Friends, Sleep, Rain, Hail in the Alamo City

I have been so tired lately I have actually been going to bed early and sleeping all night. I got a call from my HOA lady friend whom I had not spoken to in a long time. She suffered a stroke two years ago and at her son's behest moved in with him. Her son disconnected her landline without telling her and got her a smartphone which she hates. She is the second of my friends who have been forced to adapt to a cellphone that they neither requested nor desired.

She told me her neighbors had called to let her know that she had broken pipes in her garage and she had water running down her driveway. It brought memories of 1989 when the same thing happened to me during Christmas when I was in Del Rio. Thank goodness I had good neighbors at that time and he turned off my water.

They had a hard time getting a plumber to come to fix the pipes she was on a three-week waiting list until a friend of her son's referred someone to them.  I was so emotionally drained after our talk I went to bed at nine o'clock!

Today I spoke to my best friend for three hours...it had been a long time since I had spoken to her...we keep in touch by e-mail. Her boyfriend and she are always taking their RV on the road. As a matter of fact, they had left it at a campground and came home to take care of some business and will be going back shortly.

This morning I cleaned out the metal as well as the plastic water catchment containers as we are expecting rain this evening. While I spoke to her the wind began to howl and we had a short but heavy and much-needed downpour.

So far the evening rains have failed to materialize but they cut into the evening programming to alert San Antonio residents of hail for some parts of the Alamo City.  Hope it does not cause a lot of damage.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

You can skip this post...just venting...

When I lived in Houston, I worked 60 plus hours a week in the oil industry for well over two decades. I never phantom that after closing that chapter of my life, things would get even more stressful. How could that be?  I was leaving the big city for a small border town, I would live at my mother's home and could look after her.  An added bonus would be that I was across the border from Mexico where I could receive quality medical care at the fraction of the price of the United States.

Let me tell you...my stressful former life pales in comparison to my current reality.  It might seem like I am complaining...I suppose I am just venting.  I do not like to preach to my readers but I will only say one thing...please take care of yourself and your health.  If you are lucky enough to have a family, children and a spouse please do it for them. OK, I will get off my soapbox now!

A few days ago my lady HOA neighbor called and left me at least 15 messages both at mother's home phone as well as my cell phone.  We were in San Antonio as we had an early morning appointment and chose to stay overnight.

Those that know me are aware that I HATE cell phones.  I never turn mine on unless I have to make a call. After getting home and listening to all these messages from the same person and not knowing why she sounded so hysterical...I thought the worst!

Dang, my head started spinning and I felt like I wanted to pass out thinking the worst. All types of scenarios came to my mind...did they break into my house, did it burn down, is someone squattering on my property, was there a shooting?

The reality, by comparison, was less dramatic than my overactive imagination. My neighbor's tree fell on my driveway blocking it completely and narrowingly missing the roof over my garage.  I did breath a sigh of relief at least momentarily.  You see this house has been vacant for over a decade after the death of its owner.  He never had insurance when he lived there, so there is no reason to believe his heirs have one now.

Today my same lady HOA neighbor told me that there are other branches about to fall and if they do so it will be on my roof and fence.  I have no other choice but to bite the bullet and pay for something that I should not have to...oh well :-(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Erin Popovich, she was the wife of San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. My heartfelt condolences to him and his family.

Long Nap

My neighbor the homeowners association lady called early this morning. Was rather surprised as she is definitively not a morning person.  At least it was not bad news as I tend to panic every time I get a call from one of my Houston neighbors.

Remember back in January I had a bad feeling when I was getting ready to go back home?  Well my gut feeling never fails me.  I did not blog about it because I no longer have access to Internet service in Houston since I ditched my Cricket broadband.

When I got back to Del Rio I was still too pissed off to write about it.  Turns out someone shot at my front window four times as well as the siding.  Fortunately they used a BB gun and not a real gun though it is still shattered. The lady constable and I determined that the shots had to have come from the house next door where hoodlums congregate.

This house is owned by an older gentlemen that suffers from Alzheimer's and no longer lives there.  His house was for sale for a long time and now the family has taken it off the market. They put a sign on his driveway that no cars are allowed to park...but like who is going to enforce it?

This afternoon I sat on dad's old recliner to watch the news but to my surprise did not wake up till almost 9:00 p.m.  Guess I really needed a nap :-)

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.
