I am in NBA Playoff Heaven :)

My mechanic finally talked me into signing up for Dish TV.  He knows the owner of the local store and has referred many of his customers. He had previously spoken to him about my mother's concern of a satellite dish on her roof. Though there was no way around that in order to be able to get a good signal, the installer secured it around the eaves. He accompanied me to get his $50 referral fee and I got a $50 credit to my account, a win win situation.

Year after year this house across the street from the Post Office
is the first to have blooming bouganvilleas.
I had to assure mother that I would be responsible for any damages incurred.  Last Sunday and this past Wednesday were the straw that broke the camels back.  There is no reason why I should have to listen to my Spurs on the radio or online.  These are the playoffs and I want to enjoy them and watch all the action as I cheer or utter a few choice words from the privacy of my bedroom without having my mother yell at me (when we had cable it was located in the living room).

Folks I am ready. Yesterday I watched three games and while I was ready this afternoon to watch Lebron and his Cavaliers, the first fluke appeared...there was a problem with the programming. Oh well, it is not like it was a Spurs game or I would have been highly pissed!

If you do not see me much during the next few weeks...you know I am probably in NBA playoff heaven. The Spurs game will be a late one tonight.  Wonder how many people will be calling in sick tomorrow?  Go Spurs Go!!!

I can not believe it got to 90 degrees today.  We have yet to turn on the air conditioner as a cold front should arrive tonight lowering the temperatures to the 70's.

Have not had a chance to do a post on my other blog, so here is a small update. Walter has been here since Tuesday. Dulcinea joined him for three days but they took her home yesterday.  These past couple of days would have been great for washing clothes but Walter has the bad habit of smelling and licking them so I am not going to take a chance on that.

Pedrito has turned out to be a very good watch dog. If he barks, I know it is for a reason unlike the neighbors dogs that bark at anything.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Cold front / Tumble

Hope you all had a great Christmas but I for one are glad it is over and done with.  Have been needing to go to HEB but I just have not been able to talk myself into making the trip.

Yesterday, it was a beautiful day in the 70's. Today a cold front arrived and it is gray and chilly for this part of Texas.  Not complaining though, many people up north wish they could have these temperatures.

Mom has not been feeling well.  Her iron levels have been very low and she was given vitamins that are supposed to help her but that many individuals can not tolerate.  Her doctor told her per Medicare guidelines they have to be tried first before they will pay for the more expensive IV administered ones.

She will fall asleep and when I tell her to go lay down, she will say she is not sleeping...she is just resting her eyes...when that is not the case.  I know better than to argue with her!

I was in my bedroom when I heard a terrible crash and then my mother scream.  Ran to the kitchen to find her laying on the floor.  My god it was a terrible sight to behold. Made sure she was alright as I ran to get pillows and stabilize her before I tried to move her.

I tried as hard as I could to lift her off the floor but with my bad back and in her weak state she was unable to help me.  Ran outside to see if any of the neighbors were out but it was Christmas and not many were home.  Saw a light at the neighbor across the street, he too was just about to leave but he and his son came to my aid and effortlessly lifted her off the floor.

She was fine just her arm was scraped up a bit so I cleaned up the wound and bandaged her up. One thing was clear we were NOT going to the local hospital's Emergency Room. She was lucky because she slid off the chair when she fell asleep and did not actually fall while walking.  Either way it was not a pleasant situation.

I am so glad I was home, I would hate to think of her laying on the floor for hours waiting on me to come to her rescue.  It is at times like this that I wish I had family and friends close by.

Not much else happening.  Walter has been here for almost a week but I wrote about that on his blog.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Spurs Corner

We lost the last two games but even Pop seemed to take it in stride.  The December schedule has been brutal with many back to back games, not to mention the overtime they have had to play.

I am more concerned about Kwahi's hand.  Did not like what the doctor said about not having seen an injury like that in 40 years.

Quality time with the critters

I am so looking forward to this weekend and the cold front they are predicting. Of course it will only drop to a high of 79 but that is better than the temperatures in the 100's we have been experiencing.

Past couple of nights I have had so many problems going online even using my little netbook.  If it is not some shock wave that fails or something similar to that, it is something else.  I am a woman of little to no patience...that is why I have not posted or been able to visit other blogs. Have seriously considered purchasing a Chrome book since I have read it has a much faster start up and it just works better with Blogger.

Remember I wanted to buy a cordless home phone at Target but they would not mail it to my P.O. Box?  Well, decided to buy one at a much higher price at Walmart.  It was a V-Tech and the darn thing only lasted me two weeks! Only reason I bought it was because I have had one for five years that I am very happy with...in particular the battery life. This time I took it back like I should have done with that worthless Stanley thermos.

The good thing about not going online is that it gave me a chance to sit outside and look at the beautiful moon and stars.  So looking forward to being able to do the same in Terlingua.

Ralph and Walter are happy too as I am able to spend more quality time with them.  Of course Ralph then ventures off to wherever it is he goes after I come inside.  While poor Walter has to stay in his prison :(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Mesquite Pods / Purple Sage

The heat and the wind combined to make it a stay at home day.  However, tomorrow is trash day and since mother and I hardly generate enough to even fill up the trash container half ways...I knew I had to put on my big girl panties and tackle raking those darn mesquite pods!!!

They are everywhere and the winds have only served to shake the trees and allow more to fall.  If it wasn't for Cliff and friends who cut some pesky mesquites on the northern part of the property...I would really be crying in my milk.  Thank you guys!!!

I had a near accident when I dropped the camera.  I was trying to photograph Walter and the beautiful purple sage that has began to bloom after the recent rains.  Thought it was a goner but I finally managed to fix it...thus allowing the lens to go back into its compartment.

The horse flies were getting to him so he started shaking his head and ruined his photo op...but the sage is still quite pretty!

When I finished raking it was too dark to take a decent picture or for that matter bundle them up.  I guess that means I will have to get up early tomorrow morning and finish the job. :(

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Whoever heard of watering trees in February?

I have been busy as a bee.  Speaking of bees...well more like wasps...they are already out and about and buzzing me!

Mother has been making comments about how full and lush our neighbor's trees are because he waters them every day.  Like I told her...he only has two trees...you have a lot more than that.  The only reason he waters them is because he is a "Nosy Rosie" who runs and grabs his water hose whenever he sees something so the neighbors wont think he is prying :D

Guess what I did this afternoon?  Yeah...I watered her trees and plants! I also hosed down our vehicles and my wonderful Kodiak canvas tent after those wicked winds on Thursday.  Made me wonder how strong the winds were down in Terlingua?

Mother's mini van is running good after her recent tune-up. He also fixed the lock on the sliding door and sold us some new (to us) hubcaps that make her look much better.  Hopefully the mini van as well as Dad's old car wont need his services anytime soon.

I have been thinking about starting a separate blog so I can document what is going on in Walter's world and maybe one day Val Verde County will form an animal abuse unit or at least follow up on cases that have been reported to them.  I am still kicking that idea around in my head.

Both last night and today a different horse (of the three that came last week) has come by to eat his hay and it has made him go crazy.  I don't blame him one bit.  His owner is not dumb, he knows if he has bales of hay outside of his corral, the sheriff will not be stopping by.  Apparently these horses that have come for a visit, are hungry too.  If the Deputies could only see that the bales do not get consumed at the rate that a horse of his stature would normally eat.

I heard Walter do his yell (sorry I do not know proper horse terminology) and I ran outside.  If I could hear it two lots down how come his owners did not?  Had to yell for that kid even though his father's vehicle was there.  I almost died laughing when he got a rope and was going to try to lasso that horse...yeah like he really knows how...horse didn't wait, he took off...jajajajajaja :D

Their family dog had the nerve to bark at me!

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

First 2013 Trip to Houston

Have I mentioned how I really do not feel like going to Houston?  Well, I don't but I have postponed this trip long enough.  Have been packing all day and my mother's living room looks as if I were going camping to Terlingua instead of heading East on I-10.

I do not know why I have been feeling so uneasy like some type of sixth sense.  For good measure I packed my gun this time around.  Had everything on my checklist but my house keys.  Could not find them for the life of me.

I have so many boxes and when company comes, I have to shuffle them around and in a hurry I get sloppy and put important things in places where inevitably I will not remember.  Such was the case today, it was a miracle I found them.  Of course one of my neighbors has an extra set but she takes so many medications for her aliments that she is sound asleep most of the time and can't hear the telephone.

This evening I went to say good-bye to Walter and fed him a little extra horse pellets for good measure.  I am literally beat and I need to get some shut eye for the long drive tomorrow.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Cloudy and cold

Well the snow the forecasters predicted thankfully did not materialize.  I was worried about Walter and had hoped his worthless owner would have at least put a tarp to keep him dry.  He must be unemployed as he has been home since November.

Since I no longer have a broadband connection, I will be without internet when I am in Houston.  I have therefore been checking out the grocery store specials so I can stock up on the many things we need but that are too expensive in Del Rio.

For those new to my blog, Del Rio, Texas only has one grocery store that being H.E.B.  In Houston this same store has lower prices specially at their low cost store Joe V's  http://www.joevsmartshop.com/.  A 5 pound bag of russet potatoes is going for $1.37 that same exact bag of potatoes is selling for .50 cents, yeap you heard right 2/$1.00 with an additional $15.00 purchase which with their low prices is doable.

Sure wish they offered bargains like that here in Del Rio where the people do not make the same wages as they do in Houston.

Having no other choice had to go to HEB to pick up a couple of items and who would I run into? None other than that worthless plumber!!!  His wife and him were right in front of me, so I could not pretend I did  not see them. Guess Santa did not grant me my wish with regards to him either, as Ben in Texas used to say grrrrrrrrrr!

Today it was cloudy and cold with the occasional sprinkle but tomorrow promises to be a much prettier but specially warmer day.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

My MagicJack Plus

Since Santa forgot about me again this year...I decided to get me my own Christmas present, that being a MagicJack Plus.  I already had a regular MagicJack but it did not work too well with my prior ISP and worthless broadband connection.

One good thing about our Road Runner service is that I can now use this device to call my friends back home since we do not have long distance service on our regular landline phone either in Del Rio or in my house in Houston.

With the MagicJack Plus you do not have to have your computer on to make calls. You just plug it to your modem or router and then plug a corded or cordless phone and you have a stand alone telephone to make and receive calls 24/7.

I slept like a baby literally after downing some NyQuil...woke up at 2:30 p.m. but did not actually get out of bed till 2:45 p.m.  Been a long time since I had done that, guess my body needed the shut eye.

There has been a flurry of activity by Walter's corral.  In the past couple of days I have seen his owner swinging a pick ax and clearing some brush. My mother told me he was at it since this morning and it appears he cleared a lot of brush on his side of our fence line.

I also saw him putting hay inside the corral...wonder what gives?  Did Santa grant my first wish but instead of giving him a new owner made this one more compassionate?  Nah...I don't think so either...shucks!

Wanted to welcome John and Ellen to the blog roll.  They have a very nice blog full of beautiful pictures. Check them out at http://connectedtothevinephotography.blogspot.com/

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Couple of Hours Before the End of the World

Is anybody really worried about the world ending tomorrow?  I must admit I'm not or for that matter know anyone who is.  Per television station WOAI in San Antonio if the world ends tomorrow, it should officially do so at 5:11 a.m. Central Standard Time.  So the clock is ticking...tick...tick...tick.... :D

My cousin is spending the holidays with us, so I have been busy cleaning house and getting everything ready for his arrival.  My bedroom doubles as a guest room and I am so tired of moving boxes back and forth, I think I will just leave it as is when he departs.

It is supposed to get in the mid 20's this evening a big change from just two days ago.  Poor Walter is out there in the elements with no shelter.  I don't know if reincarnation exits but if it does, I hope his worthless owner comes back as a horse and is treated just the way he has treated his animals.

Good night...it may be our last...jajajajaja.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams :-)

Always the Procrastinator :-(

Have received a couple of telephone calls as well as e-mails wanting to know when I am going to start posting pictures of the Chili cook-off on the blog.  Well...what can I tell you?  You should know by now that if I can put something off......I more than likely will :-(

This is how it looked like going to Terlingua

Seriously, my friends know I keep a journal and write every last detail down as to not forget, what with my CRS (Can't Remember Doodoo) syndrome and all.  The problem is that my journal is sitting in my yet to be unpacked car.  Did you think I was kidding when I said I was a procrastinator?

Believe it or not this was organized...you can imagine how bad it looked coming home.
Only reason I do not have more stuff in the front is because I had to be able to use the side mirrors as the back mirror was impossible to see out of.

For those of you who have never been to the cook-off...there are campfires everywhere and there is an extremely good chance you will be around one or several during your stay.  They are a lot of fun but it isn't apparent until you are unpacking your clothes at home that the smoke makes you want to gag.  If you make the mistake of bringing them inside your home...your house will stink too!

We have company but even if we did not, I cannot bring anything inside until it has been washed. My mother said the neighbors dropped Walter off Sunday (Nov 4th) at least that is when she saw him and did not take him home till this morning (Nov 10th). He has the habit of smelling whatever clothes is hanging on the clothesline and then licking them. As tired as I am...I do not feel up to washing clothes twice.

Hopefully I can set up my tent tomorrow so I can clean and air it out and then unload my vehicle...but I am not making any promises.  Another thing you will find is that you will be very tired after spending eleven days partying in the desert.  I am not one to take naps but I have been napping for days.  Went to bed at 6:30 p.m. yesterday until the phone rang, talked for a while and went right back to sleep.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

The Evil Deed is Done

Worked all day Monday and Tuesday until I finally got my taxes done.  Had paperwork strewn all over the coach, coffee table and the folding table that I set up. Took my paperwork to the CPA on Wednesday and picked them up yesterday (Friday).  He filed them electronically so the information has been received by some IRS computer and now all I have to do is wait for my refund to arrive in the same fashion.

While I was working on my taxes I heard a lawnmower close by.  That elevated my blood pressure that was already through the roof, thinking that it might be Mata Gatos (mother’s worthless yardman) as I thought I had made it clear that we did not need his services anymore.

Fortunately it was NOT him but Joe, mother’s nice neighbor from across the street that was mowing the grass on the street side of the fence.  He had done that for her last year as well.  We need to thank him but I have not seen him outside since then.

I am currently sitting on the back porch swatting flies and mosquitoes and with the winds from the south getting a whiff of Walter’s poop from his corral.  He disappeared Sunday and did not show up until today.  I think his owner took him to some relative’s house.

Heard through the grapevine that his wife is not too happy with the visits from the sheriff and wants him to sell Walter but he pretty much told her that is NOT going to happen.  She does not care if he gives him away, sells him or whatever…she just wants him GONE.  That explains a lot.  I now know why they do not feed him or water him when the husband leaves to go work out of town.

So why am I sitting outside under these conditions?  Because only outside will the ISP give me a half decent signal and just as I typed this the darn thing went dormant again!

You have no idea what a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders since the taxes have been completed.  Now I can concentrate on other issues like whether or not to go to Houston and my upcoming trip to Terlingua.

Have a great Saturday.

Walter Update

The last time Walter was at our house was on July 28th when he escaped through the downed back fence.  This is the post I did about it

After that incident he disappeared for about two weeks.  When I inquired about his whereabouts the owners kid told me Walter had been sent to their cousin’s house.  They brought him back two days before I left for Houston thus had not had a chance to see him.

The day I returned from Houston I saw there was a new bale of hay outside of his corral.  Two days later mother and I walked over to see him and I noticed how thin he was and how sad his eyes looked.  There were flies around his eyes, his sores and practically everywhere.  His owner does not get rid of his poop instead he dries it out in the sun and then lays it as ground dirt inside his corral.  Is this an acceptable practice?

I try to make sure no trees grow close to the cinder block fence that divides our properties but two years ago I let some mesquite grow in that area to provide some shade for the corral.  At the time his owner had four horses and they had no shade to speak of.  Walter looked desperate and as I got closer I could see a barrel of water was downed and when I asked him if the other barrel had water…it was like he understood…he went over and knocked it down to let me see that there was none.

I came back with a hose, a five gallon bucket as well as my pruning shears and chopped down the mesquite limbs so I could hold the bucket to his face…of course I only put 2 gallons as that is all my back will let me lift.  I filled that bucket 6 or 7 times until he was full.  It made me wonder how long he had been without water and why.  Came back that afternoon and this time he drank about 10 gallons.

What really alarmed me was seeing that he had not been fed in two days and yesterday I saw him eating his own feces!  That is when I called Deputy Mendez but did not get a call back until this afternoon from Sergeant Lopez who informed me that Deputy Mendez was on leave so I had to go into detail once more with him.

This morning I walked over there and saw that they had given him some hay…a small portion I might add for a horse his size.  Noticed that his owner is either on vacation or he no longer works out of town.  This makes me even madder that being in town he does not give a hoot about his horse’s welfare.  People like him should not be allowed to own any kind of animals.

Oh yeah…that bale of hay…well it looks like it is still new.  Think it is just there to fool the sheriff’s that drive-by.  It is a shame that they cannot give animal abuse cases continuity in Val Verde County and offenders go unpunished to continue abusing their animals.  This particular individual has been doing it for years.

Good night.  May there be justice for Walter as well as other animals in the same circumstances as him.

Truncated Plans

Woke up on my own before the yapping Chihuahuas had a chance to do it for me.  In Del Rio we only have trash pick-up one day a week and as much as they charge (more than the water) I try to make sure it is full, even if it involves having to rake mesquite pods.

The phone rang around 8:30 a.m. it was one of mother’s friends who asked if they could come by at noon.  As most people she likes for her house to look decent when she has company over.  On my last trip to Houston I brought down even more boxes to her house...well those boxes had to be relocated.  So no early trip to the Cricket store front.  Decided I would go after they left.

I have yet to decide what is worst…people that show up at your doorstep unannounced or those who call but show up hours after the accorded time.  Mother was about to take her nap when they finally showed up.  These people have cell phones, would it have killed them to take 30 seconds to call and tell her they were running late?  Like three and half-hours late!

Maybe if they had offered an apology it would not have ticked me off so bad…but nothing…no excuse offered not even a mention of it.  At least the new mechanic called to tell me he was sick and would not be able to make it.  Guess my plans are on hold for tomorrow as well!

Hope your day was much better than mine.  I have been on pins and needles about Walter.  Called Deputy Mendez but he never called back.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Help is on its way for Walter

I went to the Val Verde County Sheriffs office in person because I wanted to handle this face to face with the deputy that is in charge of animal abuse cases for the county.  He was not there but I waited an hour and a half for him to arrive.  It did not matter, as I was willing to wait as long as it took. I was fortunate to be in an air-conditioned building while poor Walter was out in the elements with very green and slimy water.

This is the first time in my life that I have gone inside this building, as I never had a reason to come before.  It is an old building and the waiting area is to one side making the receptionist who is behind a glass partition forget about you real fast as she did in my case. The whole time I was there no other people came in except officers.

I was surprised Deputy Mendez was so young but he seemed knowledgeable and was willing to help Walter and that is all that matters.  I showed him pictures of the deplorable corral, the slimy water and of the sores on his body.

He said he had to go take pictures of his own when he comes to speak to the horse’s owner.  Said it is not going to be resolved over night, as he has to give the owner ten days to correct all the things he finds wrong.  He then has to make another visit and give him another ten days and if at the end of 30 days he has not done enough to correct the situation then he can file felony charges against him.  I am so happy for Walter!

The other day I drove by the library and thought I saw a sign about computer classes so went by today and sure enough they are going to start classes for beginners in August. Asked Mom if she would like to sign up and to my surprise she said YES!

I wanted to publicly thank Leilani for the special interest she has shown in trying to reunite Chewy the lost Chihuahua with her owners.  It takes a very special kind person to see a little doggie on a blog picture and do all the detective work and research she has done out of the kindness of her heart to reunite a little girl with her dog.  Thank you!

Guess gas prices could not keep going down forever.  I filled up at $3.13 on Wednesday and today it had gone up to $3.19.  Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Who knew horse pee killed mesquite trees?

When I got back last Friday the first thing I noticed was that the only mesquite tree (more like a twig) that served as shade for Walter was dead.  How can this be?  Mom said Walter only came around twice and the last time the owner’s kid let him out he went to eat grass along the median and almost got hit by a car.  So the kid started yelling at him and took him back to his corral and has not let him out since.

I do not know much of anything about horses but the times he has been here and I have been supervising him…I noticed they pee a lot!  Wish I had know that horse urine would kill mesquite trees, I figured NOTHING would kill those darn trees!  Need to go talk to the owner maybe he can tie Walter to one of the many trees we have and kill a whole lot of them :D

This afternoon I went to his corral and he just looked at me with his sad eyes.  Noticed that one of his water barrels was on its side and another had been taken out and was not even within reach of him apart from having a cover on top, so I am guessing it did not even have water.

This is all the hay he has left

I am at a loss as who to call to complain anymore.  At least it rained some so he got a little relief.

Yesterday we had to go run a lot of errands around town including taking Mom to get some blood work done as tomorrow morning she has to go have some routine x-rays at the hospital.  We have to be there early and neither mother nor I are morning people.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Issues with Cricket

I have been having a lot of problems getting my pictures to upload to Photobucket.  They have taken up to five hours and sometimes could not load them up at all because my Cricket Broadband (more like dial-up) would go dormant.  Other times when I was writing a comment and would hit the publish button, what I wrote would go to “cyber comment heaven”.  It would then proceed to inform me that I was not connected to the Internet.

Last night was the final straw when I was not able to connect at all.  Called their worthless technical support around 2:30 a.m. only to get a recording saying they were closed.  I recall when I had MSN dial-up… I was able to get in touch with them 24/7.

This morning I was finally able to reach them and was told my modem was the culprit and I needed to go to the store to pick up a new one. Since I have insurance it would cost me $20.00 plus tax.  Wonder what it would cost if I did not have insurance?  Posed the question to the lady and she told me she had no idea.  Talk about knowledgeable sales staff!

A trip to the only Cricket store in town on a Saturday with the limited parking space as well as sitting capacity of that store was not exactly what I wanted to do today but oh well… I do like my Internet…slow and all.  To think that in Houston I have four Cricket stores within a 5-mile radius of my house, including one that I can even walk to if need be.

When I got back home there was this small cat with black stripes curled up by my chair in the front porch.  At first I thought someone had dumped him/her but then I realized it was about 3 or 4 months old and very skinny.  It broke my heart to see this poor cat but right now I cannot take in any pets.

Walter came by but he got spooked when he saw me and retreated back home.  He came back several times afterwards but he never did touch the water I left out for him.  Poor horse being out in the sun has probably fried his brain and he does not know who I am anymore.  At least he does remember there is plenty of grass for him to eat here.

Going price for gas today in Del Rio, Texas

I am pretty tired this evening so I think I am going to turn in early…well that is early for me.  By that I mean I won’t be going to bed at 5:00 a.m.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Well, I really messed up!!

Came to update my blog when I am greeted with blank spaces in one of the posts I was most proud of “The Sage is Blooming”.  Turns out I deleted some pictures in Photobucket that I thought were duplicates and I guess they were the ones linked to my blog post.  I will have to fix that but it will have to be another night, sigh!

Del Rio only has trash service once a week, so I was outside last night until pretty late raking and filling up trash bags.  This morning my arms hurt but I had to go tackle the weeds growing on the street side of the fence since it is highly unlikely the county will mow again until next spring.

It was hot outside and I had my big brim hat, sunglasses and plenty of cold water on hand to help me bear the elements.  I could see Walter in his stable with the darn sun bearing down upon him and his one little lowly mesquite tree for shade.

I took this picture last month.  The Mesquite tree offers little shade.
School is over and the owner’s son was most likely in his air conditioned home watching TV or playing videos and probably does not even care the poor horse had no shade and probably hot water…that is if he had water at all!  All the darn kid had to do was get off his fat rear end and let him come to our property.  It saddens me that some people have no consideration for their animals.

Was outside for around four hours, came in took a shower and ate.  Then Mom and I sat down to watch the news and we BOTH fell asleep until 7:00 p.m.   Well at least we got a good two-hour nap.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

Busy, Busy Week

I have been so busy after the Memorial Day weekend that I have not had a chance to sit down and write a post or for that matter even go online.  I am a Spurs fan and I am ashamed to admit I have not watched a single playoff game this season! Some fan, huh?

Got a new mechanic to fix the brakes in this case non-brakes on Mom’s mini van.  We did not exactly get off on the right foot but at least the van is drivable now though the jury is still out on whether or not I will use him again.

Remember my dollar investment on the Roma tomato plant?  Think I pretty much lost it, jajajaja…even bought some good soil and re-potted it…guess I just have a brown thumb, literally!

Last time I was in Houston, Home Depot had landscape timbers on sale for $1.97 but when I finally made it to the store the special was over.  I was so surprised to see them on sale for only .97 cents each but I need them in Houston not here.  It is times like this that I wish I owned a truck.

With all our comings and goings have not had a chance to call the Maytag guy to fix the washing machine.  Had to make a trip to the Laundromat and boy it was expensive!  Used three large machines and just that was $9.00 plus all the quarters it took to feed the dryers we pretty much spent close to $20.00 bucks.

Walter came around this weekend and he let me pet him for the first time.  I was weed eating when he came over, figured he might get spooked but the sound did not seem to bother him.

His owner came by later to get him and he spoke to my mother.  Wanted to know if the horse was a bother and my mother told him that I had told his son he was welcome here anytime and that since I did not know his name I decided to call him Walter.  Mom said he mumbled Walter? To which she reply “Yes, Walter”.  She also mentioned that I always had fresh cool water for him to drink, hoping he would get the message and do the same.  You go Mom!

We have a new visitor to Terlingua Dreams-Del Rio branch but he only comes to sleep under the cars.  I named him Socks.  I am trying to make friends with him but he wont let me pet him…need him to check out that bathroom/laundry room…but it is not going to be easy to lure him there, maybe a can of tuna?

By the way did you have a chance to look at the moon last night?  It was simply spectacular.  Made me think of all the lucky bloggers that live out in Terlingua and how fabulous it must have looked out that way.

Good night.  May you all have Terlingua Dreams.

The Sage is Blooming

There is nothing more beautiful here in the desert of West Texas than when the sage blooms.  It is a glorious spectacle.

I was awaken to the sound of thunder along with a show of lighting around 2:11 a.m. The first thought that came to mind was the memorial weekend crowd camping at Lake Amistad.

Around noon I convinced my mother to go driving around with me to the different campgrounds with the excuse that I wanted to take pictures of the sage.

I was so surprised that there was absolutely NOBODY at the Spur 277 North or at San Pedro Campground, and only one RV at the secluded campground on highway 90 West which exact name eludes me at the moment. The only campground that had people was my favorite Governors Landing.

Made me wonder if last night storms drove them to hotels or if they even came at all.  Yesterday I treated mom to a strawberry sundae at Dairy Queen and there were a lot of tourists so hopefully they are still around.

When we got home Walter was waiting for us!  Gave him some water, which he promptly drank.  After we finished our Long John Silver’s special meal of two for $10.00 which I must way was quite tasty we went outside to take some pictures.  Walter had never seen my Mom before so I think he got spooked and quickly retreated to his corral even though I kept on calling him back.

Hopefully he grazed on plenty of grass before we got home and had a full tummy.
Billy Bob had to include a picture of your tree, look how much it has grown
since your last visit!

May you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
