Statins

I have been worried about the side effects of taking Statins to lower my cholesterol levels.  While I have taken them in the past and every individual is affected differently...my main concern was that I was able to notice an immediate effect on my memory or rather loss of it.

While I reported this to my doctor he did not seem to give it much importance and he was happy that my cholesterol had gone down significantly.  I remember vividly him saying "Crestor is your drug!"  While it might have been my drug it wasn't my pocketbook's drug and with no insurance and it costing over $200.00 for a 30 day supply...I simply quit taking it.

Earlier this year I suffered through some crippling pain in my legs. This time I went to see a doctor in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico (across the border from Del Rio, Texas).  He ordered the usual blood work and of course high cholesterol raised its ugly little head once more along with a long list of other "high levels" maladies.

There are many home remedies out in cyber space to lower cholesterol but to be honest it is easier to just swallow a pill and much cheaper if I buy said pill  in Mexico.

In my research I have come across so many studies that are down right scary but the bottom line is that Statins are not good for you and could possibly do more harm than good.

One of my readers was kind enough to send me this link which I found very interesting and informative.  For example why don't doctors tell you that if you take Statins you should also take CoQ10 supplements or if you are over 40 Ubiquinol.

This link also talks about two foods that will dramatically lower you cholesterol. Thank you C.A. Voigt :)

Statins and Parkinson's disease

I hate it when I have time on my hands because I will undoubtedly spend it watching YouTube videos or reading health related articles and then going into a panic. Such was the case today as I read about people who take cholesterol lowering medication, also known as statins, then stopped and developed Parkinson's disease.  Just last year I read where the opposite was the case...who to believe?

Why do I bring this up?  I firmly believe statins caused my CRS or contributed greatly to it...that is why I quit taking them a couple of years back.  As you will recall my trip to the doctor in Mexico did not bring me good news and once again I had to get back on them. Been considering not taking them anymore as soon as my stash runs out...guess more research is in my foreseeable future.

It has been awfully hot, as I type this it is still 89 degrees at 1:05 a.m.  I have been hiding out and only going outside for very short periods of time.  We reached a high of 100 degrees / 38 Celsius.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Trip to Town

Went by the library this afternoon and there were only two people using the temporary computers, so the guy in charge told us we could exceed the 20 minute time limit as long as there were no other people waiting to use them.

The library uses Road Runner that I have always heard was super fast but actually it is no faster than my ISP that I am always complaining about.  I guess I cannot expect them to be like AT & T high speed Internet that I had when I lived in Houston, sigh!

Swung by the main post office and the building is starting to show its age, don’t know when it was built but it was here when we moved to Del Rio. Was glad to see that they put in a little landscaping and spruced it up a bit.

Went to pick up a couple of things at HEB and immediately noticed that the price of gas had gone up ten cents overnight, it was now $3.79. That’s what I get for not having filled up yesterday when I had the chance.

My CRT (Can’t Remember Sh*t) syndrome is getting worst or the gas prices adversely affected me.  Needed to go to the bank but it totally slipped my mind.  Didn’t remember until I got home, now you know why I don’t want to take any more cholesterol lowering medication.  They contain Statins, which affect your memory.  I don’t know what is worst to suffer a heart attack or stroke by not taking the medication or to take it and suffer from dementia.  Either way you look at it, it is a no win situation.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Missed Appointment

I cannot believe I missed my doctor’s appointment on Tuesday.  I cannot blame this on my CRS syndrome as I was cognizant of the fact that I had an appointment just wrote it in my calendar on the wrong day.  Was asked on another blog what CRS stood for when I made a comment.

CRS = Can’t Remember Doodoo (ok it’s another word but I’m being nice)

I learned my lesson a couple of years back when I took a day off to attend a doctor’s appointment and had to drive all the way to the Medical Center in Houston, fight traffic, pay to park and then be told that the doctor did not come in.  Pissed me off to no end that they did not have the courtesy to notify me.  Now I call to make sure my appointment is still on.

I love my doctor but his staff is another matter.  They used to call to remind the patient that they had an appointment the day before.  Mind you I am not blaming them but what makes me mad is when they tell me that they DID call.  I hate lies especially when I was home and we do have an answering machine in case we weren’t and there is also the caller ID and no call was received.

Remember last month when I went to HEB to have my cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose levels checked and they all came back badly?  Well I have been doing a lot of research online and now I am not so sure I want to take cholesterol-lowering medications.  Besides being expensive they have a lot of side effects one of them is memory loss and another increase glucose levels, which can lead to diabetes.

Like Mom says, “medications cure one thing but bring on others illnesses”.  Need to do some more research.
