I am so sick of rain if it wasn't because I had to take mother to have her labs done, I would have stayed home. I have noticed that if I go somewhere the next day I feel very tired. I don't know if it is my Fibromyositis, my age or both.
Used the pharmacy drive-thru window to pick up a prescription. Was headed to the post office when it began to pour so decided to head back home instead.
Yesterday I finally heard back from my friend Linda Lou, she left me a message saying that this past Monday her telephone (a landline) was finally fixed. more than five weeks after hurricane Harvey hit.
I am also mad as heck with worthless DISH, they have yet to refund the money they charged my credit card even though I had already disconnected my service. I had a bad headache this afternoon but I hope to tackle this soon. Learn from my mistake...do NOT higher DISH!!!!!
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
Hope to one day make my Terlingua Dreams a reality and purchase my little piece of heaven in the remote West Texas region of the Chihuahuan desert.

Good riddance Harvey!
It has been a very trying week for the residents of the State of Texas. I am so glad Harvey has finally left the Lone Star State, I sincerely hope they retire that hurricane name.
My nerves have been on edge and with my CRS, I misplaced my cell phone charger. While I can look up the telephone numbers of my friends that still have a landline phone, that is not the case for those that have cell phones. If my friends are reading this please do not call or text my cell phone as I will never be able to get your messages. Call me at my mother's house or e-mail me.
Spoke to the only two neighbors I trust and was relieved to find out that my house did not flood. While that is good news for me, it makes me sad for all those that were not as fortunate and whose lives changed overnight.
The only friend from the City of South Houston that I have heard back from, actually I heard about it from a mutual acquaintance is that her home flooded once again. She recently lost her husband and now she has lost her home and vehicle and is understandably devastated.
Gasoline prices have skyrocketed, I drove into town yesterday and gasoline prices ranged from between $2.19 to $2.25, I am sure they are much higher today. Saw where people were panic buying all over the state and there were long lines at the gasoline stations.
Finally dropped off the DISH equipment at the UPS store. They sent me two nasty emails last week saying if I did not return their equipment I would be charged X number of dollars. I was furious! Called them and told them I had yet to receive the boxes they were supposed to send me. He looked it up and sure enough, they were still in transit.
In the instructions on what equipment to return, they actually wanted me to retrieve two things that I would have had to climb on the roof for. On a YouTube video read a comment from a gentleman who told them he was handicap and could not climb on the roof...after checking with their supervisor, he was informed he did not have to return it. I do not believe in lying so I told the guy the truth...I have a fear of heights and suffer from vertigo, so he told me the same thing.
In the same instructions, it said that if I needed tape to seal the box this would be provided free of charge at UPS. Needless to say, I was pissed when I found this was not the case. I had just taken mother to the doctor and I was not about to go shopping for packing tape in 95-degree weather. Those UPS price gougers charged me $7.95 plus tax for the same tape I could have bought for a dollar at Dollar Tree. I am so glad I dropped that worthless DISH!!!! OK...end of rant!

Out of data...again!
| ||
| ||
Thank you for being a valued dishNET customer. I am so sick and tired of running out of data even after the nice Dish guy gave me an additional 5 GB's after I blew by my monthly allotment in 3 days. I hope to soon be able to ditch them and hopefully, you will never have to hear me moan and groan about this issue again....yeah! |

Lightning Show
The first storms that hit the area were in northwest Val Verde County and did not reach Del Rio. It mainly affected Comstock, Texas a town 30 miles northwest of us. The lightning show began around 9:45 p.m. and it goes without saying that we lost both Dish Internet and TV signal.
The telephone rang at 10:40 p.m. it was the City of Del Rio warning that we would be hit by severe storms in a few minutes and to check their Facebook page. That would be fine and dandy if I had an Internet connection...grrrrrrrrrr...calm down Belinda, you only have one more month left on your worthless Dish contract!
We got hammered pretty good by rain and winds. I was afraid the lights might go out so I had my solar lights handy but it never came to that. There was so much damage in Rockwall and north Texas. The same storm system is fixing to hit the Greater Houston area, hope my poor house holds up.
All this rain is only going to make the weeds grow and in case you are wondering...no, I still have not gotten to them.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
Spurs Corner
I am so looking forward to tonight's game against the Golden State Warriors. I am still on a high after the spanking we gave Lebron's Cavaliers on Monday. It was possibly one of the best defensive games we have played in a while and a true delight to watch.
Go Spurs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful weather
One can not ask for better weather than the one we have been having here in West Texas. It has been sunny, in the low to mid-eighties even high eighties in the middle of winter. It does cool off at night but we have not had a need to turn on the furnace. A cold front should arrive this week but by a cold front, I mean temperatures in the fifty to sixty-degree range.
Yesterday I finally made some Caldo de Res (Mexican beef and vegetable soup) and used up all the vegetables I had in the refrigerator. While it is not Caldo weather it felt good to eat something else that was not chicken or a salad.
Have you seen the AT&T commercial where the guy is sitting on the floor of his shower crying after having opened his Internet bill? I know I complain about every ISP I have ever contracted but with good reason. When I lived in Houston I had AT&T and I loved them...wish they served this area.
Got an e-mail from DISH saying I had used 90 percent of my alloted 5.0 GB Anytime minutes. Just checked and I only have 0.3 GB remaining but 4.2 GB of Off-Peak minutes. Off-Peak is from 2:00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. They did offer to sell me 1GB for an additional $10.00...how considerate of them...grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
I am trying to finish this within the off-peak time slot. I will either do a post in the middle of the night or early morning but I am not paying them any additional fees.

Rain, Rain and more Rain...
It has been raining practically non-stop since late Friday night. We really need the rain but not this much in such a short time frame. What happens when it rains in south Val Verde county? Well, of course, the signal on my worthless DISH goes out...both TV and Internet.
I can not believe a city the size of Del Rio has such unreliable service when my Terlingua friends out deep in the desert outback have excellent connectivity...go figure!
I really hate to see all those precious gallons of water go to waste and as preparation for my future desert life, I put out as many containers, 5-gallon buckets, ice chests, trash cans and anything that could serve as my rainwater catchment and storage.
At the suggestion of one of my readers, I purchased a five dollar Tracfone some time ago. Loved it, it was a no frills phone and very easy to use. However, I was notified that my 2G phone would no longer work after December 31, 2016. They did send a free replacement phone but it was a smartphone and I really did not want it. I have over 2000 minutes leftover since I hardly use the darn thing, I only have it in case of an emergency as we constantly travel to San Antonio and back.
I have no idea how people can write posts using their smartphones. I tried since my home internet was dead but failed, not that that should come as a surprise to anyone :D
Without further ado....

Administered the three tranquilizer pills to Tammie hidden in a hot dog early Thursday morning. This time I was very hopeful of succeeding as she laid down to sleep next to Oscar after having breakfast. They were next to dad's old car. Both looked to be fast asleep but Oscar saw me lurking around and his movements woke her up.
She, of course, took off and ended up under Terlita (my non-working camping van). Terlita is parked in the carport/garage in an unlevel spot. In some areas, it has a 7-inch clearance and in others 8 inches.
I would have had to get on my belly, wait until she was passed out and then dragged her out and carried her to my vehicle. That is if she was within arms reach, as I am not exactly Twiggy (famous model in the 60's) to be able to contour my body to fit into such a tight space.
Folks...that just did not happen! First of all, she never passed out and secondly, I could not risk trying to get her out without her biting me. For those new to this blog...I do not have health insurance and a trip to the hospital is not in my budget.
I truly care for this dog but not at the risk of personal injury to myself. On the positive side, each day she seems to have fewer quills on her face. She is taking antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and pain medication, so she is not suffering and actually is doing quite well under the circumstances.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

As you can see Terlita does not have a high clearance |

Today she is down to four quills. |

Storm systems
We have been having storm after storm system move through the area. Yesterday, when I heard on the news that we could have from 4 to 10 inches of rain this weekend...I really did not believe it...guess I should have.
I can not go anywhere as I do not drive in the rain, unless it is an absolute emergency. So what is left to do? Well, with my worthless DISH service it certainly does not involve watching TV or web surfing. Lost both several times yesterday. If anyone is considering satellite TV, think twice in particular if you live in the Del Rio area.
With the new kitchen leak, kept on getting up throughout the night to dump the bucket. In one of those occasions I happened to notice that I had a message. So at four o'clock in the morning I am listening to a message I got at 10:30 p.m.
I have taken to turning off the ringer after 9:00 p.m. as people seem to think they can call anytime. The same goes for early morning callers. I do not care if you get up at 5:00 a.m. I am not and have never been a morning person. For goodness sake, I have an elderly loved one who needs her rest....grrrrr!!!!!!!!
Blogger has a new tool called "featured post"...as usual, I messed up and can not make the picture appear smaller...sorry about that!
In anticipation of the 2016 CASI Chili Cook-off, I decided to feature a post I wrote back on July 24, 2013 with tips for those contemplating attending this year's festivities. If you have any questions please do not e-mail me at terlinguadreams@gmail.com as I seldom check that account. Please use terlinguadreams@outlook.com . Thank you.
This is where I say good night, may you all have Terlingua Dreams...but since I never could go back to sleep after 4:00 a.m. I will begin my day. Have a good one and stay dry if you live in Texas.

Computer/ Weeds / Parade
I bit the bullet and finally purchased a new computer. It sat in the corner for eight days as I was having second thoughts. This past Saturday I decided to finally set it up. I would like to say that it went smoothly but I would be lying...you know how bad I am with technology :-(
For years I put off buying one as they were equipped with Windows 8 and I can barely navigate around Window 7. This Windows 10 from my point of view is not any better. Where are my e-mails? It forced me to set up a code to have access to it...but I can't see them!!!
I want to set up Chrome but it wont let me. Blogger is telling me "the browser I am using is unsupported and may result in unexpected behavior". So I have no idea how this post will turn out.
I have come to the conclusion that it is not so much my old computer or this one for that matter that is slow...it is the darn Internet connection. I do not recommend DISH Internet to anyone. For that matter I do not recommend DISH TV either. Last night I was watching a game and surfing the web when the signal went out and it wasn't even raining that hard...glad it was after the Spurs game!
I went to feed the dogs this morning and noticed that the weeds around Pedrito's tree were getting big...so I grabbed my Hulla Hoe and went to work. That inspired me to try to clear up more weeds. The weather was perfect, cloudy and breezy. I even tackled the weeds and darn baby mesquite growing on the street side of the fence.
I felt a sense of accomplishment. However, I think I might have over done it...my back, arms, legs and hands are killing me.
As I type this I am watching the 75th Texas Cavaliers River Parade taking place during the Fiesta celebrations in San Antonio, Texas. It was in jeopardy of not taking place due to the rains. Hope to one day be able to take that and other Fiesta events in person.
Good night. May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
Spurs Corner
The playoffs began Saturday April 16th and I have been in hog heaven since. My prediction for this first round is a sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Kawhi Leonard was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. A well deserved honor for this exemplary young player that has a very bright future with the Spurs.
GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
