texas desert floor"...jajajaja :D

  3. So is that night brace helping any at all? Maybe just when you get up in the night? That would be worth something.....Fires have calmed down here for the moment, and tonight we have a big chance of rain, unfortunately, only max of 1/2 inch. Ah well, we'll see.

    1. Friday night was the first night I started using the night brace so it is a little early to make an assessment.

Thought of you when one of the San Antonio channels talked about the drought of 2011 that for some reason I have no recollection of...no, wait...I KNOW why I don't remember...CRS :-(

At least you guys have a chance of rain, hope it materializes for you.

    2. We had .7! Better than nothing for sure. Guess you didn't get any at all. Sigh.

    3. .7 is not bad. We did not even get one drop :-(

  4. It is so early in the season for wild fires and with no rain and very low dew point its going to be a bad summer. We had so much rain since yesterday and of course the nasty winds. Early yesterday we had fire alerts thank goodness for all the rain that followed.

    1. We have not had any measurable precipitation since December 2021, so I envy your rain. I tell you everyone is experiencing those nasty winds, and there is no end in sight. They are forecasted to be bad for the next two days in Del Rio.
