A cold and rainy day / New Delivery Service in town

I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window, I ignored it and pulled the covers over my head.  After about two hours of steady rain decided I better go check the usual places where we have leaks. It rained for a couple of hours and even though it is much needed in this area I do not know why it has to be feast or famine.

It was cold or at least cold for me! We had a low of 55 and a high of 58 degrees.

Del Rio News-Herald our local newspaper is cutting back their circulation to two days a week.

Favor, a Texas-based company, is expanding to the city of Del Rio with delivery services available beginning Friday, April 3, 2020. Just in the nick of time.

Day 7 / A Cold and Miserable Day

Mother Nature had one last hurrah up its sleeve and today was it. We had light rain last night that extended on and off to all day today.  We had a low of 54 and a high of 58 degrees.  I am relishing in these temperatures as next week we are expected to jump into summertime and looking to be in the '90s.

Today is Day 7 of my self-isolation and though I spent zero time outside due to the rain and cooler temperatures I feel pretty good.  I received an e-mail from Sirloin Stockade...my favorite weekend breakfast spot...letting me know they are closed until further notice.  That is too bad but I knew it was coming.

I was reading The Del Rio News-Herald...our local newspaper online version and was SHOCKED that they allowed me to read news stories I had an interest in...of course after a select few they blocked you and asked you to subscribe.

In the few articles I read, I learned that the Val Verde County Library is closed until further notice, we have a ban on the number of people that can be in one place at a time, etc.etc. glad to learn our local leaders are taking this pandemic seriously.

Julio's goes Nationwide

With these temperatures, I have not been doing much to blog about.  Drove into town to pick up some groceries to tie us over for the long holiday weekend as I do NOT plan to leave the house.

On my last trip to Ciudad Acuña, I bought several heads of lettuce at the equivalent of .42 American cents. Today I purchased one for $1.29 at HEB...I could have bought three for the same price in Mexico.

Avocados are very expensive so passed on them and I can not buy them in Mexico as you can not legally bring them back to the USA.  I even bought me a bottle of wine.  Though I must admit I kept on hearing the voice of my late mechanic saying to me..."Belinda why are you buying f*#)&#g wine when you prefer beer?".  Potty mouth and all...I sure do miss him :-(

I do not know what they are called, you know the machines where you buy newspapers from.  Anyway, I spotted a headline of interest on the Del Rio News-Herald outside of HEB...but since I am frugal...passed on buying it and decided to head to the library to read it for free.  If Billy Bob still reads my blog I am convinced that he would be cracking up by now.  I do not recall his exact saying but something to the effect of being so tight I needed to be wound?  Lol, Billy Bob, I miss you and your blog!

This was the headline that I wanted to read.  It makes me so proud but mostly because it shows that hard work and effort can pay off and it puts Del Rio on the national map.

Wherever you are reading me from if you see a Julio's product you know they come from Del Rio, Texas.  Wish Don Julio had lived to see this day.

Today we had a high of 104, low of 77.

Practically No Damage

Was  up early surveying the aftermath of yesterday's strong winds. Actually it did us a favor by knocking down a small dead tree.

We also had a couple of branches that broke from some of the mesquite trees.

So as you can see we were very fortunate.  The neighbor down the road lost a good part of the shingles on his roof and he was at it early making the needed repairs.

Could no longer put off my trip to the laundromat.  While waiting for the clothes I decided to walk to the nearby store and purchase our local newspaper so I could see what damages the wind caused in Del Rio and surrounding areas.  Told the clerk how surprised I was that they still had the Sunday paper and she said that was because there is no Monday edition.  For some reason probably my CRS I forgot it was Tuesday and did not ask nor did I see today's paper on the stand, lol :D

I did however buy El Zocalo which is a very good Mexican newspaper printed in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico and whose coverage of Del Rio news and events is excellent.  All in all it appears there was some damage but nothing severe on either side of the border.
