Beer / Turkey Leg / Loaded baked potato

It has been warm, cloudy, humid and muggy.  Last night I did not even need my covers.  This morning it rained making it even more humid.  We are supposed to have temperatures in the high 80's to low 90's with rain all week.

I had every intention of going to Walmart but got a late start and as much as I am still incredulous about...Del Rio now has a rush hour and I am done with those!

Decided I would go to little HEB instead to buy a six-pack for the basketball games this evening. When I was at HEB this past Sunday I was not able to purchase beer because it was not noon yet.

A 16 oz six-pack of Natural Light sells for $4.99 but they had a special on 30-packs of the same brand for $16.98 making that a Best Buy.  Had an employee place it on my cart as I can not lift one without throwing my back out.

I was hungry so decided I would head to Hot Pit Bar-b-q and buy me a turkey leg that I could shred and eat with my salad.

While there decided I would also buy a loaded baked potato and divide it into four portions for later in the week.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Early start to my day

I once again hurt my back this weekend was in terrible pain and spent most of the time laying down on my zero gravity recliner popping Paracetamol. Unfortunately, it was all my fault as I spotted a perfectly good cinder block in the debris pile that hopefully, Pollito will one day take to the dump. I knew the minute I picked it up that I had made a mistake.

With Christmas coming up I had to get to the grocery store as soon as possible to avoid the masses. Today I felt better so made an early morning run to HEB.  Stopped at the Hot Pit Bar-b-q afterward and picked up a lunch plate for mother and a turkey leg for myself, it sure was good!  Was back home before noon.

I knew beer prices would be on the rise due to climate change and its effect on the barley crop but I did not expect it to go up so soon.  Since these days I can only lift a 6-pack I spotted a way cheaper beer Frio Light Pilsner for $$3.97.  I had bought some a couple of years ago when HEB first started carrying it in their stores...back then it sold in 30 packs ...somewhere in this blog is a picture of it along with the very affordable price.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Got up very early this morning to cancel an appointment I had no idea mother had as I had not written it down on my calendar. Yesterday I received a reminder on our answering machine after we got back from her wound therapy session.  I was fortunate to be able to re-schedule it without facing a $25.00 fee for canceling without giving a 24-hour notice.

Needed to buy some over the counter items but rather than go to a super packed HEB decided to go to CVS across the street.  Goodness, they are very expensive!  Since I had initially ruled out HEB reluctantly made my way to Walmart expecting it to be as jammed packed...thankfully that was not the case...yeah!

Since there is no way I am going to cook a turkey, headed to Hot Pit Bar-b-q across the street from HEB but it did not open until 11:00 a.m.  After my trip to Walmart drove back to buy some turkey legs but someone beat me to them and they only had one left...so mother and I will share it tomorrow.

Gasoline prices only went down by one cent, the going price around town today was $2.18 per gallon for unleaded gasoline which is a real bargain in comparison to other parts of the state and nation.

I want to wish all my readers and their loved ones a Very Happy Thanksgiving.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

WIFI / Bar-B-Que

With the rains of Friday and Saturday and the weekend crowds, I had postponed my trip to town.  Have been having problems opening up a document using Acrobat even though I downloaded the latest version.  Decided to try it at the library...lord and behold, I could open it there!

Val Verde County Library in Del Rio, Texas

I am aware that I suffer from CRS...but I know I have been to the library on more than one occasion this year.  When I walked in the first thing I saw was this WIFI sign...I have moaned and groaned on this blog about how our library does not have WIFI when even small town libraries do.  I asked the guy at the front desk when they got it...his response was...A YEAR AGO!   Now I do not want to call him a liar but that is not true!

If you recall I had Cricket as my ISP and it was worthless...almost as slow as my former dial-up service.  If I wanted to watch a video or open a big file I had to go to the library.  I have only had Road Runner since late October 2012...right before my trip to Terlingua.  So no...don't be telling me it has been a year...grrrrrrrr!

These now two empty lots to the right of the library will be where hopefully the new addition will be built.  It is really needed as this library was built in 1969, and the town has grown a lot since then.  Hopefully it will be approved in the November 2013 elections but it has been a political hot potato for decades.

On these two lots sat two beautiful old houses that the city
demolished after it acquired them.

This is a beautiful  tree that has been here for ages.
On the blogs I follow there has been a lot of talk about Bar-B-Que lately.  Barney of Old Fat Man Adventures http://ofmadventures.blogspot.com/2013/05/good-eats-again.html and Dave of Living Out Here http://livingouthere.blogspot.com/2013/05/lunch-report-coopers-old-time-pit-bar-b.html

It is no wonder I have had B-B-Q on my mind.  Went and got my usual brisket plate and got Mom her smoked turkey leg.  While there is another big national place in town and I think one going towards the Lake...this one is across the street from HEB, is close to us and most importantly it is locally owned.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
