A nice and fulfilling lunch

As my regular readers know I do not go online until after midnight that is why I have my blog setting set to Pacific Time to give me an additional two hours to make my post for that day.  Yesterday I was two minutes shy of that deadline so please excuse me for all the typos and grammatical errors as I did not have time to review them before the time change.  I have now updated the previous post and clarified some items.

Definitively I had a full day yesterday but for the reason outlined above, I was not able to blog about it. As Chris Cuomo would say...let's get to it!

I was starving to death but we do not have breakfast buffets in Del Rio except on weekends at the Sirloin Stockade but as you know I am not a morning person unless I have not gone to bed.
I finally made my way to Sirloin Stockade for lunch and here is what I ate...OK, no food shaming guys :-)

I enjoy fish so like the last time I was here I had baked tilapia, macaroni and cheese, Brussel sprouts, zucchini prepared with tomato, cheese and cut up bacon. I was only going to put lemon on my fish but spotted some tartar sauce, unfortunately, I did not intend for a big blob to fall on my plate.

First dish
Did I mention I was hungry?  This time no mac and cheese...

Second portion

They usually have three soups.  One was beans (not a fan) the other some creamy soup (per my doctor should avoid) and then a version of Caldo de Res (Mexican Beef Stew).  While I ate it, it had a different taste perhaps due to some unknown spices, white rice and too salty.

Caldo de Res
I am not big on sweets or desserts and on my last visit the ice cream cone machine was broken but not today so I indulged ;-)

My snow cone
It was very hot yesterday with a low of 78 and a high of 102 with a heat index of 105 degrees.

For some reason I am having problems with the spacing, it is not intentional and I have no idea how to fix it. Sorry about that.

Good night,  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Beautiful weather

One can not ask for better weather than the one we have been having here in West Texas. It has been sunny, in the low to mid-eighties even high eighties in the middle of winter.  It does cool off at night but we have not had a need to turn on the furnace.  A cold front should arrive this week but by a cold front, I mean temperatures in the fifty to sixty-degree range.

Yesterday I finally made some Caldo de Res (Mexican beef and vegetable soup) and used up all the vegetables I had in the refrigerator.  While it is not Caldo weather it felt good to eat something else that was not chicken or a salad.

Have you seen the AT&T commercial where the guy is sitting on the floor of his shower crying after having opened his Internet bill?  I know I complain about every ISP I have ever contracted but with good reason.  When I lived in Houston I had AT&T and I loved them...wish they served this area.

Got an e-mail from DISH saying I had used 90 percent of my alloted 5.0 GB Anytime minutes. Just checked and I only have 0.3 GB remaining but 4.2 GB of Off-Peak minutes.  Off-Peak is from 2:00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m.  They did offer to sell me 1GB for an additional $10.00...how considerate of them...grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

I am trying to finish this within the off-peak time slot.  I will either do a post in the middle of the night or early morning but I am not paying them any additional fees.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

The return of Mata Gatos ( Cat Killer)

I was up before sunrise because I had so many errands to run today.  Whenever my mom takes a nap or after my uncle calls every night I put our landline telephone (yes, we still have one of those) on Do Not Disturb so it will not ring and wake her up.

This afternoon I needed to try to find many of the things on my list to take to Terlingua and that I believe are in Terlita (my camping van).  Was busy opening plastic containers as well as boxes when I noticed someone opening the gate and walking towards the garage..WTH...I am nearsighted and can barely make out people's faces from the distance even with my contacts on!

What do you know it was Mata Gatos (Cat Killer) and his wife whom I had never met.  A bit of history on this character for my new readers...this person is my mother's handyman but in reality he is not handy at anything.  He is a jack of all trades and master of none.  He is a school bus driver and during their off time (Christmas, Easter, Summer) he comes around wanting to do odd jobs.  That would be good if he only knew what he was doing but most importantly got around to completing the job.

The reason I named him Mata Gatos (Cat Killer) is because I have a deep suspicion he and/or his son had something to do with the disappearance of my beloved 14-year-old cat.  At the time I was in Houston dealing with my own worthless handy person and my mother did not have the heart to tell me of his disappearance.

For example he will come mow and do the front yard but he wont show up again for another month or sometimes longer to do the backyard.  He is totally worthless and I thought I had gotten rid of him but since his bus route includes this area I guess he saw that Walter (the horse) was missing and he wanted to come cash in.

His excuse was that his wife had made "caldo de res" and since he heard mother was sick...wanted to bring her some.  Said he had called but no one picked up...told him she was asleep but thanked them both for thinking of her.  Then he asked if the horse (Walter) was still coming around because our grass (weeds) were so high.  Told him he had just gotten back after a 66 day absence.

You should of seen his face drop!  Hopefully he wont be back for a while!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Caldo de Res/ Shadowmoss / Algodones, Mexico

Today I got a wild hair and decided I would brew me up some Caldo de Res.  In case you are new to my blog...I am not very good in the culinary department.  I have made it before with semi good results but what I cooked today was down right awful!

Friday I made some rice that was half edible so I had it with my caldo de res to make it a little more palatable.  I sure hope Mom feels up to cooking again or I may wind up poisoning us both!  Where is my tall weathered cowboy (TWC) to save the day?

Shadowmoss - I remember you posting on my blog that you were thinking about going to Algodones, Baja California, Mexico for dental work.  Today I read a great review on a high tech clinic there on another blog. Was going to let you know about it and lord and behold you had already read it!

For the rest of my readers if you are in the Arizona or California area and are looking for some affordable but at the same time quality dental care I invite you to read the following post http://mobilecodgers.blogspot.com/    I have no affiliation with the doctor, clinic or the person who writes the blog.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
