Cold, Windy and some Wine

The howling wind woke me up this morning.  What a difference from Saturday which was a warm and sunny day in the 70's...but it's winter and you got to roll with the punches.  Have to be grateful I am not up north freezing my tush off.

I had every intention of keeping my date with the laundromat...had two fresh rolls of quarters BUT...there is always a but...the place was jammed packed!  What is the matter with these people, do they not know it is Sunday, a day to be at home with the family, go to church, watch the Super Bowl?

Since I was already out and about, I decided against my better judgement to go to HEB.  My plan was to go wash and by the time I finished, the Super Bowl would have already started and the store would be empty.  I remember back in the 90's in Houston...either Kroger's or Randall's, I don't remember which (I suffer from CRS)...would offer 10% off...if you shopped during the game.  It was great to shop with no crowds in the big city and get a discount to boot!

HEB was packed and everyone seemed to be in a jovial mood.  Only had three things on my list...bananas, milk and paper towels.  Noticed they had a lot of food tasting booths today and as I passed one, the lady asked me if I wanted to taste some wine.  Remember back in August 2013, I sampled some wine as well as Frio Light Beer?  http://terlinguadreams.blogspot.com/2013/08/wine-and-beer-tasting-at-heb.html

Well, it was the same wine but this time it tasted awful!  I had bought the wine for steak night in Terlingua but since my friends with the food did not attend this year and I had back problems I did not take the wine or the six pack of Frio Light...it is still in the refrigerator awaiting my review, lol :D

Hope the team you were rooting for won and/or that you got lucky numbers in your football pot.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

A day of running errands

Woke up early and brought in the rest of the plants that I did not get to yesterday.  It kept on getting colder by the minute and had to go inside and bundle up.

Needed to run several errands in town the most important being gassing up dad's car.  I was afraid I was not going to make it to the new Stripes so stopped at the first gas station I came to.  A couple of weeks ago I spotted people airing up their tires for free.  I asked the clerk about it and she told me while it is free...I needed to get the hose from the back and hook it up...too much trouble!

When was the last time I came to the post office?  Our P.O. Box was overflowing!

After the fiasco that was Wal-Mart's Thursday pre-Black Friday sale...I went online and found a better deal on SD cards.  Today I went to pick them using their site to store delivery.  I was probably about the fourth person in line...so much better than that day!  Think I have learned my lesson...no more pre-Black Friday or any kind of after Thanksgiving sales.

Had to go to Home Depot to purchase more light bulbs.  For some reason I think I must have gotten a bad batch of the new Energy Saver mini twisters that claim to last 9.1 years.  I did not even get a year out of them.

The going gasoline price in Del Rio, Texas today.  I am having some problems uploading photos this evening but will try to get it resolved hopefully tonight.

On my way back home the price had gone
down .02 vents

Reason why Exxon and HEB went down in their prices

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Snow tonight?

The weather forecast calls for rain turning to snow after midnight.  Mostly sleet and a light dusting of snow.  Do I believe them?  Not really, but we will see.

Guess my trip to Houston will once again have to be postponed due to weather issues.  Make no mistake I am not looking forward to going either.  Who knows what I will encounter when I get there.

With the holidays and company, I had not had a chance to catch up on my mail.  Received some interesting correspondence from Life Line Screening for some low cost test that include:

  • Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening
  • Heart Rhythm Screening (Atrial Fibrillation)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease Screening
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening
  • Osteoporosis Risk Assessment
  • Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening
All six screening are being offered at a price of $169.00 which is a great price considering when I was going to have my cholesterol levels checked I had to fork out I believe $175.00 or was it $185.00? for just one test.

They are going to be in town for just one day but you had to call to pre-register which I did but was told I had to pay in advance to get an appointment.  I thanked him kindly and hung up.  I don't like to pre-pay for anything and for all I know it could be a scam.

Which leads to my question...has anyone in the blogsphere heard of this company or been tested by this outfit?

Whether it snows or not it is cold out there.  Bundle up and stay warm.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
