Virtual Happy Hour

It is not often that I get to talk to my best friend for an extended amount of time except when we meet up in Terlingua and for those long-time followers you know that I am going on three years of not being able to attend the annual Terlingua Chili Cook-off.

She and her boyfriend have been in Galveston since last Thursday checking out a new RV Resort.  We were texting but my arthritic fingers can not keep up with an experienced texter.  So we decided to have a "Virtual Happy Hour".  It was so nice to be able to talk to her while sharing a virtual beer.  We visited for over three hours finally calling it a night at 3:08 a.m.  No small wonder that I did not wake up in time for my early morning walk as by that time it was just too hot.

I am signed up for automatic withdrawals on all the utilities as well as paperless billing so when I got an e-mail from the Electric Company with this month's bill I hesitated to open it.  As you know we have been having some really hellish temperatures this past month.  Finally got the nerve to do so and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as bad as I thought thanks to turning on the ceiling fans during the day.

Got another e-mail from them asking for us to conserve electricity in the following days from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as it still remains hot as hell in Texas.

We had a high of 97 a low of 76 with a heat index of 101.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

    1. The virtual Happy Hour was a blast hopefully we can do it more often.

Low electric bills will always be welcomed.

  3. I also had a great surprise with my electric bill. It went down almost $30. wonder if it is the new more efficient motor, also not keeping it as cool as I like it to be but comfortable.
Nice to catch up with friends and a virtual happy hour.

    1. Glad your electric bill also went down, I was dreading it big time.

It was nice to catch up with what has been going on in our lives as it is rare that either one of us has the luxury to spend so much time on the phone in one sitting.

  4. "Virtual" is ok, but I much prefer a happy hour with a drink in my hand! My electric bill is higher than I would like, but at my age and living in a hot climate like Sacramento, I figure it's worth it to stay healthy and comfortable. With our temps going down a bit I hope to be able to minimize the hours of using a/c.

    1. Gypsy, maybe I am using the wrong terminology. We were texting and then switched to chatting over the phone I could see her and she could see me and the beers were for real both on her end and mine.

I think you are very wise to keep the A/C at a temperature that is comfortable to you. We live in a hot desert climate so the A/C stays turned on for months as it would cost us more to turn it off and have to re-cool the house down. You are lucky that where you live the temperature cools down at night and you get the cool breezes.
