First a Bear, now a Mountain Lion

You can tell I live in a small city when the whole town is abuzz about the mountain lion that was shot this weekend when it made its way into town.  A couple of months back it was a bear who was tranquilized and later released in Big Bend State Park.

Now it was a mountain lion that had to be put down because it was roaming around two school campuses (it was night, no kids were in danger).  They had to shoot him four times before he finally died.

Per the experts this is a result of last year’s severe drought that has made these animals come closer to the city limits looking for water and an easy meal of dogs and cats.  The newspaper made no mention if anyone had their pets victimized. Pretty big cat too between 125 and 140 pounds.

A part from a trip to HEB and Dollar Tree, not much else going on.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. Too bad for the cat, he shouldn't be roaming the streets, he was desperate I guess. Sorry to see that they could not relocate him.

    1. According to the Del Rio News Herald they had to put him down because he did not make an attempt to leave town.

I wonder how they came to that conclusion? did they ask the cat for his itinerary?

Yes, I think the poor cat must of been pretty desperate :(

  2. When I hear a story such as this, I git all GRRRRRRRR'ed. Had this cat been drag'n some little kid down the block by his leg, this cat should still be alive today.
I can see it now, one skinny starv'n an' dy'n of thirst three month old mountain loin crawl'n up to a dish of water. Fifty police officers and the SWAT team surround and open fire with thousands of rounds of bunker buster bullets, hollow point target practice .357 magnums, high powered sniper rifles.....bullets fly'n all directions....citizens flee'n for cover. And one lone officer scream'n "GIT ON THE GROUND".
It could happen that way ya know. Or they could have just tranquilized it like the bear that's happy foot'n it in Big Bend.

    1. It also crossed my mind until I read the article.

Here is the insensitive part of the newspaper article and I quote "Because the animal did not attack, no tests are being conducted on the cat, which was dispose of at the city landfill."

  4. Sorry for the delay. I finally got around to posting a picture of the newspaper article on the mountain lion's demise and a close up.
