When is this heat going to go away?

I am aware I sound like a broken record but I just can't stand these summer temperatures in the Fall. Today we had a high of 99 with a low of 77 and a heat index of 100 degrees.

There were showers in Val Verde County today but mostly in the northern part of the county.  The Texas drought report comes out every Thursday and this area is under a severe one.

Got an e-mail yesterday notifying me that Spectrum would be conducting maintenance overnight yet this morning I had a hard time going online and it was super slow.  Later learned that it was not just in Del Rio it was statewide.

Where has this week gone?  I can not believe tomorrow is already Friday!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

  1. I don't know how you can stand the relentless heat there. I believe it would be the death of me now after experiencing Montana. I don't have access and we only have about three weeks of 90* heat here.
One of your posts asks where would you live if you could live anywhere and the answer is Beaverhead Valley MT. I live on the outskirts of Dillon. And fyi..this place is crawling with TWC!! The real deal, not the drug store variety. It's a treat just to go to Safeway and watch them come and go.
We have two fabulous Mexican food places here, plus my best friend Lilly is from southern Mexico and is not just a good cook but a chef. I am treated regularly.
We are expecting a big winter storm this weekend. I am prepared and ready to bake cupcakes and concoct soup potions. Don't be afraid of the cold temps here. You learn to dress correctly and my cabin is well heated and insulated. I have a fire on now.
I know you enjoy Kahlua..I am a Bailey's gal, myself. Cheers

You certainly got my attention when I read that!:D

I used to watch an HGTV show about people who moved to Montana and built and/or bought their cabin there. I do remember the prices were very high or at least high for me.

As much as I hate the high summer temperatures in Texas, I dislike the cold even more in particular brutal cold weather. Snowstorms are not my thing. Might be a nice and cooler place to visit in the summer.

Sounds like you live in a nice little town and have put down roots. Do you have a blog? If you don't you might consider writing one bet it would make for some interesting reading.

    1. It would be wonderful not to have to own an conditioning even better not having to pay to operate one.

Do not worry about mistakes I make more than my fair share as you have probably noticed.

    1. Eventually it has to, usually right before the Chili Cook-off or when I'm already there.

I dislike hail storms they can cause so much damage.

  5. Is there any water left in your rain catchment cisterns or has it all been used/evaporated? I am planning on getting 2 installed soon.

    1. My rain catchment has been high and dry for a few weeks. Though I would not exactly refer to mine as "cisterns"...they are just plastic trash cans, lol :D

  6. Just saw where STRIPES store in Uvalde sold a lottery ticket that won $1000/week for next 20 YEARS.

I could live on that. No problema!

    1. I just heard the same thing on KENS5. I did not hear the amount as I got distracted but I think I could live on that amount as well.

  7. Can't believe you are still with such high temps. We had lots of rain from Lorena and it cooled down plenty humidity still is very high but with the cooler temps I can deal with it.

    1. I was so surprised to see how much water fell on your area and the water rescues. At least you are experiencing cooler temperatures, hopefully, it won't be long and they will go down here as well.

  8. I don't have a blog. I am only now venturing into blog world. After reading about fifty different blogs, I have chosen three, yours included. I picked yours not only because of your content but because I have read a lot of your comments on other blogs. I noticed how you pay close attention to the blogs you read and give thoughtful reply. I have noticed so many who just dash off quick replies and you do not.
I may try to start a blog in the future, once I learn more.
For the past nine years I participate in a Southern Louisiana talk show (no politics allowed) called La Tasse De Cafe, KVPI Radio out of Ville Platte. It is a sort of oral blog. Happy to say I am quite popular and have a fan club...go figure. I enjoy people, but not up close and personal? Been burned too many times. But I can be too much of a hermit, so I wanted to try this.
I hope this is not too much info. :)

    1. What a nice compliment, thank you! I have always felt that if I am going to follow a blog I am going to do it wholeheartedly and participate fully.

As you know I am "computer challenged" I Googled the station you referenced and it said I can download it in an App...can you do that on a computer rather than a cellphone? It also referenced a Facebook page but I do not have a Facebook account.

BTW...it is not too much info. It is a better way of getting to know you. I do not think you would have any problems starting a blog or getting a following.

CNN had a special tonight regarding Ted Turner and his many ranches in Montana and how they have played a role in climate change and helping the bison population flourish.

  9. P.S. On La Tasse, I am Miss Penny. You can listen to previous shows or during the week at 8:00 a.m. (except Tues) and new callers are wildly appreciated. You don't have to speak French. Calls are kept short and just a hello and maybe your location is just fine, if you are shy. No judgements on our show.

    1. Well, Miss Penny one of these days I may give you a call if I can figure out how to do it.

  10. I use my phone (computer challenged, too) and never use any apps for anything. La Tasse starts at 8:00 a.m. your time, is one hour long. So: 605 313 0220. A recording will happen..do nothing and when it finishes, you will hear the show. Or, can press one when recording comes on and it is live streaming. Show starts with the Word of the Day. On Monday it will be Mr. Jim (he is 83!)and Mike Perrone on the controls. Both are sweethearts. So then, to call in, disconnect and dial 337 363 2124. Someone, usually Becky or Cheryl, will answer "KVPI" and you just say "I want to be on the air" and they will put you on hold until it's handy to take your call. When it is your turn, Mr Jim will say (sounds like ) "Que s e ke pale?" (what is on your mind?) So then you say something like "This is Belinda..I am new caller from Del Rio Tx." Maybe (I heard about this show from Miss Penny. Then they will respond. So you can tell the weather where you are or that Del Rio is the home of former XERF..home of Wolfman Jack, cause we have all heard and talked about him before. Etc. We are all older people, and easily amused. Then, after the show, if you wish to listen to what you said, or missed while you were on hold, call the 605 313 0220 number and follow the prompts. Would be #2 for Mon show. I do hope you will call, I would love to hear your voice. I do not call every show, usually twice a week. Once with Mr Jim and then Mr Charlie on Thursday or Friday. We are heard all over the world. It is like walking into an old time cafe and listening to the old people. We are a very loving and tolerant bunch. Especially with new callers.:)

  11. You can put my comments on your blog or just read for yourself and not publish?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The reason your comment did not publish is that in order to fight spammers my posts automatically go to "comment moderation" mode after three days.

It will give you a short message alerting to that but it pops up so fast and if you are not looking for it you would not notice.

When that happens I have to manually approve each comment but I usually do not go online until late at night.

  12. P.S. I left instructions on how to call in/listen on previous post, but don't see it. If it did not get through, I can repeat. Also replied to your other blog, but don't see it? Still new at this, plus we have snow and this can wreak havoc with the phones here.

    1. It went into comment moderation but I have now posted it. I see your comment in the José José post perhaps the snow delayed it?

Hopefully some other bloggers will also be interested in calling your station.
